Help het Noord-Hollands Archief de prachtige fantasiepers te plaatsen in de nieuwe tentoonstelling over de drukker Enschedé!

Wij, het Noord-Hollands Archief, bewaarders van geschiedenis, maken een tentoonstelling! Niet zomaar een tentoonstelling, maar een vaste tentoonstelling over een van onze grootste en gaafste collecties: die van de Haarlemse drukker Kon. Joh. Enschedé.

Deze drukker bestaat al sinds 1703 en drukte onder meer bankbiljetten, postzegels en de oudste nog bestaande krant ter wereld: De Oprechte Haarlemse Courant. Enschedé bezat bovendien ook een gerenommeerde lettergieterij. Door de eeuwen heen hebben grote namen, zoals M.C. Escher, Lion Cachet en Jan van Krimpen voor Enschedé ontworpen.

De collectie bevat duizenden stukken prachtig grafisch materiaal. Het bijzondere is dat bij alle producten het proces van ontwerp tot eindproduct inzichtelijk gemaakt kan worden. Deze collectie is een stuk nationaal erfgoed dat uit het depot moet. Daarom willen wij hier een vaste tentoonstelling over maken!

De gratis toegankelijke tentoonstelling krijgt een plek in ons publiekscentrum: de 700 jaar oude Janskerk. Hier komt een presentatie die recht doet aan de rijke collectie van Enschedé. Verschillende facetten uit de geschiedenis van het bedrijf worden belicht en de bezoeker wordt door een aantal installaties uitgedaagd tot interactie.

Fantasiepers - het doel van de crowdfunding
Met deze campagne willen we geld ophalen om een ‘fantasiepers’ te laten maken. Deze centrale installatie is een cruciaal element die als introductie op het hele verhaal dient. Het is het middelpunt van de tentoonstelling waar alle lijntjes samen komen. In de conceptschetsen is een eerste idee hiervan uitgewerkt.

Het Noord-Hollands Archief
Het Noord-Hollands Archief is dé plek om de geschiedenis van Haarlem, Zuid-Kennemerland en van de hele provincie te ontaarden. Wij beheren duizenden archieven en collecties en honderden duizenden bronnen uit de hele provincie die een uniek beeld geven van de geschiedenis van deze regio.

Deze bronnen zijn niet iets wat verborgen moet blijven voor het grote publiek, maar deze willen we graag ook actief delen. Met deze tentoonstelling vertellen we niet alleen het verhaal van Enschedé, maar laten we mensen juist in aanraking komen met hun directe geschiedenis! Bronnen als foto’s en documenten vertellen direct hoe of waarom iets heeft plaatsgevonden, en oog in oog staan met geschiedenis, op precies dezelfde afstand tot het document staan als de originele maker, is haast magisch.

Het Noord-Hollands Archief is er voor iedereen die zijn of haar geschiedenis wil onderzoeken, en dadelijk ook wil bezoeken.

Omdat deze tentoonstelling een vaste opstelling gaat worden willen we deze zo goed mogelijk maken. De fantasiepers is hiervoor van groot belang. Om deze te realiseren hebben we echter nog een bijdrage nodig.

The North-Holland Archives, the stewards of history, is going to make an exhibition. An exhibition about one of our most prized and impressive collections: the collection of the Haarlem based printer Royal Joh. Enschedé.

This printer, est. 1703, made banknotes, (postage) stamps and the oldest, still existing newspaper: De Oprechte Haarlemse Courant. Enschedé also had a renowned typefoundry, which produced world-class types.

This collection contains thousands of beautiful and graphical designs, from the earliest sketches to the finished products and from banknotes to the letter-stamps. As such, the collection is an important piece of national heritage that deserves to be shown. This is why we want to make a permanent exhibition.

The fantasy-press
In this exhibition, which will be accessible free of charge, we will tell the story of Enschedé through objects, documents, texts and interactive installations.

With this campaign we want to raise funding for the central installation, the ‘fantasy-press’. This installation will be the eye-catching centerpiece which will introduce the story to the visitor. In the pictures above you can find the first concept-drawings for this ‘fantasy-press’

The North-Holland Archives
The North-Holland Archives is the place to discover the rich history of Haarlem, Zuid-Kennemerland and the province. We have thousands of archives and collections which give an unique insight in the history of this region.

These sources should not be kept hidden from the public. We want to actively share the stories contained within them and with this exhibition we’re letting everyone come in contact with this piece of national heritage. In our view, there is something magical about seeing the original documents eye-to-eye.

The archives are there for everyone who wants to discover and visit his or her own history
