Wie?

Berbel is een trio dat met stem, gitaren, synthesizers en elektronica het publiek wil meenemen in een wereld van introspectieve klankwerelden en intieme verhalen. Frederik Karcher, Helena Van Hoolst en Tim Courtyn brengen elk een andere smaak op tafel wat resulteert in een palet van dreampop, triphop en cowboy psychedelica.

Wat?

Je kon de muziek van Berbel eerder al beluisteren op o.a. sociale media en YouTube in de vorm van demo's en live sessies, maar nu voelen we dat het tijd is voor professionele opnames. Deze opnames willen we doordacht en met veel zorg uitvoeren zodat ze recht doen aan de esthetiek van Berbel en zowel muzikaal als beeldend kloppen. Zo zullen we 4 nummers bundelen op een eerste EP die de titel "From the Waste Down" zal dragen. Deze debuut EP zal vervolgens verschijnen in het najaar van 2022 (november) op streamingsites (o.a. Spotify) en in de vorm van fysieke dragers zoals CD's.

Wie werkt er aan mee?

Wij van de band brengen de EP uit in eigen beheer en zijn dan ook erg blij dat we voor "From the Waste Down" zullen samenwerken met techniekers/artiesten/sessiemuzikanten die we vertrouwen. De EP zal in juli 2022 worden opgenomen in de studio van de professionele sound engineer Thomas Valkiers: "Hightime Studio". We nodigen ook vakkundige sessiemuzikanten uit: Niels Meukens achter de drums en Toon Rumen op elektrische bas, om de sound te vervolmaken. Door per track een dag te voorzien, hebben we de mogelijkheid om goed voorbereid de studio te betreden en toch ruimte te hebben voor experiment, om diep op elk nummer in te gaan en alles tot in de puntjes uit te werken. Nadat Thomas de mix zal hebben gemaakt, zal hij de tracks sturen naar Gert Van Hoof bij Cochlea Mastering voor de mastering.

De visuele wereld die "From the Waste Down" zal bewonen, wordt gecreëerd door Frederic Pels, een beeldend kunstenaar met een creatieve en oprechtestijl. Hij zal niet alleen de beelden creëren waar de EP omheen zal worden gebouwd, hij zal ook de beperkte oplage van fysieke exemplaren van "From the Waste Down" met de hand maken. Zo wordt elke cd een *pièce unique*.

Waarom deze crowdfunding?

Voor de verwezenlijking van deze EP houden we rekening met de kosten van o.a. de studiotijd en -gebruik, de mix, de mastering, de uitbetaling van de sound engineer, de uitbetaling van de sessiemuzikanten, de promo en de merch. Om de eindjes aan elkaar te knopen zoeken we daarom financiële donaties tot 3000 EUR in ruil voor rewards aan onze donateurs. Deze tegenprestaties zijn unieke artistieke Berbel-items gaande van stickers tot een privéconcert, tot alvast de CD van onze EP (zie verder: de tegenprestaties). Met liefde vormgegeven en verwacht als levertijd in november 2022 (gelijktijdig met de release van de EP). De live tour om onze EP voor te stellen zal eveneens rond deze periode van start gaan van Antwerpen tot Gent.

Kortom, deze crowdfunding zou het voor ons muzikanten mogelijk maken om onze muziek te verspreiden d.m.v. professionele opnames via een eerste EP en deze EP vervolgens te verbinden aan live shows en tours. De eerst geplande live show met betrekking tot onze live tour is in Kavka (Antwerpen) in november 2022 (TBA). Want het uiteindelijk doel van iedere band is om live te spelen, spelen en nog eens spelen. We hebben niets liever dan een publiek te bereiken met onze muziek. We kiezen verder voor crowdfunding omdat dit systeem van *ruilhandel* impliceert dat we onze artistieke goods en muziek reeds kunnen brengen aan de donateurs en zo een goed contact en uitwisseling onderhouden. Tot slot creëren we bovendien meer tijd en mogelijkheden om te spelen en om onze esthetiek te blijven verfijnen. Hopelijk dus met jouw hulp!

Berbel is a threepiece using voice, guitars, synthesizers and other electronics to invite audiences into their world of introspective soundscapes and intimate storytelling. Helena Van Hoolst, Frederik Karcher and Tim Courtyn each bring a different flavour to the table, which results in a unique mix of dreampop, triphop and cowboy psychedelia.

In order to spread our music, we already posted several live sessions of our songs on our social media pages and YouTube, but now we feel it is time for professional recordings to post on streaming sites such as Spotify and for physical carriers such as CDs. We want to make these recordings thoughtfully and with great care. They have to do justice to the *Berbel aesthetic* both musically and visually and thus be cast in a first EP "From the Waste Down" of four songs, out in november 2022.

We from the band are therefore very happy that for our self-published debut EP "From the Waste Down" we will be working with technicians/artists/session musicians that we trust. Our EP will be recorded in July 2022 in the studio of seasoned professional sound engineer Thomas Valkiers "Hightime Studio". We also invite the great session musicians Niels Meukens on drums and Toon Rumen on electric bass. By spending a full day per track in the studio, we have the opportunity to be well prepared, yet have room for experimentation, going deep into each song and working it all out. After Thomas has created the mix, he sends the tracks to Gert Van Hoof at Cochlea Mastering to make the master.

The visual world that "From the Waste Down" will inhabit will be created by Frederic Pels. A visual artist with a wonderfully creative, sincere and captivating style and vision, he will not only create the imagery where the artwork will be built around, he will also hand make the limited run of physical copies of "From the Waste Down". Thus making every CD a *pièce unique*.

For the realization of this EP we take into account the costs of, among other things, the studio time and use, the mix, the mastering, the payment of the sound engineer, the payment of the session musicians, the promo and the merch. To make ends meet, we are therefore looking for financial donations of up to 3000 EUR in exchange for rewards to our donors. These rewards are unique artistic Berbel items, ranging from stickers to a private concert, to the CD of our EP (see below: the rewards). Designed with love and expected to be delivered in November 2022 (simultaneous with the release of the EP).
The live tour to present our EP will also start around this period from Antwerp to Ghent.

In short, this crowdfunding would make it possible for us musicians to spread our music through professional recordings bundled on an EP _and then connect this EP to live shows and tours_. Because there is nothing we like to do more than play play play. We also opt for crowdfunding because this *barter* system implies that we can already offer our artistic goods and music to an audience. And we like nothing better than to reach to our audience with our music and art. In this way we also create more time and opportunities to play and to continue to refine our aesthetics.
