We need your help to realise three specially commissioned events – by a music group, a performance artist and a theatre company – from Indonesia, Taiwan and France.
For curious people
Other Futures brings together makers and thinkers from all over the world who use speculative fiction to imagine and build other futures and invites them to share their visions with visitors from diverse walks of life. Most names are unknown in Amsterdam, some of them ring a bell,other participants are incredibly famous. Other Futures is the place to be for people who are curious, open to new experiences and encounters, positive about their own role in building other futures with everyone present.
One among many species
This edition’s focus is on the future of a multi-species society. Humans are just one of the species among many others – plants, animals, minerals, bots, aliens, ghosts: no one is excluded.
Special commissions
We want to commission several artists to make work especially for Other Futures:
The Indonesian experimental band Zoo with front man Rully Shabara, Bhakti Prasetyo, Ramberto Agozalie and Dimas Budi Satya. Zoo bases its albums on the advanced prehistoric Samasthamarta civilization. Their music is a trip into a surreal future.

The young performer, sound & video artist and DJ Betty Apple from Taiwan defies all description in terms of gender, subject & object, body & machine, styles & genres. Every performance is a raving, multi-perspective dissection of the ‘perfect female’. Join Apple in an exploration of the universe and the self through sound and music.

The French artist, choreographer and writer Rocio Berenguer is working on G5: the first global inter-species meeting. With G5, Berenguer and her troupe of an elderly woman, a child, a meteorite, several plants, one animal, one plant-man and tree robots open up new utopias. With your help, Other Futures can have the Dutch premiere of these earth-saving negotiations.

Who are we?
Other Futures is organised by a group of motivated and experienced freelancers in the international cultural world, and is supported by a truly diverse board and team.
Other Futures pre-history
The first edition, which drew 3000 visitors, was launched in February 2018. Felix Meritis in Amsterdam will host the second edition during Easter weekend in April 2020.
