What is the movie about?
Des petits rêves aux yeux ouverts is an experimental short film, the plot of which revolves around the main character Frida, a woman whose job it is to dream. Through her dreams, she is able to live through the most varied situations, in which the central elements are sisterhood and the transmission of experiences between women from different backgrounds and generations.
Frida
Frida (played by Néva Kéhouane) is the one who enables the connection with all the sisters that we have not yet met and those we will never meet. It is the woman who allows herself to see beyond the material and the “real” and before her eyes, she witnesses other women who first walk, then run, and finally fly. Which, in a way, creates the three main chapters of the story.
Carolina: "Naturally, the images that infuse the imagination of each of us are completely linked to our memories, fears, anxieties, phobias, and obsessions. In this film, it is no different. As a woman, Brazilian, queer, feminist, and one who grew up in a family made up of women from three different generations all with very strong personalities, there is nothing more natural than to realize that all the scenes that come to me in my mind are made up of women."

Irene: "In this film, Frida's dreams are not accompanied by a precise explanation, but by suggestions and symbolic representations, leaving the interpretation to the viewers. Therefore, in addition to the traditional verbal one, we seek to create other forms of dialogue with the public. And that's where my work as a choreographer comes in. After all, how do you translate unspoken words into movements? How to use gestures to reinforce a feeling, a bond, a moment of trust?"
Sisterhood
With a very heroic group of both professional and amateur dancers, we were able to create physical phrases that have as their main objective the creation of a bridge of communication with the viewer.
In this story, the construction of a true sisterhood involves the transmission and sharing of experiences. For our mothers to run, their mothers had to learn to walk. For us to fly, our mothers and grandmothers had to explain and show us how to run first. It is the women who came before us who are putting us on their shoulders.

Womxn supporting womxn
For Des petits rêves aux yeux ouverts we are working with a cast and crew consisting mostly of people who identify themselves as womxn. The unique perspective that this brings to the project makes it so relevant today. We need to hear the diverse voices of women more often and with this movie we want to make those voices heard.
So, for these dreams to come true, we need you!

Who are we?
Carolina Kzan (1979) is a Brazilian filmmaker. Currently, she works as a freelance filmmaker in Paris and is getting her Masters in Cinema at Université Paris 8. In her creations, she combines theoretical analysis and practical experimentations to merge different art forms (live action and animation cinema, found footage videos, sound design, dance, photography) to propose new approaches and to push the boundaries when it comes to questioning the classical cinematographic genres such as fiction, documentary and experimental and the (nonexistent) lines that separate them.
Irene van Zeeland (1986) is a dance teacher and choreographer from the Netherlands, currently living in Paris. After studying at Codarts (Rotterdam), AHK Theaterschool (Amsterdam) and the International Training Program of the Merce Cunningham Dance Company (New York City) she has been teaching and choreographing all around the world. From the Netherlands and France to India and the United States. She specializes in working with groups from different backgrounds, abilities, disciplines, and levels. For this movie, she will be responsible for choreographing and coaching the cast as well as the production.

Financing
Because this film is the graduation project for Université Paris 8, the team will be able to use the gear provided by the university. This makes the required budget for the film drastically smaller. Also, the crew will mainly consist of master’s students from different universities in Paris and the cast of the movie will take part on a voluntary basis. But we still need a budget for transporting the gear and the cast and crew, location, sets and props, costumes, makeup, etc.
We hope that you can help us fund this last part of the movie and make it a success!
