Welkom bij Plantation.school!
Met Plantation.school willen we een duurzame leeromgeving op Zanzibar aanbieden waarin we de Swahili cultuur centraal stellen en de deelnemers de mogelijkheid bieden de magie van deze bijzondere plek te ervaren.

Met dit unieke project en in samenwerking met de locale bevolking willen we de creatieve geest van studenten, alumni en professionals bewust stimuleren en de urgentie onderstrepen om alternatieve omgangsvormen te vinden met de natuurlijke bronnen van onze kwetsbare planeet.

Tegelijkertijd bieden we twee jonge ambitieuze locale kunstenaars gratis de mogelijkheid om aan het Plantation.school proces deel te nemen om zo beter inzicht te krijgen van de leefomgeving waarin zij actief zijn.

We willen Zanzibar niet veranderen. We laten Zanzibar zien zoals het is!

Voorzieningen:
Om Plantation.school te realiseren hebben we uw financiële steun nodig. Met het bedrag van €15.000,- kunnen we de plantage inrichten met de belangrijkste basisvoorzieningen die nodig zijn om een professionele en veilige maakplaats te creëren en te garanderen. In de begroting voor de crowdfunding hebben we de volgende plannen opgenomen: De realisatie van de 15 platformen voor de tentplaatsen, de keuken- en eetplaats, de toilet- en doucheruimtes inclusief water- en septic tanks.

De realisatie van de bouwplannen bestaat uit 2 fasen:

Fase 1: Voor het regenseizoen (januari - maart): De bouw van alle harde materialen zoals koraal, beton en metaal constructies voor de tentplaatsen, keuken en eetplaats, de toiletruimtes, de afwatering, riolering en arena werkplek onder de mangoboom (zie plattegrond)

Fase 2: Na het regenseizoen (juni – augustus): De afwerking met zachte, natuurlijke materialen zoals een makuti (palmbladeren) dak en hout constructies

Alle plannen zijn de afgelopen maanden zorgvuldig uitgewerkt en besproken met ons team ter plekke.
Alles staat gereed om direct uitgevoerd te worden.

Wat maakt Plantation.school uniek?
Ons doel is dat we op voet van gelijkheid kennis kunnen uitwisselen en ervaring kunnen delen in dialoog met de lokale ambachtslieden en hun traditionele werkwijzen, die al jaren op dit eiland toegepast worden.

Door je open te stellen voor de ‘andere’ wereld krijg je langzaam inzicht in de uiterst kwetsbare maar zeer uitgebalanceerde, gelaagde samenleving waarin de eilandbewoners van Zanzibar leven. Met de workshops die afgewisseld zullen worden met culturele activiteiten willen we toekomstige deelnemer kennis laten maken met de mysterieuze cultuur en de daarmee samenhangende leefgewoonten.

Dialoog:
Nieuwsgierig zijn we naar de manier waarop de deelnemer gaat reageren op zo’n situatie vanuit de eigen praktijk. Of je nu beeldend kunstenaar, designer, schrijver of fotograaf bent, het gaat om de dialoog en uitwisseling met lokale (vak)mensen en hun omgeving, die op dat moment je tutor zijn.

Workshops
De plantation.school workshops vinden plaats vanaf 12 oktober t/m 27 oktober 2019. De deelnemers zullen in 2 weken tijd kennis maken met en ondergedompeld worden in de meest traditionele ambachten en culturele aspecten van het eiland zoals bijvoorbeeld sjamaan rituelen en het huwelijk.

Welcome to Plantation.school!

With Plantation.school we want to create a sustainable learning environment on Zanzibar where we zoom in on the Swahili culture and offer the participants the opportunity to experience the magic of this special place.

We do not want to change Zanzibar. We show Zanzibar as it is!

With this unique project and in collaboration with it's inhabitants, we want to stimulate the creative mind of students, alumni and professionals in the urgency to find alternatives in dealing with the natural resources of our vulnerable planet.

At the same time, we offer two young ambitious local artists the opportunity to participate for free in the Plantation.school process, in order to gain a better understanding of the environment in which they operate.

Services:
To realize Plantation.school we need your financial support. With the amount of € 15,000 we can set up the plantation with the most important basic facilities needed to create and guarantee a professional and safe manufacturing site. As budgeted for our campaign we have included the following plans: The platforms for the tent pitches, the kitchen and dining room, the toilet and shower rooms including water and septic tanks.

The realization of the construction plans consists of 2 phases:
Phase 1: Before the rainy season (January - March): The construction of all hard materials such as coral, concrete and metal constructions for the tent pitches, kitchen and dining room, the toilet areas, the drainage, sewerage and arena workstation under the mango tree (see groundplan)
Phase 2: After the rainy season (June - August): The finishing with soft natural materials, like makuti rooftop and wood constructions.

All plans have been carefully elaborated and discussed with our local team in recent months. Everything is ready for immediate execution.

Dialogue:
We are curious about the way in which the participant reacts to such a situation in relation to their artistic practice. Whether you are a visual artist, designer, writer or photographer, it is all about dialogue with local professionals and their environment,your tutors at that time.

What makes Plantation.school unique?
Our aim is to exchange knowledge on equal basis and shared experience in dialogue with local artisans and their traditional methods, which have been applied on this island for many years.

By opening up to the 'other' world, you slowly gain insight into the extremely vulnerable but very balanced and multi layered society in which the islanders of Zanzibar live. With the workshops that will be alternated with cultural activities, we want to introduce the future participant to the mysterious culture and the associated living habits.

Workshops
The plantation.school workshops take place from October 12 to October 27, 2019. In 2 weeks time, the participants will get acquainted with and immersed in the most traditional crafts and cultural aspects of the island, like e.g. shaman rituals and marriage.
