One Night's Dance
One Night’s Dance is Dansateliers’ annual project for early career dancemakers.
During One Night’s Dance five selected choreographers get the chance to create a short work that will be shared with the audience in December. The makers are offered studio time, coaching, workshops and shared feedbacksessions in the professional surroundings of Dansateliers.
Who are the One Night's Dance makers?
The makers that were selected for this year’s One Night’s Dance are:
Evangelos Biskas, Gil the Grid, Zoé Leduc, Olga Tsvetkova and Niels Weijer.
How can you support these makers?
Dansateliers offers these makers studio-time, professional guidance, workshops, presentation, space and exposure. You can help the makers with a small production budget. Your contribution goes directly to the makers! They can spend the budget on cast, set or sound to fully give form to their ideas.
Where can you see the result?
You can see the results during the One Night’s Dance 2016 presentations on 8, 9, 10, 11 and 15, 16, 17, 18 December in Dansateliers.
Meet the makers!
Evangelos Biskas is a dancer and choreographer fascinated by science, physics and surrealism. He developed his own specific physical and verbal improvisation language with which he investigates the relationship between performer and audience.
During One Night’s Dance he departs from a surreal aestheticism and improvisational methods. Keywords for the work in progress are: absurdity, humour and spontaneity.
Gil “The Grid” is a dancer that developed his own experimental movement language with roots from the hip hop scene. As a dancer he performed on different stages around the globe. As a choreographer he tries to touch an audience within a more intimate and theatrical setting.
During One Night’s Dance Gill works together with four members of his Amenti Collective. Together they create a new performance that will be a spiritual search to the ‘self’, about the overcoming of obstacles and life-changing events.
Zoé Leduc is young dancer with an urge to create. In her work she researches what it means to be human and how this can be expressed through the body.
During One Night’s Dance Zoé Leduc creates a duet in which she studies different aspects of one-on-one contact. What does it mean to take care of somebody? What does it mean to offer someone a deep support? What is it to be dependent? And what does it mean to be independent?
Olga Tsvetkova approaches choreography as a system of tools that can be used to sculpt time and construct space. She constantly searches for an imaginary component that could lead the audience away from the reality of the black box theatre into a different consciousness.
During One Night’s Dance Olga works together with Burkhard_Körner. They focuson the voice as an instrument and entity that can start to lead its own life and is able to release untamed physical forces.
Niels Weijer is always in search fornew forms and ways of movement. As a maker he tries to show himself and hisaudience how dance is an organic movement, not bound to any laws or rules.
During One Night’s Dance Niels creates a ritual performance that starts from one set of movements that are inspired by daily observations. What does unity look like in era where we are constantly on our phones, swiping for contact?
Support these makers now and see the results of their trajectory during the One Night’s Dance presentations on 8-11 and 15-18 December in Dansateliers, Rotterdam.
Thank you! And hope to see you at One Night's Dance!
