Leave Body Behind is een korte, experimentele dansfilm van het Nederlandse dans- en performanceplatform WhyNot en de Fins/Colombiaanse filmmakers Blank Blank. Samen met een aantal toonaangevende choreografen, professionele dansers én 17 kinderen hebben we afgelopen zomer hard gewerkt om deze bijzondere film te kunnen opnemen tijdens een 2-weekse residentie in De Tolhuistuin in Amsterdam.

Onze film gaat op 11 maart 2017 in première tijdens het Cinedans Festival in het EYE Filmmuseum in Amsterdam. Maar hij is nog niet af! We hebben jouw hulp dan ook hard nodig om dit bijzondere filmproject te kunnen voltooien!

Waar gaat de film over?

Vier choreografen - Amos Ben-Tal, Liat Waysbort, Marie Goeminne en Marjolein Vogels - maakten ieder een dansscène gebaseerd op verschillende manieren om het fysieke lichaam 'los te laten', zoals de dood, transcendente rituelen of het orgasme (le petit mort). Uiteindelijk komen deze vier scènes samen tot één verhaal; een mystieke zoektocht van de protagonist naar spirituele vrijheid, gevangen in beweging.

Leave Body Behind is een filmische en choreografische interpretatie van ‘het zijn zonder lichaam’ - het loskomen van het aardse en het loslaten van het fysieke - op de hypnotiserende electronica van de Finse componist Stiletti-Ana.

Waarom crowdfunding?

Om onze dansfilm in première te kunnen laten gaan in EYE Amsterdam hebben we jouw hulp nodig bij de laatste, belangrijke loodjes! Jouw bijdrage gaat naar de laatste fase van de editing in de studio, waaronder kleurcorrectie, het omzetten van de film in DCP formaat en geluidsontwerp, distributie van de film, en de graphics.

Wie we zijn:

Marjolein Vogels en Daisy Benz vormen samen WhyNot. Met hun team initiëren en produceren ze dans- en performanceprojecten en organiseren ze om de twee jaar het WhyNot festival in Amsterdam. Binnen een multidisciplinaire opzet nemen ze het lichaam en de dans als kunstvorm altijd als uitgangspunten. Door samenwerkingen met andere disciplines aan te gaan ontstaan vaak bijzondere projecten, zoals de app I-Perform in het Van Gogh museum en deze dansfilm.

Blank Blank is een vanuit Berlijn opererende filmstudio, die reeds vele experimentele filmprojecten en muziekvideo's op zijn naam heeft staan. Blank Blank bestaat uit de Colombiaanse cinematograaf Carlos Vasquez Finse filmmaker en ontwerper Petri Henriksson. Blank Blank creëert boeiend filmmateriaal zonder de makkelijke weg te kiezen; in een wereld waar technologische oplossingen eenvoudig voor handen zijn gaan zij tot het uiterste om 'iets extra's' te kunnen geven.

Leave Body Behind is a short, experimental dance film by Dutch dance and performance platform WhyNot and Finnish / Colombian film makers Blank Blank. Along with a number of leading choreographers, professional dancers and 17 children we worked very hard last summer to develop and shoot this unique film during a two-week residency at De Tolhuistuin in Amsterdam.

Our film will premiere on March 11 2017 at the Cinedans Festival in EYE Film Museum in Amsterdam. But it is not quite finished yet! We therefore need your help to complete this unique film project!

What is the movie about?

Four choreographers - Amos Ben-Tal, Liat Waysbort, Marie Goeminne and Marjolein Vogels - each made a dance scene based on different ways to ‘let go’ of the physical body, such as death, transcending rituals and the orgasm (le petit mort). Ultimately, these four scenes merge together into one story; a mystical quest of the protagonist to achieve spiritual freedom, captured in movement.

Leave Body Behind is a filmic and choreographic interpretation of 'being without a body’, accompanied by a hypnotic electronic music composition by Finnish composer Stiletti-Ana.

Why crowdfunding?

In order to make the premiere of our dance film at EYE Amsterdam possible, we need your help! Your contribution goes to the final stage of the editing in the studio, such as color correction, converting the film in DCP format and sounddesign, the distribution of the film, and the graphics.

Who we are:

WhyNot, formed by Marjolein Vogels and Daisy Benz, initiates and produces contemporary dance and performance projects, with the biennial WhyNot festival in Amsterdam. With a multidisciplinairy set up they always take the body, and dance as art form as the starting point for all projects. Through collaborations with partners from other disciplines they often develop special projects such as the interactive app I-Perform at the Van Gogh museum and this dance film.

Blank Blank Film is a Berlin-based production company, with a varied output of experimental film projects and music-videos under their belt, established and run by Colombian cinematographer Carlos Vasquez and Finnish filmmaker and designer Petri Henriksson. Blank Blank is driven by a desire to produce engaging material without relying upon any easy ways out, and going to extreme lengths to create the ’something extra’ often lacking in a world where excellent resources for making film is almost universally available.
