Help jij ons; Sanne, Manon, Ben, Pablo en Rick mee om een inspirerende documentaire te maken?

Belén is een jonge vrouw uit Spanje die daar alles achtergelaten heeft om in IJsland te strijden voor een schone en beschermde zee. Wat motiveert iemand om voor dit leven te kiezen?

Wat gaan we doen?

Met onze gezamenlijke passie voor film, reizen we eind april 2022 af naar IJsland om daar opnames te maken voor deze documentaire. Wij willen een portretteerde documentaire van ongeveer 20 minuten maken over Belén García Ovide. Belén is een jonge vrouw die helemaal naar IJsland is afgereisd om haar droom voor schonere en gezondere oceanen te verwezenlijken. Als marine bioloog en oceaan liefhebber gebruikt ze haar kennis om mensen meer te leren over de problemen die onze oceanen in gevaar brengen. Natuurlijk is ze niet alleen, samen met haar team van Ocean Missions vervolgen ze hun weg om te beschermen waar ze van houden. In de documentaire komen we meer te weten over Belén haar ambities en werk. Ook leren we meer over de organisatie en haar activiteiten. Waarom is ze marine bioloog en wildlife guide geworden? Hoe zet ze zich dagelijks in voor de oceanen? Wat wil ze bereiken? Wat drijft haar om haar leven in Spanje op te geven om zich in IJsland in te zetten voor een schone en beschermde zee? Met deze documentaire hopen we mensen te inspireren en willen we meer aandacht vragen voor Belén en haar fantastische organisatie; Ocean Missions.

Crowdfunding en doel documentaire

Het bedrag dat met deze crowdfunding wordt opgehaald gaat naar de productie van deze documentaire. Dit budget bestaat uit onder andere reiskosten, verblijfskosten, huur van apparatuur en kosten van promotie. Alles wat overblijft, wordt direct gedoneerd aan Ocean Missions. Met dat geld kunnen ze onder andere onderzoek financieren om hun belangrijke werk te blijven doen. Door het maken van deze documentaire willen we dus aandacht vragen voor dit onderwerp en voor Ocean Missions. We willen de strijd die Ocean Missions voert in beeld brengen. Daarbij willen we mensen bewust maken van de problemen in de oceanen. We hopen hiermee hun naamsbekendheid te vergroten zodat ze op lange termijn hun werk kunnen blijven doen.

Wie is Belén en wat doet Ocean Missions?

Belén García Ovide heeft haar leven in Spanje achter zich gelaten om zich in IJsland in te zetten voor het waterleven. Ze richtte daar Ocean Missions op. Dit is een internationaal team dat zich samen hard maakt voor het verbeteren van de kwaliteit van de oceanen. Ocean Missions houdt zich nu bezig met de volgende dingen:

• Ze doen onderzoek naar microplastic en het waterleven rondom IJsland.
• Ze peilen de gezondheidsstatus van het waterleven.
• Ook doen ze onderzoek naar het effect van geluidsoverlast in zee.
• Ze organiseren expedities.
• Ze organiseren evenementen om de oevers schoon te houden.
• En tot slot maken ze zich hard om de Ocean te beschermen met de zo gehete ‘Hope spots’. Vandaag de dag is maar 2% van de oceaan beschermd. Het doel is om tegen 2030 op zijn minst 30% van de oceaan te beschermen.

Wie zijn wij?

Wij zijn Sanne, Pablo, Rick, Ben en Manon. Tweedejaars studenten aan de Dutch Filmers Academy in Amsterdam. Wij hebben allen een enorme passie voor de natuur en willen door middel van deze documentaire meer aandacht geven aan dit belangrijke onderwerp. We zijn een goed team, omdat ieder zijn of haar kwaliteiten kan gebruiken tijdens het maken van deze documentaire. Zo is Sanne onwijs creatief en heeft een sterke visie die ze als regisseur in gaat zetten. Pablo en Rick zijn uiterst visueel ingesteld en daarom nemen zij het camerawerk op zich. Ben heeft veel ervaring met geluid en neemt deze taak dus op zich. Daarbij brengt hij het verhaal bijeen in de montage. Om orde op zaken te stellen, maakt Manon zich sterk om de groep bij elkaar te houden met haar productionele kwaliteiten. Door onze krachten te bundelen zijn wij er van overtuigd dat wij een enorm mooie documentaire kunnen neerzetten. Help jij ons mee?

Belén is a young woman from Spain who left everything behind to fight for a cleaner and protected ocean in Iceland. What motivates someone to choose this life?

What will we do?

With our united passion for film, we will travel to Iceland at the end of April 2022. Here we will make a portrait documentary of about 20 minutes, to tell the story of Belén García Ovide. Belén is a young woman who traveled all the way to Iceland to pursue her dream of fighting for cleaner, healthier and protected oceans. As a marine biologist and ocean lover she uses her knowledge to educate people about the problems our oceans are facing today. Of course she isn’t alone, together with her team from Ocean Missions they continue their journey towards protecting what they hold dear. In the documentary we will learn more about Belén, her ambitions and her work. We also learn more about the organization and their activities. Why did Belén become a marine biologist and wildlife guide? What does she do for the oceans on a daily basis? What does she want to achieve? What drove her to leave her life in Spain behind and fully focus all her attention on Iceland and be completely committed to protecting the oceans? By telling the story of Belén, we hope to inspire many people and bring more attention to Belén and her incredible organization; Ocean Missions.

Crowdfunding campaign

The money we will raise with this crowdfunding will be used for the production of this documentary. The budget includes travel expenses, costs of staying, equipment rental and the costs of the promotion. All that is left will be directly donated to Ocean Missions. With this money they can finance their research and continue doing the important job that they do. By making this documentary we would like to raise awareness for Ocean Missions and inspire people into taking action. We want to visualize the journey Ocean Missions are embarking on, and hope more people get to know them so that they can pursue their mission in the long term.

Who is Belén and what does Ocean Missions do?

Belen left her life in Spain behind to commit herself to the oceans in Iceland. In Iceland she set up her foundation Ocean Missions. The organization consists of an international team that joined hands to fight for a better quality of our oceans. They are currently busy with the following things:

• They research microplastics and the ocean life around Iceland
• They research the health status of the ocean life
• They research noise pollution in the oceans
• They organize sailing expeditions
• They organize events to clean the beaches
• And they are fighting to create “Hope Spots”, protected areas in the ocean. Today only 2% of the oceans is protected, and the goal is to have at least 30% protected by 2030.

Who are we?

We are Sanne, Pablo, Rick, Ben and Manon. Second year students at the Dutch Filmers Academy in Amsterdam. We all have an enormous passion for nature and we would like to contribute to this important subject by making this documentary. We are a good team, because everyone has their own qualities that they can use during the creation of this documentary. Sanne, for example, is very creative and has a strong vision that she will use as director of this movie. Pablo and Rick are incredibly visually talented and they will take care of the camerawork. Ben has loads of experience in sound and sound design and will take responsibility for this part, in addition to taking care of the montage. To create order in all the chaos we have Manon, who has a ton of qualities regarding production and time management. By combining our forces we are convinced we can create an inspiring and beautiful documentary to support these incredible people in Iceland. Will you help us?
