The Silent muse a project that overcomes national and cultural boundaries.

Kunstproject van 3 pentekeningen die in 1 jaar langs 36 willekeurig mensen reist in de landen Rusland, Japan en VS. Het is een tijdelijk cadeau om de ontvanger op een intieme manier met kunst in aanraking te laten komen.

This art project consists of 3 pen and ink drawings, travelling for 1 year to 36 persons in Japan, Russia and the U.S.A. It is a temporary gift and gives the 'beholders' in this intimate way, an opportunity to be with art.

Het idee
In deze tijd is het via het internet makkelijker dan ooit om met elkaar in contact te treden. Ondertussen zijn de begrenzingen nog steeds heel groot. Zijn we wel echt in contact met elkaar? Deze tegenstelling fascineert mij. Deze kunst reist naar personen, ongeacht hun taal of achtergrond.
De behoefte aan fysiek contact blijft. Ook contact met kunst. Door Instagram, Facebook wordt kunst deelbaar. In musea mag je foto’s maken, maar het daadwerkelijk contact met het werk overtuigt steeds weer. Ik zoek een eigen weg om kunst bij het publiek te brengen. Met Silent muse breng ik mijn werk terug naar het individu, met zo min mogelijk barrières.

The idea
In this time its easier than ever to get in touch with each other. Meanwhile, the boundaries are still very large. Are we really in touch with each other? This contrast fascinates me. This art travels to individuals regardless of their language or background.
The continued need for physical contact remains. Also contact with art. Through social media like Instagram and Facebook, art is divisible. In museums you can photo's of the artwork, but the actual contact with the work convinces every time again. I'm looking for a unique way to bring art to the public. With Silent muse I bring my artwork back to the individual, with minimal barriers.

Silent muse……

Art often finds her voice by the sound of coins.
Silent muse has nothing to say,
being there is enough.

Travelling through the world, searching for a stage
to be embraced wholeheartedly.
A personal leveling of time and borders.

For up to a month Silent muse resides
in the house of a temporary keeper.
Thereafter travelling to the house of the next host.

Nobody’s possession
not to with hold
not to buy, nor to sell

Waarom deze titel
Kijken naar kunst doe je het best in stilte, is mijn overtuiging. Als je ergens naar kijkt dan heb je een unieke individuele blik daarop. Die blik heeft alles te maken met wie je bent; waar je opgegroeid bent, je karakter en persoonlijkheid is, hoe je leeft. Je kijkt eigenlijk in de spiegel, wat je ervaart, zit in wezen in jezelf. Daarom heet het project:
Silent muse - in gaze of the beholder.

Why this title
Looking at art is best done in silence, this is my conviction. If you look at something, you have a unique individual viewpoint. This viewpoint has everything to do with who you are, were you grew up, how you live, your character and personality. When you look at something, you actually look in the mirror, what you experience is in essence inside yourself. Therefore, the project is called:
‘Silent muse - in gaze of the beholder’.

Reisbescheiden
De Stille muze is een ingelijste pen en inkttekening op papier, samen met een reis logboek, in een leren map.

Travel documents
The Silent muse is a framed pen and ink drawing on paper, together with a travel-log, packaged in a leather folder.

De ontvangers
Om de kosten van de reis te bepalen moest ik eerst de reisdoelen vinden.
Via velerlei contacten is zijn de ‘Beholders’, zo worden de ontvangers genoemd, in Rusland, Japan en de V.S. gevonden en kon het traject bepaald worden. Deze zoektocht, via veel verschillende kanalen, bleek een avontuurlijke op zich. Dit project kwam tot stand door een fantastische samenwerking van veel mensen met overweldigende en positieve reacties.

The recipients
To determine the cost of the trip I first had to find the destinations.
Through a variety of contacts the 'Beholders” , as the receivers are called, in Russia, Japan and the U.S.A. were found, and the travel could be determined. This search, through many different channels, was an adventurous journey in itself. In cooperation with many people this project could be established and the response was overwhelming and positive.
