Back in Russia, this time in Kronstadt, I'm working on Sea Factory, a new film based on colour separation. Inspired by the early colour photography of the Russian photographer Prokudin-Gorskii, I apply colour separation in film. For the completion of this film, I need your help !!!

Prokudin-Gorskii
Tussen ca. 1905 en 1915 paste Sergei Prokudin-Goskii het fotografische procedé van kleurseparatie toe om het Russische Rijk vast te leggen in kleur. Het kleurseparatie procedé is gebaseerd op drie zwart/wit foto's: een gemaakt door een rood filter, een gemaakt door een groen filter, en een gemaakt door een blauw filter. Door deze zwart/wit foto's, voorzien van dezelfde kleurenfilters, exact over elkaar te leggen, ontstaat een volledig kleurenbeeld.
Between 1905 and 1915 Sergey Prokudin-Gorskii used the early photography process of colourseparation to document the Russian Empire in colour. The colour separation process is based on three black & white photos: one made with a red filter, one with a green filter, and one with a blue filter. By superimposing the resulting black & white photos, fitted with the same colour filters, on top of each other a full colour image is additively generated.
Three Dimensions of Time
De film die ik nu ik Kronstadt maak, is de tweede uit een reeks films op basis van kleurseparatie gefilmd in Rusland. Vorig jaar heb ik op uitnodiging een filmfestival in Siberië bezocht. waar ik Three Dimensions of Time heb gemaakt.
Door drie momentopnames, voorzien van een rood, blauw en groen filter, te combineren, krijgt alles wat niet beweegt in de additieve kleurmenging een normale kleur. Gelijktijdig ontstaat in alles wat in de verschillende beeldlagen ten opzichte van elkaar wel beweegt een afwijkende kleur. Daarnaast laat alles wat beweegt slechts een halftransparant spoor na: alsof het herinneringen of geesten zijn die hun verleden, heden of toekomst achter zich hebben gelaten.
Three Dimensions of Time zal in september tijdens het Nederlands Film Festival in Utrecht en Encounters Short Film festival in Bristol te zien zijn. Three Dimensions of Time was eerder dit jaar al te zien op onder meer het Hamburg International Short Film Festival, Lucca Film Festival en Taiwan International Documentary Festival.
The film which I'm creating now in Kronstadt, is the second of a series of films based on colour separation filmed in Russia. Last year I was invited to a film festival in Siberia, were I made Three Dimensions of Time.
Each scenes of the film is filmed from the exact same position during three different moments in time. Combined the three shots, one with a red, one with a green, and one with a blue filter, form normal colours in all the motionless elements. Simultaneously transitory elements –people, animals, machines – move through these scenes in deviant colours, leaving only a transparent trace, as if they are memories or ghosts who have left behind their past, present or future.
Three Dimensions of Time will be screened in September at the Dutch Film Festival in Utrecht and Encounters Short Film Festival in Bristol. Three Dimensions of Time has, among other festivals, been shown at Hamburg International Short Film Festival, Lucca Film Festival and Taiwan International Documentary Festival.
