After The Darkness

The Hague String Trio

The Hague String Trio werd in 2006 opgericht door Justyna Briefjes, Julia Dinerstein en Miriam Kirby. Na jaren van studie en werk in vele landen, waaronder Rusland, Mexico, Noorwegen, Engeland, Duitsland en Nederland, hebben we ons alle drie in Den Haag gevestigd. Wij kwamen bij elkaar om onze liefde voor kamermuziek te delen en verkennen graag het uitgebreide strijktriorepertoire, van de geliefde meesterwerken tot de minder bekende composities die volgens ons de moeite waard zijn om gehoord te worden.

Project After the Darkness

Tot deze composities behoren de zes werken die wij op onze cd After the Darkness hebben opgenomen. Ze zijn geschreven door Joodse componisten wier levens zijn verwoest in de Tweede Wereldoorlog door vervolging, moord of verbanning. De titel van de cd verwijst naar het boek van Auschwitz-overlevende Elie Wiesel, After the Darkness: Reflections on the Holocaust’.

After The Darkness is een project dat ons na aan het hart ligt. Wij voelen het als een voorrecht de muziek van deze componisten te laten horen en een blijvende nalatenschap te creëren, zodat hun stemmen nooit vergeten worden.

Extra bijzonder op de cd is de opname van het ‘Trio à cordes’ van Dick Kattenburg die hiermee een wereldpremière is en daarnaast herdenken we de 100e geboortejaren van Gideon Klein, László Weiner en Mieczysław Weinberg.

Om dit project te kunnen bekostigen hebben we uw hulp nodig. Dankzij de Henri Moerel Foundation en de Gravin van Bylandt Stichting hebben we een deel van de kosten kunnen dekken. Voor het resterende bedrag kunnen we uw steun goed gebruiken. Uiteraard bent u ook van harte uitgenodigd voor het cd-release concert op 24 februari om 15.00 uur in de Paleiskerk in Den Haag.

The Hague String Trio

The Hague String Trio was founded by Justyna Briefjes, Julia Dinerstein and Miriam Kirby in 2006. After years of study and working in many countries, including Russia, Mexico, Norway, England, Germany and The Netherlands, all three of us settled in The Hague. We came together to share our love for chamber music and enjoy exploring the extensive string trio repertoire, from treasured masterpieces to lesser known compositions which we believe deserve more recognition.

Project After the Darkness

These include the six compositions we have recorded for our CD After the Darkness. They were written by Jewish composers whose lives were destroyed in World War II by persecution, murder or exile. The title of the CD refers to the book by Auschwitz survivor Elie Wiesel, After the Darkness: Reflections on the Holocaust.

After The Darkness is a project that lies close to our hearts. It is a privilege to let the music of these composers be heard and to create a lasting testament so their voices will never be forgotten.

Not only is the recording of theTrio à cordes by Dick Kattenburg a world première, but we are also commemorating the 100th anniversaries of the births of Gideon Klein, László Weiner and Mieczysław Weinberg.

To fund this project we need your help! Thanks to the Henri Moerel Foundation and the Gravin van Bylandt Stichting we have been able to cover part of the costs. We could still really use your support to raise the remaining sum. Needless to say you are very welcome at our CD release concert at 15:00, 24th February in the Paleiskerk in The Hague.
