Het verhaal

‘De Kracht van Onze Handen’ is een documentaire project (50 min.) over het beroemde woon/werkpand Tetterode in Amsterdam-West, een voormalig kraakpand en een verborgen parel van de stad. Het is een organisch gegroeid gebouw met een eveneens organisch gegroeide gemeenschap, ontstaan vanuit de behoefte aan zelfbestuur. Anno 2023 staat Tetterode als een symbool voor de roerige jaren tachtig, waar de geest van deze tijd nog steeds rondwaart en kunstenaars, nachtdieren, creatieve en sociale ondernemers hun thuis vinden.

Onze motivatie

De vele handen in/van Tetterode vormen samen een grote verzameling van disciplines die elkaar uitdagen, aanvullen en stimuleren waardoor een rijke creatieve cultuur ontstaat die bijdraagt aan een leefbare en spannende stad op allerlei fronten. Tetterode is een plek waar het ambacht leeft en waar mensen nog vanuit rust, inspiratie en experiment kunnen ontwerpen en creëren.

Met deze film brengen wij een ode aan het ambacht en laten we het belang zien van dit soort plekken voor de leefbaarheid van onze steden door een inkijk te geven binnen de muren van Tetterode. Tegelijkertijd bestaat er het risico dat de gemeenschap weg moet en het pand omgebouwd wordt naar nieuw vastgoed. De documentaire stelt kritische vragen over hoe deze plek zich verder kan ontwikkelen en welke rol de nieuwe generatie daarin kan spelen.

Waarom hebben wij je hulp nodig

Na intensieve opnamen en drie jaar hard werken, is onze documentaire bijna af! Maar, 'bijna' is nog niet helemaal. Om onze film af te maken, hebben we meer handen in de postproductie nodig voor geluidsontwerp, kleurbewerking, grafische vormgeving en het componeren van muziek. Daarvoor hebben we extra middelen nodig.

Dankzij de genereuze steun van de eerste ronde van crowdfunders en verschillende fondsen hebben we al veel bereikt. Nu, voor de laatste loodjes, richten we ons opnieuw op onze gemeenschap. Wie zijn wij

Het project is geïnitieerd door een Tetterodiaan, Jana Chocholackova, die sinds 11 jaar in het pand werkt en haar motivatie is een film te maken om een brug te slaan tussen de stad en Tetterode. Haar initiatief is dan opgevolgd met de betrokkenheid van architect/filmmaker Onur Can Tepe, journalist Jelle Baars die samen de film regisseren en documentairemaker Magda Augusteijn die de film samen met Jana produceert.

The Story
De Kracht van Onze Handen (working title) is a documentary film project (50 minutes) about the famous live/work building Tetterode in Amsterdam-West, a former squat building and a hidden gem in the city. The building and its community have developed organically based on the principles of self-rule. Today, Tetterode stands as a symbol of the roaring 80s. Thanks to Tetterode and its artist, misfit, creative and social entrepreneur residents, the soul of this period still hovers in Amsterdam West.

Our motivation
The many hands within Tetterode collectively form a diverse array of disciplines that challenge, complement, and inspire one another. They give rise to a rich creative culture that contributes to vibrancy and excitement in its surroundings. In a city where artists are irreversibly priced out otherwise, Tetterode is a place where arts and crafts have space to breathe. By giving an insider’s look at Tetterode, we would like to pay tribute to the arts and crafts and show the importance of places like this for the livability of our cities. On the other hand, there is no guarantee that this building and community will still be here in the years to come. There is always a chance that the building could get turned into new real estate and the community is forced to leave this place. The documentary asks critical questions about how this should go further in the future and what role the new generation can play in shaping the future of Tetterode.

After three years of work, our documentary is almost ready! But just not completely finished yet. To end this film we need the help of other professionals in the post-production for sound design, color correction, graphic design, music composition and more. Therefore we need extra resources.

Who are we
The project is initiated by a Tetterodian,Jana Chocholackova, who works in the building for 11 years. Her motivation is to create a film that bridges the gap between the city and Tetterode. Her initiative was then followed by the involvement of architect/filmmaker Onur Can Tepe, journalist Jelle Baars directing the film and documentary maker Magda Augusteijn producing the film together with Jana.
