Story
Alexia suffers from Bulimia. As she wanders through her life, the sign of her disease are clear but yet nobody notices it. As she introspects on her behaviour and never-ending hunger, her frustration and silence grow more and more intense.
Alexia is a young girl, she is doing well. But her diet is a mess. She eats and eats and eats and then she purges. And then she repeats and eats and eats and eats again.
Only able to yell at herself and/or eat, her surrounding seems to be blind and deaf to her condition. As her anger intensifies, her emotional shield is slowly cracking. Something is stuck in her throat and she can’t thrown it up.
Our idea is to make a fiction film where the focus is on eating disorder as such and most importantly on its emotional impact. The point is not to know the cause of the disease or the adequate treatment but rather a way to show its symptoms, consequences and the way it can shape one’s perception of their own life.
Eating disorders are a sensitive topic to those who experience them, hence, they tend not to talk about them and/or hide them. The film tries to counter this mutism, which is very often both a sign and a consequence of those disorder.
We would like to spread awareness on those disorders. People who do not suffer from them might then be able to identify preliminary symptoms within their surroundings and offer their help and support more easily. Likewise, we would like to encourage people suffering from said disorders to open up and seek for help. It is also a group that lack representation, lack which very often result to even more mutism about their condition for fear of judgement or misunderstanding.
Where are the funds going ?
In order to properly shoot the movie and give it the technical attention it requires -nay, it deserves !-weneed proper gear. The camerawork will require motion (dolly, rail, sliders...etc) andcalibrated frame (macro-lenses, travelling compensé, split-diopter...etc) and quite a bit of work on thelighting (most of it is shot in interior). We also need to fix transport, catering, props and the overall organisation. Everything is a lot of work to sort out. That is why we need your help You can support us by sharing this project and also with a donation to our crowdfunding page right here (so convenient right?). We have a list of cool rewards for all our supporters. Thank you so much for your time and support.
We will start shooting during the Summer 2019 and plan on finishing the edit end of the year so that the film is hot and ready for early 2020.
The film would be presented and hopefully selected for several national film festivals as well as international ones.
We are also looking to market the film to televisual media and entertainment network. We are aiming at cultural or art oriented channels like Franco-german channel Arte and BBC reel, belgian national channels RTBF (“la nuit du cours”) and VRT, private network such as BTV, Canal+ and online streamers Netflix, CuriosityStream...etc.

Cast and Crew
We are a team of passionate professionals, people all working on the project since day one; when it was just some random notes on a napkin...They grow up so fast!
We are a small team but we are ambitious and perfectionists so we want to go big ! The shoot of a making-of is very likely because, lets face it, we all like behind the scenes but most of all, we all like bloopers !
-My name is Marie Lormeau, I’m the writer and director of “les Yeux Plus Gros Que Le Ventre”. I’m from Perpignan in France, where I graduated in cinematography and english studies. After a detour in Scotland and a lot of other places around the globe, I settled in Maastricht three years ago and made it my home. This short movie is a story I have at heart to tell. The topic, the ambiance, the mood, the colours, the emotions have been part of me for such a long time. It’s the moment to get it out. I can only hope it will help people to talk and understand a bit better how it is. https://www.imdb.com/name/nm9469027/?ref_=nv_sr_1
-Douglas Robson, with such a focus (pun intended) on the visuals to express states of mind in this film, we needed the perfect Director of Photography. He already have an impressive career with many productions in his portfolio. Documentaries are his forte so we trust him to give this project realism and depth. His style and technique are impeccable and I’m very lucky to have him at our side for this production. He’s involved since the first day of this project and without his support and experience we’d be struggling.

-Kim Hotterbeekx is our Art Director and nothing can get past her. She has the capacity to make any set exactly how it’s supposed to be. Graduated from the Zuyd Hogeschool , Arts Institute, her creativity and vision needn’t be proven. Her ability to get every details right and to notice anything askew at a glance is nothing short of amazing. She’s also our bundle of joy and optimism and I’m really happy to work with her again. https://www.imdb.com/name/nm9460105/?ref_=nv_sr_1
-Francesco Cimino has a good ear. Nice skill to have when you are a sound designer. He always pays attention and care on a personal level but also, obviously, as as a professional. He can bring you in a story just by the atmospheric sounds and soundtrack. His educational background include the Maastricht university and Citylit London. Documentary, experimental, fiction… no genre can resist him. He’s part of Video Power in Maastricht and his help is invaluable.

-Emiel Chung is the head of our light department. To capture the perfect mood on camera, you need someone to set that mood first and he’s the perfect one for that. Beside his professionalism and reliability, it is his commitment to any project he’s working on that impress me the most. https://www.imdb.com/name/nm6560765/
-Harm Kleijnen, our graphic designer/Illustrator. Oniric is the word that comes in mind. What would you do if you’d want to adapt “Le Petit Prince” after seeing an exposition about Magritte? Simple, you’d call Harm for some advice. His style is a journey. In a simple illustration, he makes you want to contemplate and travel at the same time. https://www.artstation.com/harmkleijnen
-Terry Byrne, photographer before anything else, he specialize in events since he left Les Beaux Arts de Saint Luc. From his experience on covering international congresses and social gathering for the likes of IOF/ESCO or Google/Niantic (shameless names dropping), we count on him to resolve on the fly any issues that will occur during the production time and on set. https://www.dbrphotography.com
-Alexia Fleres is the lead role. I’m relieved she agreed to be because I wrote the role with her in mind, no one else would do, hence the name Alexia for the character. Her natural talent, her sensibility … Those eyes… Capable of drifting in dream state just to come back in focus in the flick of a moment, Alexia is the perfect actress for the role of Alexia and the role of Alexia is perfect for Alexia… if that makes sense. Anyhow, I can’t wait to see her in front of the camera and on the screen.
