‘8’, een indrukwekkend nieuw werk van Michael Gordon.

Wij zijn Cello Octet Amsterdam en sinds 1989 staan wij voor nieuwe muziek, unieke samenwerkingen en verrijking van het cello-ensemblerepertoire.

In 2018 schreef de vermaarde componist Michael Gordon een stuk speciaal voor ons met de naam ‘8’. In dit werk van ongeveer een uur lang zitten we in een grote cirkelopstelling en worden er energieke motieven ‘doorgegeven’ van cellist naar cellist. Hierdoor krijgt het publiek zowel binnen als buiten de cirkel een soort ‘surroundervaring’. Je ziet en hoort de muziek letterlijk rondgaan. ‘8’ heeft een onverbiddelijke, aanstekelijke energie.

Het stuk ging in 2018 in première op de Cello Biennale en bij November Music.

Voor dit project hebben we jullie hulp nodig!

Uiteraard zijn we apetrots op dit stuk. Daarom willen we het graag volwaardig op CD vastleggen en zo beschikbaar maken voor een groter publiek.

Last year, the American composer Michael Gordon wrote a new piece especially for us. It’s called "8". For this piece, the musicians are positioned in a large circle as motifs are continuously passed from one cellist to the next. As a result, the audience, who are seated either inside or outside the circle, experience a surround-sound effect as waves of music travel around the circle. The piece is bursting with energy and shows the more funky side of the cello. We premiered "8" at the Cello Biennale and November Music in 2018. We are very proud of this piece and therefore want to record it. For this recording to be made, we need your help and are asking for donations. In return for your generosity we’ll be showing our gratitude by offering free tickets to our concerts, cello lessons, and for very generous donors, there is the possibility for a private concert! We are extremely motivated to record this incredible work. We hope you can contribute to this!
