"Todos los fuegos el fuego"

The "Todos los fuegos el fuego” project was initiated by two Dutch saxophone quartets - Amstel Quartet & Keuris Quartet and composer Maxim Shalygin. Never before have two saxophone quartets collaborated on a piece of such difficulty and length (75 min.) with the usage of the saxophones from the soprano down to the bass saxophone. With this project, creators want to expand the possibilities of saxophone performance and contribute to the creation of an international saxophone repertoire.
After two years of hard work, from the beginning of the project to its premiere, we want to ask for your support in creating a high quality CD of this exceptional piece.

The "Todos los fuegos el fuego" is a unique musical work: a musical cycle that immerses the listener for one hour in a mystical act, sparking the imagination and opening up unknown emotional conditions. The piece was inspired by “Todos los fuegos el fuego”, arguably the most enigmatic book by the great Cortázar. All the short stories in this collection share an entrance into a parallel, magic reality, sometimes near to ours, sometimes strikingly different from it. Suite’s overall structure consists of eight parts, performed by eight saxophone players — as many as there are stories in the book. The saxophone is chosen for a reason, since, for all his knowledge and passion for music, jazz claimed the most of Cortázar’s attention. Jazz, and accordingly the sound of the saxophone, was his muse and a constant presence in many of his most well-known fiction.

De "Todos los fuegos el fuego” project is een initiatief van twee Nederlandse saxofoonkwartetten - Amstel Quartet & Keuris Quartet en componist Maxim Shalygin.
Het is een compositie van 75 minuten voor twee saxofoonkwartetten en het saxofoonrepertoire kent tot dusver geen voorbeelden voor zo’n brede saxofoonzetting, van laag tot hoog. Met dit project willen de makers de mogelijkheden van de saxofoon uitbreiden en bijdragen leveren aan de creatie van het internationaal saxofoonrepertoire.
"Todos los fuegos el fuego" is een uniek muzikaal kunstwerk: een muzikale cyclus die de luisteraar meer dan een uur lang onderdompelt in een mystieke dramaturgische handeling en zo de verbeelding opzweept en onbekende emotionele ruimtes opent.
De suite Todos los fuegos el fuego is gebaseerd op de gelijknamige verhalenbundel van de grote Argentijnse schrijver Julio Cortázar. De saxofoon is niet zomaar gekozen: Cortázar had een grote passie voor muziek, maar zijn hart ging uit naar jazz. Jazz, en daarmee de klank van de saxofoon, was als zijn muze altijd aanwezig in veel van zijn bekendste fictiewerken. Het instrument speelt bovendien een rol in talloze mystieke momenten in de muziek, literatuur en, last but not least, de film. En net als Cortázars meest raadselachtige boek bestaat de compositie uit acht delen. Acht is het aantal lettergrepen in de titel, die overigens op zich al klinkt als een saxofoonlick, en dus ook het aantal musici dat het werk uitvoert.
Na twee jaar hard werken, sinds het begin van het project en zijn première, willen we om uw steun vragen bij het maken van een CD van hoge kwaliteit van dit uitzonderlijke stuk.

De productie van een CD is een mijlpaal in de creatieve carrière van elk ensemble en iedere componist. We zijn ervan overtuigd dat dit een indrukwekkende opname wordt voor het publiek en inspirerend voor de saxofonisten over de hele wereld.
Uw financiële steun zal worden gebruikt voor de huur van de opnameruimte, het werk van de muzikanten en de werkzaamheden van het opnamebedrijf.
