Connect the Dots is a program revolving around participatory artworks, where audience members become active participants.

The instrument inventors initiative , or iii , is an artist-run platform supporting radical interdisciplinary practices engaging with image, sound, space and the body.
The program Connect the Dots will be composed of three parts, an exhibition, a symposium and a performance program and takes place in The Hague in the Netherlands in the Fall.
- The exhibition "Performance, Objects, Bodies" will present works by young makers who use simple configurations of objects to engage with the senses of the audience. It runs from September 15 to October 8.
- The interdisciplinary symposium "The Craft of Experience Design" will bring together makers to share ideas and methods for engaging the audience in performance art, theater, exhibition design, media art, game design and larp, during the day on October 5th.
- A night of interdisciplinary performances in the No Patent Pending series concludes the program in the evening of October 5th.

What is the symposium about?
How do you design a participative experience? How do you give a visitor agency? What is the interaction between technology and the visitor, and what is the interaction between visitors? How do you set the rules for a game that's about winning or losing, but about experience?
During the symposium we want to bring together artists, makers and researchers to discuss different ways of making participative experiences. The fields of theater, performance, media art, game design and larp have different histories in terms of motivation and methodology for creating participative experiences. What do they have in common? What do they do differently? And why?
The symposium is set up with presentations by 6 speakers from different fields and plenty of time for questions and discussions with the audience after each talk and a panel discussion at the end of the day with all speakers moderated by Marinka Copier.
iii needs your help
To make this all happen, we need your help: we have already secured more than half of the budget through public funding, and now we seek your help in funding the symposium program.
In order to cater to different payment transaction needs, we have an indiegogo campaign running simultaneously.
To confirm the symposium program, we will need a minimum of € 1500, and aim for a total goal of € 4000.
The main event will take place in The Hague on October 5th and will be documented for those who will not be able to attend physical attendance.
What do we offer in this crowdfunding campaign?
- Tickets to the symposium and No Patent Pending
- The book "No Patent Pending, Self-Made Performative Media"
- A Connect the Dots poster
What is the money spent on?
- Fees for all the artists involved (in the exhibition, the symposium and the performance)
- Travel and accommodation for the artists coming from abroad
- Fees for the curation of the events
- Tech support for the events
- Materials needed for the events
- Promotion of the event through flyers and posters
- Video documentation of the events
Is this the first time?
While iii has not organized a symposium before, we have gained extensive experience organizing performance events, exhibitions and a reading room series over the past few years. Last year we organized a big event ( Sand Songs ) on a remote beach in adverse weather conditions - we are confident that we can make Connect the Dots happen in the cozy Korzo theater in the center of The Hague.
Marije Baalman is curating and producing the symposium program. Long before Marije joined in 2007, organizing the Linux Audio Conference in Berlin, she has been involved in many other conferences and symposia as a speaker. While working at STEIM she curated several events around e-textiles, performance and sound as part of the METABODY EU project.
Matteo Marangoni is an artist interested in ritual arenas, home brewed inventions and applied utopianism. Since 2013 as chairman of iii coordinates the activities of the organization and he curates the nomadic performance series No Patent Pending.
This is our first crowdfunding campaign - a new experience that we invite you to participate in!
