Ik mag exposeren tijdens de Biënnale van Venetië.

Mijn naam is Paul Brouns. Ik ben fotograferend kunstenaar uit Almere. Het European Cultural Centre heeft mij uitgenodigd om met mijn fotografie deel te nemen aan de expositie Personal Structures. Deze maakt deel uit van de Kunstbiënnale van Venetië. Een hele eer, maar vooral ook een unieke kans om een heel groot publiek te bereiken. De deelnamekosten heb ik met eigen middelen betaald en mijn bijdrage staat al klaar als digitaal beeld. De laatste stappen - afdrukken en transport - zijn echter erg kostbaar. Daarom ben ik deze crowdfundingcampagne gestart. In ruil voor jouw donatie heb ik een mooi pakket met tegenprestaties gemaakt.

De expositie duurt een half jaar en men verwacht 600.000 bezoekers. Al eerder deden veel beroemde en bewonderde kunstenaars mee als Marina Abramovich, Carl André, François Morellet en Yoko Ono.

Palazzo Bembo
Speciaal voor deze tentoonstelling heb ik een nieuw digitaal werk gecreëerd, op basis van een recente serie foto's. De titel is Into the Rising Light en dit wil ik op groot formaat gaan afdrukken en presenteren in Palazzo Bembo, een prachtig historisch paleis in het hart van Venetië. Het is een iconische locatie aan het water, vlakbij de Rialto Brug.

Mooie tegenprestaties

Verwachtingen & vooruitzichten

De afgelopen jaren is mijn werk steeds neer onder de aandacht gekomen. Er is veel respons in de pers, ik won prijzen en mijn fotografie wordt in steeds meer landen herkend en verzameld.

Positieve boost
De expositie tijdens de Kunst Biënnale van Venetië zal een nieuwe mijlpaal zijn die mij veel bekendheid, nieuwe opdrachten en boeiende projecten zal opleveren. Dat dit tot stand komt dankzij jullie steun zal mij vervullen met een groot gevoel van dankbaarheid en mij extra stimuleren om jullie te blijven verrassen met steeds weer nieuw werk.

De tijd dringt voor de laatste stappen!

Mijn inschrijving en de plek op de expositie zijn inmiddels bevestigd. De opening volgt al op 21 april! Ik heb daarom nu jullie hulp nodig om de volgende laatste stappen te kunnen nemen:

• Productie van een hoogwaardige fotoprint op 2 x 2 meter, geproduceerd als 2-luik, gemonteerd achter plexiglas en voorzien van een dibond achterpaneel voor de stevigheid.
• Transport. Het werk wordt in twee delen vervoerd en ter plekke gemonteerd tot één geheel. De panelen worden zorgvuldig verpakt in houten kisten en ingebed in folie en randbeschermers.
• Reis- en verblijfskosten. Voor mijn supervisie op de installatie en om de feestelijke opening bij te wonen zal ik zelf naar Venetië reizen.

Meer over mijn werk en het project

De abstracte schoonheid van Architectuur speelt in mijn werk een grote rol. Ik fotografeer gebouwen en transformeer deze tot een parallelle werkelijkheid die sprankelt van ritme en kleur. Daarmee wil ik mensen inspireren om verder te zien dan onze tastbare wereld en op een dieper niveau kennis te maken met de schoonheid van alledaagse objecten en vormen.

Het project
Into the Rising Light is een boeiende fotografische caleidoscoop geworden, gebaseerd op mijn fotografie van een hedendaags hotelcomplex in Denemarken. Het toont een dichtbebouwde, dynamische plek, vol ritme, hoeken en reflecties. Daarmee verwijst het werk indirecte naar Venetië, de stad van het evenement zelf. Naar mijn idee heeft deze plaats een soortgelijke sfeer en dichtheid. Met straatjes vol verborgen hoeken en overal reflecties van licht en water.

Renaissance
Vanwege de historische context van de expositieruimte, verwijst het werk ook subtiel naar het verleden. De symmetrische compositie, in centraal perspectief, is een ruimtelijke weergave die in het Italië van de Renaissance is ontwikkeld. Door het kleurenpalet is mijn werk ook een eerbetoon aan Renaissance-schilders als Giotto en Girolamo Marchesi.

Overrompelende helderheid
Om het fotografische beeld (grootte 559 megapixels) kristalhelder weer te geven heb ik ervoor gekozen om het door een printspecialist op monumentaal formaat te laten afdrukken en achter glanzend plexiglas te monteren. Dit geeft een ongekende kleurintensiteit en laat alle details haarscherp doorkomen. Ook door het grote formaat word je onmiddellijk door het beeld gegrepen en de "diepte" in gezogen.

Will you help me to exhibit at the Venice Art Biennale?

My name is Paul Brouns. I am a photographing artist from the Netherlands. Last year the European Cultural Centre has invited me to present my photography at the exhibition Personal Structures. This is part of the Venice Art Biennale and therefore a unique opportunity to reach a very large audience! I paid the participation fee myself already and I also finished my art work as a digital file. However, the final steps - printing and transportation - are very expensive. Therefore I started this crowdfunding campaign. In exchange for your donation I made a nice package of rewards.

The exhibition lasts over 6 months and 600,000 visitors are expected. In previous editions several well-known and admired artists participated like Marina Abramovich, Carl André, François Morellet and Yoko Ono.

Palazzo Bembo
Especially for this exhibition I have created a new digital work using a series of photos, It is entitled Into the Rising Light and I want to present it, printed in large size inside of the Palazzo Bembo. This is a beautiful historic palace in the very heart of Venice. It is an iconic location near the water, not far from the famous Rialto Bridge.

Time is running out for the final steps!

I already confirmed a beautiful spot at the exhibition. The grand opening will follow on April 21 already! Therefore I need your help now to take these last few steps:

• Production of a high quality photographic print on 2 x 2 meters, produced in 2-panels. Each one is mounted behind plexiglass and provided with a dibond back panel for extra strength.
• Transportation. The work is transported in two parts and assembled on site into one whole. The panels will be carefully packed in wooden crates and embedded in foil with edge protectors.
• Travel and lodging. I will travel to Venice myself to supervise the installation and attend the grand opening.

My expectations

In recent years my work is doing increasingly well. There is a lot of response in the press, I won several awards and my photography is recognised and collected across the world.

A boost of recognition and gratitude
The exhibition during the Venice Art Biennale will be a milestone that will increase my international reach. As a result I expect to receive new assignments and other exciting art projects. That this will come about thanks to your support will fill me with a great sense of gratitude. It will also encourage me to continue to surprise you with new work

More about my work and the project

The abstract beauty of Architecture plays a major role in my photographic work. I capture buildings and transform them into a parallel reality that sparkles with rhythm and colour. Herewith I want to inspire people to see beyond our tangible world and to get acquainted on a deeper level with the beauty of everyday objects and shapes.

The project
Into the Rising Light has become a captivating photographic kaleidoscope, based on my images of a contemporary hotel complex in Denmark. It portrays a densely built, dynamic place, full of rhythm, angles and reflections. This is an associative reference to my idea of Venice. In my view this city has a similar hectic atmosphere, with streets full of hidden corners and the omnipresent reflections by light and water.

Renaissance
Due to the historical context of the exhibition space, the work also subtly refers to the past. The symmetrical composition, in central perspective, is a spatial representation developed in Renaissance Italy. The color palette also makes my work a tribute to Renaissance painters such as Giotto and Girolamo Marchesi.

Breathtaking clarity
In order to reproduce the photographic image (size 559 megapixels) as crystal clear as possible, I chose to have it printed in monumental format by a print specialist and mounted behind glossy Plexiglas. This gives a marvelous colour intensity and razor-sharp details. In addition its large format embraces you while the lines of depth drag you inside.
