VERHAAL

Een introverte vlinderverzorger in de dierentuin leeft een teruggetrokken bestaan. Op een gegeven moment vindt hij één van zijn vlinders op de grond met een hap uit de vleugel. In een zoektocht naar de dader verliest hij zich in verdenkingen en breekt hij uit zijn cocon om voor zichzelf op te komen.

WIE, WAT, HOE?

Mijn naam is Jeroen Zeegers. In 2016 verhuisde ik naar België (Gent) om een langgekoesterde droom waar te maken: een opleiding tot filmmaker. Deze intensieve studie komt nu tot een eind met mijn afstudeerfilm Vlinderman.

Na meer dan twee jaar te werken aan het scenario, het zoeken van filmlocaties, verzamelen van een geweldige cast en crew en het opstarten van de hele productie, hebben we zeven dagen gefilmd in een dierentuin en scoutsgebouw in België en in een tropische vlindertuin in Nederland. Dit alles om de wereld te creëren van de fictieve dierentuin Dierendael, waar het verhaal van Vlinderman zich afspeelt.

REDEN VAN DE CROWDFUNDING

We hebben prachtige beelden gedraaid en het resultaat gaat erg tof zijn! Maar het maken van films - zelfs van korte films zoals deze - is ongelofelijk duur. Daarom ben ik nu deze crowdfunding gestart. Ik kreeg al hulp van veel mensen (van de gehele crew en allemaal andere lieve mensen in mijn omgeving) die mij vanuit passie voor het project wilden helpen, zonder er een vergoeding voor te krijgen.

Maar daarnaast zijn er grote kosten zoals de huur van een goede camera en ander filmmateriaal, belichting, decor, kostuums, vervoerskosten, catering, verzekeringen en nog zoveel meer… En ook voor een goede afwerking van de film en voor de verspreiding (denk aan de inzending voor filmfestivals) is nog geld nodig.

STORY

An introverted butterfly caretaker at the zoo lives a reserved existence. At one point, he finds one of his butterflies on the ground with a bite out of its wing. In a search for the person who did this, he loses himself in suspicion and breaks out of his cocoon to stand up for himself.

WHO, WHAT, HOW?

My name is Jeroen Zeegers. In 2016, I moved to Belgium (Ghent) to fulfill a long-cherished dream: studying to become a filmmaker. This intensive study is now coming to an end with my graduation film Butterfly Man.

After more than two years of working on the screenplay, finding filming locations, gathering an amazing cast and crew and starting the whole production, we spent seven days filming in a zoo and a scout building in Belgium and in a tropical butterfly garden in the Netherlands. All to create the world of the fictional zoo Dierendael, where the story of Butterfly Man is set.

REASON FOR CROWDFUNDING

We have been shooting beautiful footage and the result is going to be very cool! But making films - even short films like this one - is incredibly expensive. That's why I started this crowdfunding. I already got help from many people (from the whole crew and all other lovely people around me) who wanted to help me out of passion for the project, without getting any compensation for it.

But still there are big costs like renting a good camera and other film material, lighting, scenery, costumes, transportation costs, catering, insurance and so much more... And also for a good final touch of the film and for distribution (think of the submission for film festivals) money is still needed.
