Hallo, wij zijn het North Sea String Quartet (NSSQ), een van de weinige strijkkwartetten gespecialiseerd in jazz, pop en wereldmuziek en we staan op het punt om ons enerverende debuutalbum uit te brengen.

Sinds 2016 verspreiden we onze passie voor improvisatie, wat ons al langs vele mooie podia in heel Europa heeft gebracht. We zijn ook een kleine en enthousiaste productiemachine. Zo hebben we veel spannende samenwerkingen tot stand gebracht en 3 ep's geproduceerd. Voorbeelden hiervan zijn te beluisteren op onze Bandcamp pagina en onze recente video "Roller" geeft ook een goede indruk.

Nu willen we een van de belangrijkste stappen in onze carrière zetten: de release van ons debuutalbum, String Migration.

Het album

String Migration belichaamt de reis van het aloude 'strijkkwartet' naar het moderne tijdperk - een lange en uitdagende evolutie die we delen met groepen als Turtle Island Quartet (VS), het Atom String Quartet (PL) en voormalige Zapp4 (NL). Ons vermogen om het kwartet om te vormen tot een autonome "band" met een ritmesectie en onze vaardigheden in improvisatie en compositie markeren een belangrijke stap in deze evolutie. "Migratie" refereert ook aan onze voortdurende verschuiving tussen muzikale stijlen, beïnvloed door onze diverse achtergronden en eerdere samenwerkingen als kwartet. Gedreven door een diep verlangen naar nieuwe muzikale mogelijkheden begonnen we drie jaar geleden aan deze reis, met groovy ritmes, gedurfde improvisaties en een eigen creatieve identiteit die het strijkkwartet neerzetten op een manier zoals je het nog nooit gehoord hebt.

De release van ons eerste volledige originele debuutalbum is een mijlpaal in de ontwikkeling van het kwartet, want we brengen een complete plaat boordevol composities geschreven door alle kwartetleden. Het album wordt in december opgenomen en zal in mei 2024 uitkomen bij het label 7 Mountain Records. In diezelfde maand starten we een album release tour in Nederland, gevolgd door internationale concertdata in de herfst.

Hi! We’re the North Sea String Quartet (NSSQ), one of the fewest string quartets specialized in jazz, pop and world music and we are about to deliver our debut album.

Since 2016 we have been spreading our passion for improvisation which has brought us around many beautiful stages across Europe. We’re also a pretty neat production machine. We have created lots of exciting collaborations and produced 3 EPs. You can listen to our music in our Bandcamp page or get a short impression by watching our recent release "Roller".

Now, we want to make one of the most important steps in our career: the release of our debut album, String Migration.

The album

String Migration embodies the time-honored string quartet's journey into the modern era—a long and intricate evolution shared with groups like Turtle Island Quartet (US), the Atom String Quartet (PL), and former quartet Zapp4 (NL). Our capacity to transform the quartet into an autonomous "band" with a rhythm section and our proficiency in improvisation and composition mark a significant step in this evolution. This "Migration" signifies our continuous shift between musical styles, influenced by our diverse backgrounds and past collaborations as a quartet. Fueled by a deep desire for new musical possibilities, we embarked on this journey three years ago, showcasing groovy rhythms, daring improvisations and a distinct creative identity that introduces the string quartet in a way the public has yet to experience.

The release of our first full-length and entirely original debut album is a milestone in the quartet's development, as we're bringing you a complete record brimming with original compositions written by all quartet members. The album is going to be recorded in December and is scheduled to launch in May 2024 under 7 Mountain Records label. In the very same month we'll start an album release tour in the Netherlands, with international concert dates to follow in autumn.
