Wij zijn de vierdejaars Fine Arts studenten van de Koninklijke Academie vanBeeldende Kunst in Den Haag (2019/20), en wij hebben jouw hulp nodig! 41 van ons gaan dit jaar afstuderen, en deel daarvan is dat we onze eigen pre-graduation tentoonstelling mogen creëren, genaamd Note to Self.

Het thema van onze tentoonstelling is cognitive dissonance , de mentale spanning die een persoon ervaart bij tegenstrijdige overtuigingen – zeker wanneer die botsen met haar eigenopvattingen. Wij merken de aanwezigheid van dit fenomeen meer dan ooit tevoren op in onze huidige maatschappij: de digitale verbinding van de wereld heeft niet geleid tot stabielere waarheden maar juist tot meer verwarring, in plaatsvan openheid lijkt er meer polarisatie en radicalisering op te treden. Deze verharde tweedeling lijkt ons niet representatief voor de complexiteit van de werkelijkheid, maar we zien het wel degelijk schrikbarend snel onze nieuwe realiteit worden. Note to Self benadert deze observatie in tentoonstellingsvorm door uiteenlopende, soms tegen elkaar aanbotsende, kunstenaars samen te brengen in de gedeelde ruimte. Door het publiek samen te brengen in een ruimte gemarkeerd door conflict, spanning, verwarring hopen we samen te reflecteren over wat grip en be-grip in ons huidige moment betekenen.

Wij creëren niet alleen de kunstwerken voor Note to Self, maar zijn ook verantwoordelijk voor de complete organisatie en opbouw ervan! Daar hebben we jouw hulp bij nodig. Help ons met het verwezenlijken van onze tentoonstelling! Jouw geld wordt besteed aan:

- De locatie (het gebouw aan het Helena van Doeverenplantsoen 3, met daarin de kunstenaarscollectieven ‘Billytown’ en ‘Ruimtevaart’)

- Het materiaal om de tentoonstelling op te bouwen

- Het theoretische programma van events rondom te tentoonstelling

Note To Self zal open zijn op vrijdag 13 December van 19:00 - 23:00, zaterdag 14 December van 14:00 - 22:00 en zondag 15 December van 14:00 - 20:00.

Hello!

We’re the Fine Arts fourth years of the Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague (2019/2020). 41 of us are graduating this year, and we’re in need of your help!We are organising a pre-graduation show in December: our very own, independent group show, titled Note to Self.

Our exhibition revolves around the idea of cognitive dissonance, a state of mental discomfort when a person holds two or more contradicting beliefs, felt especially when new evidence clashes with already-held values. It is our observation that in today ́s world, this feeling is more present than ever before - connectivity and information access has not lead to widespread truth, rather to confusion polarisation. We don’t consider this dichotomous way of thinking as representative of reality, yet we do see it becoming more prevalent. Note to Self addresses this tension through the form of an exhibition, showcasing contradicting sides and exposing our public to a space of conflict and confusion in order to reflect on what means to know anything at all.

We are not only creating the artwork for Note toSelf, but are responsible for organising, shaping and building it from scratch!For this, we need your help. Support us in crafting our exhibition! Your contribution will go to

‘Note to Self’ will be open on Friday December 13th from 19:00 - 23:00, Saturday December 14th from 14:00 to 22:00, Sunday December 15th from 14:00 to 20:00.

The VIP preview will take place on December 13th at 18:00.
