De Noordzee moet varen! Als de stoomketel aangesloten wordt, kan deze unieke historische sleper weer varen als educatie- en evenementenboot

In de tweede helft van 2018 krijgt de laatste fase van de restauratie van de zeegaande stoomsleepboot Noordzee zijn beslag. Het is een uniek nautisch monument dat absoluut als historisch erfgoed voor het nageslacht dient te worden bewaard. Om ook deze laatste fase van de restauratie te kunnen financieren, waardoor de Noordzee weer onder stoom kan varen, is uw hulp nodig.

Met uw hulp kan de stoomketel aangesloten worden op de stoommachine, wat een kostbaar project is. In haar oude glorie hersteld kan de sleepboot straks weer op evenementen als educatie- en demonstratieschip. Daarmee doet het de geschiedenis van stoom en de start van de industriële revolutie weer herleven.Daarnaast zal de Noordzee ook worden ingezet voor vaartrips, asverstrooiingen op zee en intochten van Sinterklaas.

Geschiedenis
De in 1922 van stapel gelopen Noordzee is in Nederland nog de enig varende,kolengestookte zeegaande stoomsleepboot. In 1976 kwam de sleper in handen van de bekende luxejachtenbouwer Kees Jongert. Na diens overlijden, in 2010, ging de conditie van de Noordzee snel achteruit. Onder leiding van de nieuwe eigenaar, de Stichting Stoomsleepboot Noordzee, werd in 2017 een ambitieus restauratieprogramma in werking gezet. In 2018 worden de laatste restauraties uitgevoerd.

Voortgang
In de eerste fase van 2018 heeft de Noordzee bij een professionele werf op de helling gestaan en is daar, ook met hulp van diverse vrijwilligers, flink onder handen genomen. Ook is op deze werf de oude stoomketel vervangen door een nieuw exemplaar. Dit alles was mogelijk dankzij nauwe samenwerking met de Stichting Museumhaven Willemsoord in Den Helder en de financiële steun van het Waddenfonds, de Provincie Noord-Holland, de Stichting Zabawas, het Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds, Stichting Helder Licht en diverse andere geldverstrekkers. Nu is de restauratie in de afrondende fase beland. Deze omvat het aansluiten van de stoomketel, het nodige schilderwerk en de verdere inbedrijfstelling. Voor de financiering hiervan is uw hulp hard nodig. Met uw steun kunnen we de stoomsleepboot Noordzee binnenkort weer te laten varen.

HELP THE STEAM TUG NOORDZEE SAIL AGAIN

We are nearly there! As soon as the steam boiler has been connected and we have crossed every ‘t’ and dotted every ‘I’, this unique and historic tug could sail again.

We need your support to enable this last phase of the restoration to take place. It would make it possible for us to see the Noordzee back in steam, educating future generations and to see our industrious past in working order.

History
The Noordzee was launched in 1922 and is the last surviving coal fired seagoing steam tug in the Netherlands. In 1976 the boat was purchased by the well-known luxury yacht builder Kees Jongert. After his death in 2010, the tug’s condition deteriorated rapidly.
The Noordzee’s ownership was transferred into a new trust, the Steam tug Noordzee Trust (Stichting Stoomsleepboot Noordzee). An ambitious restoration plan was started in 2017 and the aim is to finish this largescale restoration in the early part of 2019.

Progress
A massive amount has happened during the first restoration phase earlier this year. A lot of work was carried out by a dedicated group of enthusiastic volunteers. The Noordzee was lifted out of the water on a ship’s slope at a professional ship yard in Den Helder to clean below the waterline. At this yard the old condemned boiler was replaced with a nearly new second hand equivalent. This was all possible thanks to close corporation with the Stichting Museumhaven Willemsoord in Den Helder (Trust Museum-Harbour Willemsoord) and financial support from several Dutch funding streams.
The restoration has now reached the final stages. This includes connecting the replacement steam boiler, more necessary painting and further tasks to make the boat a safe vessel. For this we rely on your much needed support. With your support we can return the Noordzee to full steam and sail her once more.
