About the film
IIL FAIT BEAU is a short film set in Amsterdam exploring the subject of loneliness, social isolation and mental health in these pandemic times. It’s a poetic, romantic and very timely story centered around the struggles of a young man longing to find connection in this new world of lockdowns, social distancing and hybrid working. In his quest for happiness and deeper human connection, Jean meets Olivia through the windows of a FEBO snack wall. Has he finally found what he’s been looking for all this time?
Why this film is important
Loneliness and social isolation have increased dramatically in our new era of lockdowns, social isolation and hybrid working. This is resulting in many unintended negative consequences, such as a dramatic increase in mental health issues,
IL FAIT BEAU highlights the struggles of a young man who is longing to connect with someone, break out of his isolation and find happiness.
What has this story to do with FEBO?
FEBO is a Dutch institution famous for their snack walls with rows of windows featuring freshly prepared goodies. Most party goers have ended up at one of the FEBO windows at one point in their lives to grab a late night (or early morning) snack. It is through one of these windows that Jean sees Olivia for the first time and begins his quest to connect and find happiness.
The FEBO snack windows thereby also represent the typical curtain-less Dutch windows. Likely influenced by their Calvinistic roots, Dutch people often leave their windows open for every one to look inside and to show that they have nothing to hide.
Why we need your help
We are very fortunate to have raised over 8,000 EUR for our short film project from the AFK, the Amsterdam Art Funds . The AFK was especially impressed by our artistic vision to compare the Amsterdam windows with the Dutch snack walls and find it an appealing and unique point of departure for a narrative short film. Furthermore they were fond of the theme of loneliness around our protagonist Jean, a foreigner in Amsterdam. The central subject of loneliness and social isolation is currently also an important thematic focus of the AFK. The screenplay convinced the AFK due to the visual strength and dramatic quality.
In order to make this film in the way it should be made and be able to pay a salary to our talented film crew and actors, we need to raise another 15,000 EUR.
What is the timeline?
Filming is set to start beginning of December. We expect post-production and editing to take 6 weeks and our film to be finalized by end of February 2022!

About the writer
Born and raised in Germany to Italian and Greek parents Leonardo was shaped to become an observer within the various cultural contexts he grew up in. He found a channel to express those perspectives that he was harbouring, which was cinema.
Leonardo's films are visually raw, sensory and yet poetic while anchored in realistic contexts. With his concepts that revolve around human identity he aims to find that secret ingredient that transcends a truth that can be hardly described.
His short film "Traffic" went to multiple festivals worldwide and allowed him to to enter the industry in Amsterdam, Netherlands where he currently resides. "In 2016 Leonardo won the pitch competition for his Italian feature project "Dogs and Lizards" at the T-Mobile New Horizon Film Festival in Wroclaw. Previously in 2015 the same project was printed and distributed in the Daazo magazine during the Cannes Film Festival in 2015. The feature film "The convert" is a project currently supported by East End Film GmbH. Since February 2020 the project is being funded by the MFG Baden-Württemberg, Germany.
