Support me in making the Voices from the Amazon heard!

Many indigenous peoples from the Amazon are threatened by big multinationals, even though they are protecting the lungs of the earth.
To help me ensure the indigenous voices of the Amazon rainforest are expressed in film, photographs, stories and songs, I need your support for the additional production costs and for realizing an exhibition!

Connect
Ever since I was small I have felt a special bond with the indigenous tribes of Latin America. Each time I visited the continent my love strengthened. I discovered they had knowledge that we had lost. They have an awareness about how to live in harmony with nature, that the world needs now. At the same time, I heard about the cruel injustices perpetrated by multinationals towards peoples trying to protect nature and our earth.

Two years ago, I decided to help them broadcast their voice. As a photographer and filmmaker mainly working on social and environmental issues, I want to help their cause by spreading their voices; I think by helping them, we also help the world and ourselves. To start with, I am in contact with tribes from the Amazon region in Ecuador and Colombia, and they have invited me to come. I'm going there in January 2018! I see this trip as the first of a series, gathering together the voices from tribes all over the world.

The message
Indigenous people see nature as part of themselves and humans as part of nature. To be in harmony with nature means to only take what you really need, and give back what is needed. To help stop climate change, restore the balance with nature and avoid sicknesses like depression and burnout, we urgently need the knowledge of these guardians of the forest.

During my travels in Latin America I learned that local tribes are reaching out to the world. Two years ago I visited the COP21 climate conference in Paris and had the honour of filming and interviewing some of the indigenous peoples there to talk at the summit. They brought a proposal with them called The Living Forest: their vision of seeing and treating nature.

Getting the message across -photos, films & exhibition
I want to help them spread this vision through poetic photography, films and sounds. Think of beautiful portraits and nature shots, short films, stories and songs. I will be sharing short films on the internet and make a mixed media exhibition out of it.

Of course, I also want to use this material to draw the attention to the struggle they face in keeping the Amazon and their rich culture alive.

Be our eyes and ears

DE STEM VAN DE AMAZONE

Steun mij om de stemmen uit het Amazonegebied te helpen hoorbaar te maken!

Veel inheemse stammen in het Amazonegebied worden bedreigd door multinationals, zelfs al beschermen zij deze longen van de aarde.
Om de boodschap van de inheemsen uit het Amazonegebied naar buiten te kunnen brengen in film, fotografie, verhalen en liederen, heb ik jullie steun nodig voor extra productiekosten en om de expositie te kunnen realiseren.

Verbinden
Sinds ik klein was heb ik altijd een speciale band gevoeld met de inheemse bevolking van Latijns Amerika. Elke keer dat ik het continent bezocht werd mijn liefde sterker. Ik vond bij hun kennis die wij verloren zijn. Zij hebben een bewustzijn over in harmonie leven met de natuur die de aarde hard nodig heeft. Tegelijkertijd zag ik een wrede onrechtvaardigheid door multinationals naar juist die mensen die de natuur en onze aarde proberen te beschermen.

Twee jaar geleden kreeg ik het idee om hun oproepen te versterken. Als fotograaf en filmmaker die vooral met sociale en milieukwesties werkt wil ik hun helpen om hun stem te laten horen en hun wereld met hier te verbinden, omdat we veel voor elkaar kunnen betekenen. Ik ben in contact met stammen uit het Amazonegebied in Ecuador en Colombia, en zij hebben me uitgenodigd om te komen. In januari 2018 is het dan zover! Ik zie deze reis als de eerste van een lange serie om boodschappen van inheemse stammen over de hele wereld te verzamelen.

De boodschap
Inheemse bevolkingen zien de natuur als een deel van zichzelf en mensen als deel van de natuur. Om in harmonie met de natuur te zijn neem je alleen watje echt nodig hebt en geef je terug wat nodig is. Om klimaatverandering tegen te gaan, de balans te helpen herstellen en ziektes als depressie en burnout tegen te gaan, hebben we de kennis van deze bewakers van het bos hard nodig.

Tijdens mijn reizen in Latijns Amerika merkte ik dat de lokale stammen contact willen leggen met de rest van de wereld. Twee jaar geleden bezocht ik de klimaattop COP21 in Parijs en had ik de eer om sommige inheemsen die er waren om te praten op de top te mogen filmen en interviewen. Ze hadden een voorstel bij zich dat ze Het Levende Bos noemden: hun visie van de natuur en hoe deze behandeld zou moeten worden.

De boodschap overbrengen- foto's, films, audio en een expositie
Ik wil ze helpen om hun visie te verspreiden in poëtische fotografie, films en geluiden. Denk aan prachtige portretten en foto’s van de natuur, verhalen en liederen. Ik zal dit materiaaldelen op het internet en er een mixed media expositie van maken.

Natuurlijk wil ik dit materiaal ook gebruiken om de aandacht te richten op de strijd die deze mensen leveren om de Amazone en hun rijke cultuur levend te houden.

Wees onze ogen en oren!
