The European Guitar Concerto Competition & Festival

Van 29 januari tot en met 4 februari 2018 organiseert stichting Dutch Guitar Foundation de eerste editie van The European Guitar Concerto Competition & Festival te Groningen.

Met dit project wil de stichting jonge gitaristen uit alle windstreken de kans geven de bekende gitaarconcerti uit hun repertoire te spelen. Hoewel dit een droom is van velen, is het helaas vaak niet mogelijk binnen het curriculum van de studie om met een pianobegeleider of orkest samen te werken om deze stukken uit te voeren. Daarom spelen de gitaristen in de eerste ronde van het concours al een cadenza van het concerto, werken de gitaristen in de tweede ronde samen met een pianist en in de finale met het Kamerorkest van het Noorden, dat wordt geleid door de jonge Griekse dirigent Dimitris Spouras.

Het festival en de competitie zullen plaatsvinden in De Oosterpoort en het Prins Claus Conservatorium in Groningen. Op het Prins Claus Conservatorium vinden de eerste twee rondes van de competitie plaats, evenals de avondconcerten van onze artiesten. Artiesten die wij voor deze concerten willen uitnodigen zijn het Montenegrin Guitar Duo en gitaartrio Zoran Dukic, Costas Cotsiolis, Aniello Desiderio. In de Oosterpoort zal de finale van de competitie plaatsvinden en zal Sabrina Vlaskalic Concierto de Aranjuez uitvoeren samen met het eerdergenoemde Kamerorkest van het Noorden.

Verder zal er een gitaarbouwersexpo zijn en zullen onze gerenommeerde artiesten niet alleen concerten verzorgen, maar ook vele publiekelijk toegankelijke masterclasses.

We hebben reeds steun mogen ontvangen van o.a. het Prins Claus Conservatorium, De Oosterpoort, het Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds, Kunstraad, Stichting Beringer Hanzewinkel en Broekema Nielsen Notarissen, alle hulp is hard nodig en van harte welkom.

Uw bijdrage zal gaan naar de huur van de locaties, honorarium van de artiesten en het prijzengeld voor de competitiedeelnemers. Natuurlijk kunt u ook wat terugverwachten. Wat dacht u van toegangskaartjes voor de competitie of een soloconcert bij u thuis?

The European Guitar Concerto Competition & Festival

From the 29th of January till the 4th of February 2018 the Dutch Guitar Foundation organises the first edition of The European Guitar Concerto Competition & Festival in Groningen, The Netherlands.

With this project the Foundation wants to give young guitarist from all corners of the world a chance to play the well-known guitar concerti from their repertoire. Even though this is a dream of many, it is rarely possible within the curriculum of the classical guitar study to play these pieces with a piano accompanist or an orchestra. That is why the guitarists who take part in our competition will get the opportunity to perform with piano in the second round and with orchestra in the finals. They will even play solo cadenza of the concerto in the first round. The orchestra that has been selected is the Kamerorkest van het Noorden, a young Dutch orchestra based in the North, that will during this occasion be led by young Greek conductor, Dimitris Spouros.

The festival and the competition will take place in concert venue De Oosterpoort and the Prince Claus Conservatoire in Groningen. The first two rounds of the competition, as well as the evening concerts by our artists will take place at the conservatoire. Artists that have been invited are the Montenegrin Guitar Duo and guitar trio Zoran Dukic, Costas Cotsiolis, Aniello Desiderio. The finals of the competition, as well as a performance of Concierto de Aranjuez by Sabrina Vlaskalic and the Kamerorkest van het Noorden will take place in De Oosterpoort.

There will also be an expo where guitar luthiers can display their guitars and our great artists will not only be giving concerts, but public masterclasses as well.

We have so far been honoured with the support of the Prince Claus Conservatoire, De Oosterpoort, het Prins Berhnard Cultuurfonds, Kunstraad, Stichting Beringer Hazewinkel and Broekeman Nielsen Notarisses, but all help is needed and welcome.

Your contribution will go to the rent and booking of our venues and artists, as well as the prize fund for the competitors. Of course we will offer you something in return. What about tickets to the competition or a concert in your own living room?
