Dit jaar is Hoorn stad van de Gouden Eeuw. Hoe leuk zou het zijn als je een stap terug in die tijd kunt zetten? Met Dirk & Dirkje, onze bijzondere Gouden Eeuw-kostuums, kan dat heel makkelijk. Zonder omkleden. Je gaat gewoon achter Dirk (het herenkostuum) of Dirkje (het dameskostuum) staan. Zo lijkt het of je het kostuum aan hebt. Dan zet je jezelf of een ander op de foto. Zo simpel is het!
We willen dat zoveel mogelijk mensen tijdens dit Gouden Eeuw jaar nog met Dirk & Dirkje op de foto kunnen. Daarom moeten we heel snel aan de slag om ze te maken. Zo kunnen ze deze zomer nog in Hoorn komen te staan. En jij kunt hierbij helpen!
Zo moeten Dirk & Dirkje gaan worden
De Dirk & Dirkje-kostuums worden groots, uniek en echte eyecatchers. Ze worden 100% herkenbaar als Gouden Eeuw-kledij, maar met een knipoog naar nu. Als extra uitdagende factor moeten ze gemaakt worden van weersbestendige materialen, omdat ze bedoeld zijn voor gebruik in de open lucht. En natuurlijk moeten ze rusten op een stevige en stabiele constructie.
Dirk & Dirkje komen te staan voor het Westfries Museum in Hoorn. Ze zijn, tijdens de openingstijden van het museum, gratis toegankelijk voor iedereen. En soms zullen Dirk & Dirkje een uitstapje maken naar een andere fotogenieke Hoornse Gouden Eeuw-locatie. Zo worden je Gouden Eeuw-selfies nóg mooier!
Wat doen we met jouw donatie?
Voor een deel van de kosten hebben we al subsidie. Maar met jouw donatie kun jij ons helpen onze kostuums compleet te maken. Want we hebben nog niet genoeg. Zo hebben we weersbestendige stoffen nodig. Maar ook speciale textielverven, voor de decoraties die horen bij Gouden Eeuw-stoffen. En verschillende ornamenten, zoals strikken, broches, goudborduursels.
Daarnaast is het natuurlijk belangrijk dat het publiek de kostuums weet te vinden. Dat betekent dat we ook geld nodig hebben voor de broodnodige PR, zoals affiches, advertenties en lokale A0-billboards.
Over ons
Sigrid: "Ik ben copywriter van beroep en woon in Hoorn, dat dit jaar Stad van de Gouden Eeuw is. Ik ben initiatiefneemster van de Dirk & Dirkje-kostuums. Hiervoor regel ik bijna alles, van vergunningen tot logo's en PR en noem maar op. Alleen kostuums maken, dat kan ik niet. Daarom had ik iemand nodig die deze kostuums precies zo groots en opvallend tot leven kon brengen als ik in mijn hoofd had. Ik ben onzettend blij dat dat gelukt is. Want Ella is al net zo enthousiast over Dirk & Dirkje als ik!"
Ella: "Ik ben theatervormgever en maak daarnaast costume art. Daarmee exposeer ik regelmatig in musea en op andere leuke museale plekken. In mijn werken houd ik ervan om beeldbepalende vormen te benadrukken, uitvergroten en overdrijven. Dat mag best met 'n flinke knipoog. Mijn absolute voorliefde zit hem in het vertalen van historische kostuums naar het nu. Ik word aangetrokken door niet-textiele materialen en werk graag met plastics of metaalgaas. Voor de Dirk & Dirkje-kostuums laat ik me inspireren door schilderijen uit de 17e eeuw. Maar ze worden zéker geen reproducties!"

Will you help us create Dirk & Dirkje?
In 2019, Hoorn is City of the Golden Age. Wouldn’t it be awesome to go back in time to experience this century? Well, you can! Easily! Enter Dirk & Dirkje, our unique Golden Age costumes. You don’t even need to change! Just step behind Dirk (the gentleman’s costume) or Dirkje (the lady’s costume). That way, it’ll look like you’re actually wearing it. And then you can take your own or someone else’s picture. It’s as simple as that!
We’d like for as many people as possible to be able to have their picture taken with Dirk & Dirkje in this Year of the Golden Age. This means we’ve got to get to work on them as soon as we possibly can. We aim to have them up in Hoorn this summer. You can help us achieve this goal!
What will your donation be used for?
We’ve received enough funding to be able to start the project. But your donation is essential in helping us perfect our costumes, because we’re not there yet. We need weatherproof materials, for one thing. We also have to buy special fabric paints for the specific decorative elements that go with Golden Age clothing. And of course: lots of accessories, like bows, brooches and golden embroidery. Apart from all this, everyone needs to be able to find the costumes. This means PR is crucial. We need money for things like posters, advertisements and A0-billboards all over Hoorn.
About us
Sigrid: "I’m a professional copywriter living in Hoorn, which is 2019’s City of the Golden Age. I took the initiative to create the Dirk & Dirkje-costumes. Almost everything about this project is done by me: permits, logo’s, PR and so on and so forth. The one thing I’m not capable of doing, though, is making costumes. That’s why I needed someone to create the costumes in exactly the grand and striking way as I imagined them. I’m thrilled that I succeeded in finding just the right person. Ella is as excited about Dirk & Dirkje as I am!"
Ella: "I’m a designer for theatre and I make costume art, which I show in museums and other cool exhibition facilities. I love working with my tongue firmly in my cheek, emphasising, enlarging and exaggerating defining features. Transforming historical costumes to modern times is what I love best. I’m drawn to materials that aren’t textiles; working with plastics or metal mesh gives me great pleasure. My inspiration for the Dirk & Dirkje-costumes comes from 17th century paintings. But this definitely doesn’t mean that I’ll make copies!"
