'The Dokwerk Saxophone Quartet are four young energetic high-flyers from the saxophone class at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. From four different corners of the world these four energetic saxophonists came to Amsterdam, where they named their quartet Dokwerk and indulge in all kinds of adventurous repertoire.'- Schiermonnikoog Festival (2023).
Hi there, nice to meet you! We are Lisa (DE), Jen-Hong (TWN), Ileana (IT) and Pedro (PT) ☺ Through combining our individual cultures and backgrounds, we find an endless richness and variety of musical possibilities and choices. At times light-hearted, other times energetic, we strive to establish a constant place for the classical saxophone in the music of today and tomorrow!
About INTERSECTIONS :
This summer we will record our debut album INTERSECTIONS portraying the common musical grounds we have found ever since our paths have first crossed.
For this album we have chosen for exclusively living composers as they voice the present moment we are all currently sharing. We are curious about – and moved by - how today sounds! In how far do these composers address universal human experiences and can we find ourselves back in their stories and sound worlds?

- David Biedenbender (US): you've been talking in your sleep
- Geert van Keulen (NL): Kwartet
- Ian Wilson (IRL): …so softly
- Ramin Amin Tafreshi (IRN): Negarehaye Rangin
How does it sound when all these cultures meet? What can emerge when they all work side by side and hand in hand? Where are their points of intersection?

Wherever we come from, when we play and listen to music we enter, share, meet and unite in the same powerful space that music opens. Will you join us there?

‘Het Dokwerk Saxophone Quartet: dat zijn vier jonge energieke hoogvliegers van de saxofoonklas aan het Conservatorium van Amsterdam. Vanuit alle hoeken van de wereld kwamen deze vier energieke saxofonisten naar Amsterdam, waar ze hun kwartet de naam Dokwerk gaven en zich uitleven met allerlei avontuurlijk repertoire.’ - Schiermonnikoog Festival (2023).
Hallo, leuk jullie te ontmoeten! Wij zijn Lisa (DE), Jen-Hong (TWN), Ileana (IT) en Pedro (PT) ☺ Door middel van combineren van ons individuele culturen en achtergronden vinden wij een eindeloos rijkheid en variëteit van muzikaal mogelijkheden en keuzes. Soms lichtvoetig, soms energiek streven we ernaar een constante plek voor het klassieke saxofoon te vestigen, in de muziek van vandaag en morgen!
Over INTERSECTIONS :
Deze zomer gaan wij ons debuutalbum INTERSECTIONS opnemen. Een muzikaal portret over wie wij zijn als kwartet op dit moment, waar we ons gemeenschappelijke stem en uitdruk in hebben gevonden sinds ons paden elkaar voor het eerst kruisten.
Voor dit album hebben we gekozen voor uitsluitend levende componisten omdat zij het huidige moment in klank verwoorden dat we allemaal beleven en delen. We zijn benieuwd naar - en ontroerd door – hoe het heden klinkt! In hoeverre spreken deze componisten universele menselijke ervaringen aan en kunnen we onszelf terugvinden in hun verhalen en klankwerelden?

Hoe zou het klinken als al deze culturen elkaar ontmoeten? Wat kan er ontstaan als ze allemaal naast elkaar en hand in hand werken? Waar liggen hun ‘intersections’?

Waar we ook vandaan komen, als we spelen en luisteren naar muziek ontmoeten we elkaar en komen samen in dezelfde krachtige ruimte die muziek opent. Zien wij u daar?
