It is Time

It is time for a book that brings everything together. After graduating from the Rietveld Academy in 1996, my photography continued to develop itself with a very individually recognizable style. And since my last monograph from 2008 my work has seen an enormous development. Much work has been shown over the last years in museums and galleries and now the time has come that I will bring everything together in a book. A book that not only focuses on the uniqueness of my work, but that also shows the process of thinking and observing intensively again and again.

The Female Body, Flowers and Trees

In my work the female body, its sensuality, sculptural feel, and skin are the main theme, brought to life through the use of natural light, which emphasizes the tactile aspects. Not only in photos, but also in videos in which the model’s hands hover over her skin. In recent years I have introduced flowers and trees into my work with the same kind of approach. I intend to engage the viewer in a tactile sensation.

Tactile Aspect and Interaction

The tactile aspect will also be visible in the book though the use of specific materials, such as various types of paper, transparency, structured surface, glazes and interaction between the works. The interaction is very important because through this book various themes will be more interwoven, the bodies, the flowers the hands and the curves of the trees, so they will be tuned to each other.

Structure of the Book

The basic structure consists of 5 chapters, showing flowers, trees, hands and nudes, including the Rembrandt Series; the nudes will be the main focus of my book. The Rembrandt Series was commissioned by the Rembrandt House Museum and is inspired by Rembrandt’s work.

The various chapters will be interlaced by sequences of film stills and photos, so in order to let this come to full fruition I work together with a brilliant designer, Hans Gremmen. The poetry of my work was conjured into words by the magnificent art historian, Marianne Berardi, who not only has succeeded to connect the various aspects of my work, but who has also caught the essence of my photography. The title of the book, Adornments, derives from a quote from Ian McEwan’s novel Atonement, which quote is included my book with kind permission of the author. The book will be published by Fw:Books.

A Labour of Love

For me this book is a Labour of Love. In this book I would like to share with you the way I think and observe in order to find the ultimate image, in which every detail is important: the magical moment, frozen in time.

From Dream to Reality

All these images will result in a rich hardcover book of over 250 pages (32,5 x 23,3 cm) that will convey my deepest thoughts and ideas in imagery, and which I would so much like to share with you. However, to produce this book is very expensive, so in order to reach my goal your donation will be vital.

Nieuw boek van Carla van de Puttelaar

Het is tijd

Het is tijd voor een boek dat alles samenbrengt. Nadat ik ben afgestudeerd aan de Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam heeft mijn fotografie een duidelijk herkenbare stijl gekregen. Sinds mijn laatste monografie heeft mijn werk een enorme ontwikkeling doorgemaakt. Veel ervan is de afgelopen jaren veelvuldig getoond in galeries en musea en nu is het moment gekomen dat ik het wil vastleggen in een boek. Een boek dat niet alleen rechtdoet aan de uniciteit van mijn werk, maar ook het proces laat zien. Het denkproces, maar vooral van het proces van constant intensief kijken.

Het vrouwelijk lichaam, bloemen en bomen

In mijn werk staan het vrouwelijk lichaam, de sensualiteit, de sculpturaliteit van de vorm en de huid centraal, tot bloei gebracht door middel van natuurlijk licht, waarbij het tactiele aspect sterk naar voren komt. Niet alleen in foto’s, maar ook door video’s waarbij het model zacht haar huid beroert met haar handen. Meer recent ben ik ook bloemen en bomen gaan fotograferen met een zelfde benadering. Ik wil de kijker de sensatie meegeven van het voelen, het tactiele.

Tactiliteit en interactie

Dat gaat ook in dit boek tot uiting komen door bijzonder materiaalgebruik, papierkeuze, doorzicht, opzicht, interactie tussen werken. Dat laatste is ook heel belangrijk want door dit boek gaan al die verschillende paden zich nog meer met elkaar verweven, de bloemen, de lichamen, de handen en een grillige tak van een boom.

De structuur van het boek

De basisstructuur van het boek bestaat uit 5 hoofstukken, waarin bloemen, bomen, handen en naakten worden getoond, inclusief de Rembrandt Serie, die ik in opdracht van Museum Het Rembrandthuis heb gemaakt, geïnspireerd op het werk van Rembrandt. De naakten vormen het centrale thema van mijn boek.
Deze verschillende hoofdstukken zullen zich met elkaar verweven en elkaar beïnvloeden, daarnaast komen er korte sequenties tussendoor van filmstills. Omdit volledig tot bloei te laten komen werk ik samen met de briljante vormgever Hans Gremmen. De poëzie van mijn werk wordt in woorden vastgelegd door de getalenteerde kunsthistorica Marianne Berardi, die niet alleen de verschillende aspecten van mijn werk met elkaar verbindt, maar ook de essentie van mijn fotografie weet te vangen. De titel van het boek, Adornments, komt uit een quote van Ian McEwan’s roman Atonement. Deze quote zal met toestemming van de auteur worden afgedrukt in mijn boek. Het boek zal worden gepubliceerd door Fw:Books.

In dit boek wil ik jullie meenemen in mijn gedachten en ideeën, inzicht geven hoe ik tot het uiteindelijke beeld kom en hoe mijn zoektocht verloopt, waarbij elk detail telt. Het magische moment, voor altijd vastgelegd.

Van droom naar realiteit

Al deze beelden samen zullen resulteren in een rijk hardcover boek van meer dan 250 pagina’s (32,5 x 23,3 cm) dat mijn dierbaarste verbeelding zal zijn van wat zich in mijn hoofd afspeelt en wat ik zo graag met jullie wil delen. Echter, het maken van zo’n boek is heel kostbaar, dus om deze droom te realiseren zijn jullie steun en donaties van essentieel belang.
