In samenwerking met schrijver Milo Cremer Eindhoven creëerde Nik Heemskerk de voorbije twee jaar een rijkelijk geïllustreerd verhaal over de geschiedenis van het roken.

Nik verzamelde de leukste bizarre feiten en voorzag die van even bevreemdende illustraties, collages, stripjes. Dit alles is mooi verweven doorheen het stripverhaal over Oom Rob en zijn neefje Nik. Nik zegt dat roken slecht is voor de gezondheid, oom Rob beweert dat dat nonsens is: roken is cool en brengt alleen maar goeie dingen met zich mee! En oom Rob kan het weten, hij schreef er immers een boek over, Going Up in Smoke, Uncle Rob’s historically accurate chronology of smoking, dat hij graag wil delen met de wereld.

Jouw hulp
De teksten en tekeningen staan bijna op punt. Maar om het drukken (en prepress) van het boek mogelijk te maken, hebben we jouw financiële steun nodig! In ruil voor je hulp ontvang je natuurlijk iets terug. Het boek zonder extra's? Een gesigneerd album? Heb je er graag nog een exclusieve, genummerde en gesigneerde zeefdruk bovenop? The Project
Two years ago, illustrator Nik Heemskerk wondered; why do we smoke? Two years on, after months of research and an illustration degree, Nik still hasn’t a clue… Nevertheless, he made a graphic novel about it; Going Up in Smoke: Uncle Rob’s Historically Accurate Chronology of Smoking.

In collaboration with writer Milo Cremer Eindhoven, Nik has collected the very best absurd facts and paired them with equally strange illustrations. All the while, the whole is neatly strung together with a story of an Uncle trying to convince his nephew smoking is hot stuff. Yes, really…

Your Support
As we speak, Nik and Milo are putting the last touches to the book. When they wrap up a craftsman will take care of the prepress and then, with the book done and dusted, publisher Bries intends to HIT THE PRINTING PRESS in September! Annoyingly, hitting the printing press costs money, and this is where you come in! Back our project financially and we’ll be able to publish the book and unleash at least 500 copies onto the world. In return, you can expect various fancy schmancy rewards, bound to make your neighbours jealous.
