Publicatie Uitgeverij Chaos & MAMA

Uitgeverij Chaos brengt in samenwerking met MAMA een publicatie uit die bestaat uit een verzameling essays en verhalen over thema’s als (collectieve) zorg, tederheid en gemeenschap. De publicatie wordt uitgebracht ter aanvulling op de tentoonstelling On Collective Care & Togetherness die opent op 23 oktober en loopt tot 20 december 2020 in MAMA te Rotterdam, en die is samengesteld door Leana Boven. Uitgeverij Chaos en MAMA zetten deze crowdfunding op met als doelstelling voldoende budget in te zamelen om de druk- en productiekosten van de publicatie te dekken.

De essaybundel brengt fictie en non-fictie verhalen bij elkaar die ingaan op tederheid, hoop, zorg dragen voor elkaar en jezelf, samenzijn en plezier, maar biedt ook ruimte aan kritiek jegens systemen van onderdrukking. Wij hopen dat deze publicatie nieuwe perspectieven kan aandragen op hoe collectieve zorg eruit kan zien en willen met deze publicatie ruimte bieden aan vernieuwende ideeën rondom duurzame infrastructuren van zorg en solidariteit.

Met deze publicatie willen wij gemarginaliseerde stemmen naar de voorgrond brengen en (opkomende) schrijvers financieel ondersteunen voor hun werk. De selectie van deze schrijvers gebeurt op basis van een open call.

Wie maken de publicatie?

Uitgeverij Chaos publiceert deze publicatie in samenwerking met Leana Boven en MAMA.

Uitgeverij Chaos is een feministische uitgeverij, de enige van Nederland. Ons doel is om te publiceren vanuit een intersectionele feministische denkwijze. Simpel gezegd betekent dit: ruimte geven aan de verhalen van vrouwen, mensen uit de LHBTQI+ gemeenschap en mensen met een migratieachtergrond.

MAMA is een platform voor visuele cultuur en jong talent. MAMA is thuis is Rotterdam, landelijk actief en internationaal verbonden. Zij signaleert artistiek talent dat maatschappelijke kantelpunten aantoont en accelereert. Voor deze jongvolwassen stemmen schept MAMA een platform dat zich uit in tentoonstellingen, publicaties, podcasts, educatieve projecten, debatten, workshops en performances.

Waarom crowdfunding?

Deze crowdfunding geeft ons de mogelijkheid om niet alleen de druk- en productiekosten van de publicatie te dekken, maar ook de middelen om de schrijvers eerlijk te betalen voor hun werkzaamheden. Vanwege Covid-19 en (bijkomende) precaire woon-, werk- en leefomstandigheden van schrijvers vinden wij het belangrijk opkomende schrijvers te steunen en kansen te creëren. De publicaties zullen te koop zijn bij MAMA, de webshop van Uitgeverij Chaos, en enkele geselecteerde boekenwinkels.

Publication Publishing house Chaos & MAMA

Publishing House Chaos joins forces with MAMA for the publication of a collection of essays and short stories centered around the themes of (collective) care, tenderness and community. The publication will be released as part of the exhibition On Collective Care & Togetherness, which will run from 23 October to 20 December at MAMA in Rotterdam and has been curated by Leana Boven. Chaos and MAMA started this crowdfunding campaign in order to secure sufficient funds to cover the costs for printing and production regarding this publication.

For this collection of essays, we aim to compile stories about tenderness, hope, taking care of both one another and ourselves, togetherness and fun, but we would also like to include works containing critical analysis of current systems of suppression. We hope that this publication will lead to new perspectives as to how collective care can materialise and we would like for new ideas regarding sustainable infrastructures of care and solidarity to be included in it.

With this publication we would like to give voice to authors and opinions that would otherwise not be heard and we would like to financially support the works of these authors. We will select the authors for this publication via an open call audition.

Who are behind this publication?

Publishing house Chaos will publish this collection in collaboration with Leana Boven and MAMA. Chaos is a feminist publishing house, the only one of its kind in the Netherlands. Our goal is to publish works that broadly fit into the intersectional feminist framework. In other words, we give a voice to women, people from the LHBTQIA+ community and to people of colour.

MAMA is a platform for visual culture and young talent. MAMA is based in Rotterdam and is well connected nationally and internationally. MAMA aims to discover artistic talent actively involved in both the identification and acceleration of social change. MAMA creates a platform for these young adults where they can showcase their work via publications, podcasts and performances and where they can engage in educational projects, debates and workshops.

Why crowdfunding?

This crowdfunding campaign enables us to not only cover the costs for printing and production involved with this publication, but also to pay the authors an honest compensation for their work. Due to Covid-19, living and working conditions have become precarious for many authors. Considering this, we find it especially important to support talented young authors and to create opportunities for them. The publication will be available from MAMA in Rotterdam, the website of publishing house Chaos and a range of selected book stores.
