WE RISE, WHEN WE LIFT EACH OTHER UP
This album is about family, in the broadest sense of the word. The concept originated when Frederike, 16 years after the sudden death of her father, reflected upon the question, which of his characteristics were apparent in herself and therefore in her music. Soon after, she started collecting all memories of him; reading his letters, journals and interviewed everyone who knew him well. The songs that originated from this research reflect on times of grief, joy, heartache, unconditional love and unshakable optimism.
After a year of writing and months of rehearsing the music together, we are finally recording the songs in the last week of May at the Fattoria Musica Studios in Osnabrück, Germany (one of our favorite places on this planet).
The finished album will be physically released in Fall 2019. Instead of printing CDs, we’re working on a beautiful, unique, plastic-free art piece made out of recycled carton. Unfolded, it turns into a 3D object, representing the three parts that make up the album - How To Love The Empty Air, Hold Onto My Wings and We Rise - , including a unique download code and everything we love about good cover art. This limited physical edition will be produced and printed in an eco-friendly manner and hand-folded and signed by yours truly.

The song is about transformation. When my father passed, people tried to explain the loss of the loved one to the six-year-old me. Someone told me: “It’s as if here on Earth he was a caterpillar, and now he transformed into a butterfly.” And so, I thought of him as a butterfly for the years to follow.
Don’t fear the shadows, they just mean there’s a light shining somewhere.

This video was recorded on the night before Julian and I left to New York last June. It’s on the rooftop after we performed at the BoBiennale in Bochum.
The sun had set, most of the audience had gone home, and we started packing up, but the moon was so full and so magnificent that we decided to play this song before we left. On the video the actual size of the moon is hard to see, but really - it was magical!

Dit album gaat over familie, in de breedste zin van het woord. Het concept ontstond toen Frederike, 16 jaar na de plotselinge dood van haar vader, zichzelf de vraag stelde: “Wat zie ik van mijn vader in mij?”. Ze begon alle herinneringen aan hem te verzamelen; las zijn brieven, dagboeken en interviewde iedereen die hem goed had gekend. De stukken die voortkwamen uit dit onderzoek reflecteren op tijden van verdriet, vreugde, onvoorwaardelijke liefde en onomstotelijk optimisme.
Na een jaar componeren en maandenlang samen repeteren, nemen we eindelijk de stukken op in de laatste week van mei, in Fattoria Musica in Osnabrück.
“Nature's Songs zal onze eerste en enige CD zijn", beweerden we keer op keer na de release. Als alternatief hebben wij voor een plasticvrij, innovatief kunstwerk van gerecycled karton gekozen. Uitgevouwen verandert het in een 3D-object, dat de drie delen vertegenwoordigt, die het album uitmaken. (How To Love The Empty Air, Hold Onto My Wings en We Rise) Ieder album bevat een unieke downloadcode, de songteksten en alles wat wij belangrijk vinden aan goede cover art. Deze gelimiteerde, gesigneerde fysieke editie wordt geproduceerd op een milieuvriendelijke manier, en wordt met de hand gevouwen door ons!

Hi! Wir sind FRÉ, eine Deutsch-Niederländische Band, die sich ständig in den Grenzbereichen konventioneller musikalischer Stilwelten befindet. WE RISE, WHEN WE LIFT EACH OTHER UP
Unser nächstes Album handelt von Familie, im weitesten Sinne des Wortes. Das Konzept entstand, als unsere Sängerin Frederike, 16 Jahre nach dem plötzlichen Tod ihres Vaters, mit der Frage konfrontiert wurde, welche seiner Eigenschaften sich in ihr und damit auch in ihrer Musik bemerkbar machten. Bald darauf begann sie, alle Erinnerungen an ihn zusammenzutragen; sie las seine Briefe, Tagebücher und führte Interviews mit allen, die ihn gut kannten. In den Liedern, die aus dieser sehr persönlichen Suche hervorgehen, finden sich Geschichten über Trauer, Freude, Herzschmerz, bedingungslose Liebe und unerschütterlichen Optimismus.
Nach mehr als einem Jahr Komponieren und gemeinsamen Einstudieren, gehen wir in der letzten Maiwoche endlich ins Tonstudio, um das Album aufzunehmen. Die Produktion findet in den Osnabrücker Fattoria Musica Studios statt, einem unserer absoluten Lieblingsorte.
We Rise, When We Lift Each Other Up wird im Herbst 2019 veröffentlicht. Da wir keine CDs mehr produzieren wollen, arbeiten wir momentan an der Entwicklung eines einzigartigen, plastik-freien Kunstwerk aus recyceltem Papier. Auseinandergefaltet verwandelt es sich in ein 3D-Objekt, das die drei Teile des Albums - “How To Love The Empty Air”, “Hold Onto My Wings” und “We Rise” - widerspiegelt. Die innovative, limitierte physische Ausführung wird umweltfreundlich hergestellt und von der Band persönlich gefaltet und signiert. Sie enthält einen einzigartigen Download-Code, Liedtexte und alles, was wir an guten Album-Artworks lieben.
