Formed in 2006, we have played together in more than twenty countries and would like to share with you the music that has been written for us in the last few years.
Some years ago we organized an international project called "Music for Peace", the aim of which was to travel to a post-conflict zone, bring music to people who had suffered trauma, perform and give master classes. Over the years, composers have written for VitaDuo, and as a result, most of the pieces chosen for this recording will be premieres.
Having met a lot of students from different places, we (VitaDuo) have special
attitude to an educational part of every project. With this recording we will produce a “study recording” of one of the most challenging
pieces, written for such type of ensemble. Soviet avant-garde composer
Edison Denisov wrote Sonata for saxophone and piano in 1970 and it is
still one of the most difficult pieces written for saxophone. It became
absolute “classics”, repertoire that students have to go through, learn, but
honestly, there are not so many pianists who are able to do it and help
saxophonists in studying it.
VitaDuo wants to offer a study recording of each part of the piece (saxophone and piano separately) as we strongly believe that it will help many musicians in a deep dive into this special music. There was a huge demand from students, pupils and professional musicians of having parts recorded separately for studies purposes. This will help a lot of young musicians to go through this music.
VitaDuo plans to make a recording until the end of April 2024 at the Steppenwolf
Studio (Slava Poprugin, sound engineer) and make a presentation in June 2024.
All the funds from the crowdfunding campaign will go to the expenses for CD recording, editing, mastering and mixing, renting and tuning the piano, renting the hall, printing CDs, postage, writing and designing a booklet, photo and video shooting of the concert , catering and artist fees. We already got support from the Wilhemina Janssen Foundation and will be able to cover part of the expenses. But it's not enough for the whole project.
We kindly ask you for your support and help to make this project happened.
Looking forward to see you at the concert presentation in June in Amsterdam.
Program of the Album:
Polina Nazaykinskaya's “Rondo of Our Times” was written for VitaDuo
during the pandemic in 2020 and it is one of the best examples of a new one
sound picture in music. Deep, profound, touching piece never leaves
anyone indifferent.
Alexei Kurbatov wrote Sonata for saxophone and piano in 2019. It was
written for VitaDuo and since then became very popular. Donemus
Publishing house has just published it together with other newly written
music. There is a big demand from the saxophone community to have one
audio example of this music and as VitaDuo has performed it for a few
years now, it is important to be documented.
Pavel Karmanov has dedicated “Love Letter” to VitaDuo and made a
special arrangement of his “Second snow on the Stadium” for
saxophone and piano (originally written for viola and piano).
Edison Denisov was one of the fewest avant-guard composers from the
Soviet Union. For years he was blacklisted and banned and his music was
not heard. In 1970 he wrote an iconic Sonata for saxophone and piano,
for which VitaDuo is known as the best interpreters in the world. It's an
extremely difficult, modern, challenging music, that has so many styles,
ideas, layers in it, that saxophone students understand the absolute need
or studying it. At the same time it is very hard to do alone. Even lessons once a week sometimes don't help and it might take months and months of nailing this piece. So, there was a decision to create a Bonus track for this album.
