Unexpected Smells

Een onderdompelende ervaring voor al je zintuigen

10-12 mei presenteert de ArtScience Interfaculty klas van 2019; Unexpected Smells - een onderdompelende, driedaagse tentoonstelling die al je zintuigen betrekt.
Bij ArtScience delen we een passie om nieuwe technologieën in te zetten als middel om de verbeelding te prikkelen en te experimenteren. Het is een faculteit aan de KABK die onderzoek, gedreven door nieuwsgierigheid, koestert en inzet als artistiek proces. Onze collectieve tentoonstelling zal bestaan uit interdisciplinaire werken die verschillende media gebruiken als:

• geur
• geluid
• licht
• beweging
• installaties
• performances
• verhalen

We zijn 17 individuen uit 15 landen met verschillende achtergronden en gebieden van expertise. Samen gaan we een experimentele aanpak aan om op een artistieke en experimentele manier een tentoonstelling te bouwen.

Onze visie

Elk jaar organiseren de afstuderende studenten van de ArtScience Interfaculty een ‘preview show’ waar ze een kans krijgen om hun werk te tonen aan een breder publiek voor ze afstuderen. Deze preview beaamt een ambitieus evenement; een drie daagse tentoonstelling op bijzondere locatie met installaties, performances en tours toegespitst op bepaalde zintuigen. Hiernaast zal er een programma zijn met workshops en lezingen van ArtScience alumni en professionals uit het veld.

Met uw financiële steun draagt u het volgende bij aan het verwezenlijken van Unexpected Smells;

• Het programma van lezingen en workshops

Missie

Het is onze bedoeling om te laten zien dat de ArtScience Interfaculty een levendig netwerk is waar nieuwe ontwikkelingen in kunstzinnige expressie een podium krijgen. We nodigen het publiek uit om actief betrokken te raken, mee te denken en kritiek te uiten op deze nieuwe ontwikkelingen en de mogelijke sociale waarde. Ons streven is dat deze tentoonstelling als katalysator kan dienen voor reflectie. Dit is niet simpelweg nog een preview show, het is een zintuigelijke reis die gedreven is door het inzicht dat we allemaal mede-maker zijn van de realiteit waar we in leven.

Financiering

Voor Unexpected Smells zoeken we steun van ons nationaal en internationaal netwerk. Op het moment genieten we steun van onze universiteiten, de Koninklijke Academie van de Beeldende Kunsten, Den Haag en het Koninklijke Conservatorium, Den Haag. We hebben met een aantal evenementen al een kleine bijdrage weten te werven maar we hopen met de crowdfund actie bij voordekunst Unexpected Smells te kunnen bekostigen. Daarom vragen wij uw hulp om ons doel van 5000 euro te behalen en zo onze visie te helpen realiseren.
Unexpected Smells heeft geen winst oogmerk en zal gratis te bezoeken zijn.

Samenwerking

Voor het realiseren van Unexpexted Smells zijn we in samenwerking met De Electriciteitsfabriek, Bartimeaus, COULD/Danslab en Attic Lab.

Het afgelopen jaar hebben de studenten van de ArtScience Interfaculty samengewerkt met onder andere iii, Bioart Society, Waag, TU Delft, DCR, Nest, Baltan Laboratories, Mediamatic, Trixie, Sonic Acts, Spektrum (Berlijn), Hoogtij en Into the Great Wide Open.

Unexpected Smells

An immersive experience that involves all the senses

On May 10-12th 2019, the graduating students of the ArtScience Interfaculty will present: 'Unexpected Smells' - a three day fully immersive art exhibition involving all the senses.
In ArtScience we share an interest in using modern technologies as a tool for fueling imaginative and experimental processes. A faculty of the KABK that fosters curiosity driven research as an approach to the making of art. (visit the ArtScience Interfaculty here )
Our collective show will consist of interdisciplinary works exploring different mediums such as:

• performances
• motion
• installations
• odor
• sound
• light
• storytelling

We are 17 individuals from 15 different countries and areas of expertise, coming together to initiate an experimental approach to artistic presentation.

The Vision

Each year, the students of the ArtScience Interfaculty host a preview show where they have a chance to showcase their final artworks to a public audience before graduating. This preview aims to be a more ambitious event: we propose a three day exhibition with installations, performances and sensorial guided tours alongside a program or workshops and lectures from ArtScience graduates and professionals in the field.

How will your donations help us?

You will contribute the following to the production of 'Unexpected Smells':

• Rental of the Electricity Factory (a wonderful location in The Hague; visit their website here )
• Rental of necessary equipment for the show
• Program of speakers

Mission

It is our intention to present the ArtScience Interfaculty as a bustling hive of new developments in artistic spaces. We invite the audience to become actively engaged , to be critical, to give feedback, to reflect with us on the social value of art. We invite human beings to experience a process-based exhibition as a catalyst for reflection. This is not just another preview show, it is a sensorial journey driven by the understanding that we are all co-producers or the reality we inhabit.

Financing

For this Preview we are seeking support from our national and international network. We are currently sponsored by our universities; The Royal Academy of Art, The Hague and The Royal Conservatoire. ((add? As well as Prince Bernhard Culture Fund and Fund 1818.) As well as having generated some income from fundraising events, we feel that we can generate the most income to cover our costs by crowdfunding, so we ask you to help contribute to reach our target of 5000 euros and help us complete our vision.
The event is a non-profit, co-funded and co-supported program that will be accessible free-of-charge to an (inter) national audience.
