COLLECTIE PRESENTATIE
Momenteel zijn we, Judith van Vliet en Amber Ambrose Aurèle hard aan het werk aan onze duurzame collectie 'Van Hollandse Bodem'. We kunnen je hulp goed gebruiken om deze uit te voeren en daadwerkelijk te showen. De opbrengst van de crowdfunding hebben we hard nodig om de kosten voor de communicatie van de collectie te kunnen dekken, zoals het showen en alles daaromheen (productie, PR, modellen, choreografie, etc.)
Als de crowdfund geslaagd is zullen we de collectie showen tijdens het nieuwe multidisciplinaire mode event: M-ODE. Wat gehouden wordt tijdens 'We Make The City' in Amsterdam (20- 24 juni 2018).

CONCEPT
Vanaf de jaren 70 zijn we steeds meer productie gaan opschuiven vanuit Nederland en EU naar andere landen, waar de lonen lager liggen. Veel productie ging naar China en andere Aziatische landen. Zo werden producten voor ons, in Nederland steeds goedkoper en droeg dit sterk bij aan het ontstaan van de consumptiemaatschappij. Veel en vaak kopen voor aanzienlijk minder werd de standaard, en zo ook veel weggooien, aangezien de kwaliteit niet altijd even goed is en we mee willen met de (snelle) mode. Naast de lage lonen, is dus ook de kwaliteit naar beneden gegaan, om alle producten zo goedkoop mogelijk te houden.
Door de grote hoeveelheden producties worden er heel veel grondstoffen gebruikt, grondstoffen die bewerkt moeten worden met chemicaliën, voor zowel de groei of maak, als voor verfstoffen etc. Deze grondstoffen komen van verschillende plekken van de wereld, worden verscheept en verder verwerkt tot textiel en weer ergens anders tot kledingstuk. Kortom, de huidige manier van produceren gaat ten koste van de aarde wegens verscheping & chemicaliën en ten koste van (onderbetaalde) mensen in lageloonlanden.
Zou het een oplossing zijn om alles weer meer lokaal te doen? Textiel weer gaan verbouwen & verwerken in Nederland/EU, op een meer verantwoorde wijze? Gebruik maken van grondstoffen die beter zijn voor het milieu?
MATERIALEN
Daarom zijn we gestart met de research & collectie ‘van Hollandse bodem’. We maken een collectie bijna geheel van Nederlandse producten. Producten die zoveel mogelijk van grondstoffen zijn gemaakt die hier gegroeid en bewerkt zijn. Grondstoffen die hier op een goede manier kunnen groeien, zonder chemicaliën. De grondstoffen hennep, linnen en wol zijn perfecte Nederlandse grondstoffen, die veel makkelijker te telen zijn dan bijvoorbeeld katoen. Katoen heeft heel veel water en bestrijdingsmiddelen nodig, in tegenstelling tot hennep of linnen.
Veel stoffen zullen worden geweven door Enschede Textielstad, die overigens ook veel werkt met gerecyclede garens. Deze worden in Nederland gerecycled van in Nederland verzamelde producten of overproductie, hier zullen we ook enkele stoffen van gebruiken. Daarnaast werken we met visleer, afkomstig van Nederlandse vissen, wat een afvalproduct is van de voedselindustrie en met Nederlandse wol van Nederlandse schapen.
LOOKS
Tot slot zijn de looks van de collectie geïnspireerd op Nederland. We laten ons inspireren door de bekende Nederlandse kunstbeweging De Stijl en de bijbehorende kunstenaars maar ook door architect Ben van Berkel. Denk ook aan Delfts blauw, windmolens, visserstruien en de zee waar Nederland altijd meeverbonden is. Strakke lijnen en primaire kleuren, naar meer abstracte vormen. Rechte tops met soepele, mooi beweeglijke broeken. Van colorblock naar dip dye.

COLLECTION PRESENTATION
We, Judith van Vliet en Amber Ambrose Aurèle, are working hard to realise the collection 'Van Hollandse Bodem' (from Dutch ground) and really need your help to complete the collection! With your donation we will have the possibility to show the collection. This will help us with the costs for the show production, provide models, choreography, PR etc.
When this campaign will succeed, we will show the collection at multi-disciplinary fashion event M-ODE, during 'We Make the City' in Amsterdam (20-24 June). With your support we can show sustainability is the answer of the future and it can look really great!

CONCEPT
In the 1970s many fabric production facilities have moved from The Netherlands to countries where the price of labour was considerably lower. Most of these facilities moved to countries like China, Bangladesh and other Asian countries. This led to a booming market of cheaper products in the West, thus contributing strongly to our Western society of consumerism. Buying much and often became the new standard. As a result Fast-Fashion could evolve leading to large amounts of clothes with a very short life-cycle where quality and durability are of a secondary concern and the environmental impact is enormous.
The large scale productions require a lot of (natural) resources. Resources that need treatment with water and much chemicals for both growth and futher processing such as dyeing. These resources come from all over the world, needing transportation for initial processing into textiles and further shipping for the next location where the clothes are made.
In short, the current way of production has a huge impact on the environment because of the big demand for resouces and the energy required for getting these resources in place for further processing. Would it be a solution to go back to a more locally oriented production? To start growing and making textiles in The Netherlands or EU? To make use of resources that have little to no impact on the environment and are close by?
To find answers, we have started the research and collection ‘van Hollandse bodem’ (Made in Holland). We looked into the possibilities to make a collection from as far as possible exclusively Dutch products. Products from materials that have been grown and processed right here. Materials that can grow here well without the use of harmful chemicals.
MATERIALS
The materials hemp, linen and wool are ideal Dutch materials that are all far easier to grow than for instance cotton. Cotton requires immense amouts of water and pesticides when compared to hemp or linen. The colours for the collection are environmentally friendly too, with mostly natural colours (some coming from indigenous plants) or that require no water. The fabrics are woven by Enschede Textielstad, a Dutch small sustainable weaving mill. The wool comes from Dutch sheep, both for fabrics and yarns. We will also use fish leather, for fish who swim in the North Sea, a rest product of the meat.
LOOKS
The looks of the collection are inspired on The Netherlands. We are inspired by the well-known Dutch art movement: De Stijl and its artist, but also by architect Ben van Berkel. Also we are making references to typical Dutch things like Delfts blue, the ever present struggle with water and fishermen’s knitwear. Straight lines and color blocks, into more flowing outfits. Total looks from head to toe.
