een echt boek
Graag wil ik voor het eerst een ècht boek gaan maken, een monografie. Dit jaar is het 25 jaar geleden dat ik mijn eerste tentoonstelling had en eind van dit jaar krijg ik een overzichtstentoonstelling in het Rijksmuseum Twenthe.
Een mooi moment om alle beelden, tekeningen, foto's, installaties en handschoenen eens te bundelen.

Rijksmuseum Twenthe
Heeeeeel fijn dat het RMT zich al verbonden heeft aan mijn boek met het (deels) aankopen van een beeldengroep!
Deze dialoog tussen de Dode zwaan van Jan Weenix (1719) en mijn M. & J., Vino en Valentino (2008) is al te zien vanaf augustus dit jaar en zal zeker gedurende de hele tentoonstelling (20 november-7 mei) op zaal blijven.

Van het Tijlfonds heb ik net bericht gekregen dat zij mij ook ondersteunen met een bijdrage, jippie!

DIY
Aan het werk is vast wel te zien dat ik een enorme control-freak ben. Tot en met de fotografie, de bekisting en instructies probeer ik mijn 'kids' zachtjes de wereld in te begeleiden... Ik kan ook niet anders dan zelf de hele samenstelling en vormgeving van dit boek doen. Ik heb al geoefend met een paar kleinere bookazines. :-)

een boek om doorheen te wandelen
Via voordekunst wil ik proberen het laatste stukje financiering te verwerven om het boek net die details te geven die het helemaal mijn boek gaan maken.

Mijn boek wil graag een magazine-achtige feel hebben, vanwege de link met de mode/tijdgeest in mijn werk, maar dan wel een hele dikke luxe variant die mooi openslaat en ook weer goed dichtvalt.

En, heel belangrijk, mijn boek wil vooral alle series hun eigen papiersoort geven, afgewisseld met tekstkaternen - ook op eigen papier.

Zoals het in een tentoonstelling ook fijn is als de bezoeker zich door de aankleding welkom voelt en elke zaal aangepast is aan het werk, zo hoop ik dat je straks ook door de hoofdstukken van mijn boek kan wandelen.

Het boek zal een ruime A4 worden, staand, 264 pagina's, full color, Otabind, oplage 750, Engelstalig, gedrukt bij ANDO in Den Haag en uitgegeven door Jap Sam Books. Het krijgt een voorwoord van Arnoud Odding, directeur van het Rijksmuseum Twenthe en tekstbijdragen van schrijver Marcel Möring, recensent Jaap Röell, curator Werner van den Belt, recensent Anne-Marie Poels, professor design Sarah Cheang en trend forecaster Lidewij Edelkoort.

voor jou
Er zijn een aantal opties om mee te helpen dit boek te realiseren, rechts in de kolom te zien. Met een beetje hulp ben ik al blij en stuur ik je een setje ansichtkaarten met portretten van beelden (zie boven).

Als je meer zou willen bijdragen kan je bijvoorbeeld voor de special edition van het boek kiezen. Dat wordt een exclusieve oplage van 50 stuks die ieder een handgemaakte huidkleurige leren omslag krijgen met o.a. een blinddruk, chirurgische hechtingen, een brandstempel en leeslint van echt haar. Allemaal uniek.

Ik hoop dat mijn crowd me met het laatste stukje funding helpt!

Voor mij zijn de details altijd extreem waardevol, sterker nog: ze maken vaak het beeld. Ik hoop dus dat je je kan voorstellen dat het boek pas echt mijn boek zal zijn als ik het helemaal tot in de details mag realiseren :-)

a real book
I'd really like to finally make a real book, a monograph. This year my first exhibition is 25 years ago and at the end of the year I'll get a retrospective show at Rijksmuseum Twenthe. So now would be a great moment to bundle all sculptures, drawings, photographs, installations and gloves.

Rijkmuseum Twenthe
I am so very very happy that the RMT committed itself to me and my book by buying (partly) a sculptural piece. The dialogue I created between the Dead Swan by Jan Weenix (1719) and my M. & J., Vino and Valentino (2008) is already on show and will stay put at least during my solo untill the end of May 2017.

DIY
I guess the work shows the control-freak I am; with every move from the making to the photography, the crates, and instructions I try to chaperon my kids into the world...so I don't really have any other choice than to compose and design the whole book myself. I already did a bit of training with some smaller bookazines :-)

a book for wandering
Here, at 'voordekunst', I'd like to try and gather the missing bit of funding so I'll be able to make the book with all the details that'll really make it my book.

My book would like to have a magazine-feel, because of my link with fashion and contemporary times, yet a very luxurious kind that fully opens and closes in an elegant way.

And, very importantly, my book wants to show every series of work on its own selection of paper, alternated by quires of texts - again on their own kind of paper.

A bit like feeling very welcome, when wandering through an exhibition that has all the rooms customised to accompany the work, I hope one will wander eventually through the chapters of my book.

The book will have the size of a stately A4, portrait format, 264 pages, full colour, Otabind, edition of 750, English, printed by ANDO, The Hague and published by Jap Sam Books. The preface will be written by Arnoud Odding, director of the Rijksmuseum Twenthe, and it wil contain essays by Dutch novel writer Marcel Möring, Dutch art critic Jaap Röell, Dutch curator/writer Werner van den Belt, Belgian art critic Anne-Marie Poels, English researcher in the history of design Sarah Cheang and international trend forecaster Lidewij Edelkoort.

To help realise this book there is a choice of options, in the column on the right side. I'll be very happy of course with a little bit of support and will then send you a set of postcards with portraits of sculptures (as above).

In case you'd like to donate a bit more, you could choose for the 'special edition' of the book. This will be an exclusive edition of 50 only, each with a handmade skin coloured leather cover that will have embossed printing, surgery stitches, a brand mark and a human hair book marker. Every one oddly unique :-)
