Exodus

Exodus is een kunstproject dat het thema migratie onderzoekt en in mei 2016 tijdens de EU top in Amsterdam plaatsvindt. Om mensen welke normaal gesproken geen galeries bezoeken te bereiken wordt het project niet alleen in een expositieruimte maar ook op openbare plaatsen in de
stad uitgevoerd. Door middel van publieke performances, pop-up interventies en multimedia kunst exposities willen we de ervaring van het migreren verkennen, niet alleen in de urgente manifestatie van de vluchtelingencrisis, maar ook in bredere zin namelijk de metropoolsteden als noodzakelijke smeltkroezen ('melting pots') van de globaliserende arbeid, als een bevrijdende of beangstigende ervaring, als een diepe persoonlijke beweging of als een collectieve reis. Dit project maakt gebruikt van verschillende perspectieven en modules om dit complexe onderwerp te benaderen.

Waarom doen we dit project?

De idee dat het een moeilijk te verkennen vraagstuk is zou een understatement zijn. In het tijdperk van globalisering is de constante flow van mensen tussen verschillende landen namelijk alomtegenwoordig en gebeurt om uiteenlopende beweegredenen: studie, werk, politiek, gevaar of liefde. Wij zijn dan ook van mening dat het onderwerp migratie vanuit vele uitganswaarden benaderd moet worden vanwege haar verscheidenheid aan motieven, middelen en uitkomsten. Het is een complex vraagstuk maar voor ons is een ding is zeker: we moeten ons niet alleen herbezinnen op de betekenis om een migrant te zijn, maar ook in bredere zin wat de rol van de mens is in deze globaliserende wereld.

Wat willen wij bereiken?

Door middel van de samenwerking met art foundation Kulter willen wij vragen scheppen en besef creëren, maar ook vooral via onze artistieke werkzaamheden ons standpunt uiten. Een gedeelte van dit project zal in de Corridor Project Space (Wilhelmina Pakhuis) plaatsvinden. Daarnaast zal het project zich uitbreiden tot publieke ruimten doorheen de stad om de degens met een ander publiek kruisen. Voor ons is dit niet slechts een exhibitie, het is een dialoog! Wij denken dat iedereen verhalen heeft om te delen of iets kwijt wil. Wil willen daarom de ruimte creëren om standpunten te uitten en momenten creëren voor eventueel empathie en begrip. Migratie brengt onrust met zich mee maar draagt ook perspectieven die onze collectieve toekomst mogelijk re-definiëren.

Uw hulp is belangrijk!

De financiële bijdrage zullen wij voor het volgende gebruiken:

• Productie en transport kosten.
• Artiesten-vergoeding en materialen. Onze artiesten zijn zeer toegewijd en investeren veel tijd in dit event, inclusief repetitie uren, onderzoek en voorbereidingstijd. Deze professioneel opgeleide artiesten hebben minimaal 5 jaar ervaring in hun werkgebied en leveren hoogwaardig werk. Uw donatie zou naast het ondersteunen van hun werk ook helpen om dit artistiek platform te onderhouden en ons de ruimte te bieden samen te werken en te experimenteren om multidisciplinair experimenteel en innoverende kunst te blijven bieden aan een breder publiek.
• Documentatie. Het is belangrijk voor ons collectief om het materiaal van onze showcases te archiveren. Deze documentatie wordt gebruikt om digitaal ons werk te delen, maar is daarnaast ook een manier om te groeien: het analyseren en terugkoppelen van ons werk met publiek en collega’s voedt ons artistieke streven en biedt mogelijkheden om connecties aan te gaan met wat wij hier doen en andere projecten over de hele wereld.

Exodus

Exodus is an art project investigating the issue of migration and it is planned to take place in May 2016 when the EU Summit happens in Amsterdam. In order to engage people that might not go to the gallery, the project will be realized not only in an exhibition space, but also in public spaces across the city. Through public performances, pop-up
interventions and a multimedia art exhibition, we want to explore the experience of migration, not only in its urgent manifestation in the refugee crisis but in its broader form: from metropolitan cities as melting pots to the demands of global workforce, as a liberating or a terrifying experience, as deeply personal move or as collective journey. This project takes advantage of different perspectives and vantage points to address this complex subject.

Why do we want to make this project happen?

To say that this is a difficult issue to explore would be an understatement. In the age of globalisation, the constant flow of people moving between countries is happening everywhere and for all kinds of reasons: study, work, politics, danger and even love. We therefore share the opinion that for its wide variability in motives, media and outcome, the subject of migration asks for an approach from many entry points. It is a complex issue but for us one thing is for certain: not only do we need to reconsider the meaning of being a migrant, but also in a broader sense what the role of a human being in this globalising world is.

The goal

Through the collaboration of art foundation Kulter, we want to raise questions, create awareness, and overall, we want to express our stand with our artistic practice. Part of this project will happen in the Corridor Project Space (Wilhelmina Pakhuis). On top of that the project will be extended into public spaces across the city where we can engage with a different audience. For us this is not just an exhibition, it is a dialogue! We believe that everybody has something to say and stories to share. This is
why we aim to create space and opportunity for the expression of our opinion and open up moments of possible empathy and consideration.

Migration carries unrest but it is also full of possibilities that might re-defined our collective future.

• Artists’ fees & materials. Our artists and creatives love what they do and commit a lot of their time for our events, including hours of rehearsal and preparation time. They held themselves to a high standard, they have a professional background, educated in their field and have been working on their discipline for at least 5 years so. They strive to present quality work. Beside supporting the artists’ work your donation would help us to maintain an artistic platform and give us the space to collaborate experiment in order to continue offering multidisciplinary experimental and innovative art to a broader public.
• Documentation. Creating an archive of our showcases is important for our collective. It is not only the way we share what we do, but it is also the way we grow our practice: looking back at our work and getting feedback from our colleagues and the audience feeds our artistic pursuit and creates connections between what we do here and other projects from around the world.
