"The Encounter" by Adrian Paci, at Fondazione Pistoletto (IT) and Art House (AL)
"The Encounter: reclaming the potentiality of affection" is a short residency program curated by Albanian artist Adrian Paci. It is part of the UNIDEE program and will take place in Cittadellarte in Biella (IT) and Art House in Shkodër (AL) from 10 to 21 October 2016.
The content of this program and Paci's work touch on the same subjects that I am researching with my practice. During the residency I and the other participants will reflect on the role of the artist as narrator of a place, a story and experience, and on the value of the encounter with the other.
Participating in this program will help me deepen my current practice in a unique setting: a small and diverse group of participants that share the same kind of research but approach it from different perspectives and disciplines.

I am an Italian artist based in the Netherlands. As foreigner trying to become part of a new society, I observe the daily interactions between people and artefacts. This has become my way to understanding the culture of the place where I live. I see the physical places where we live as a medium that connects people and bridges our different identities.
I graduated from Rietveld Academy in 2014 and I received a Mondriaan Fund Stipendium for Depth Development Artistic Practice in 2015. My current project "Distance as time, distance as sound, distance as words" is supported by Amsterdams Fonds voor de Kunst and Peer Paper Platform.

Distance as time, distance as sound, distance as words
I am connected to Amsterdam through the places that make me feel part of the city, that are part of my routine or my history and that represent a desire or a memory of inclusion. The distances between me and these places are the skeleton of my relationship with the city.
Over the course of a few months, I am walking multiple times to these destinations all over the city, trying to get back the physical experience of distance, because I believe that that is the space where my identity is being produced every time in relation to the surroundings.
I am exploring different ways of perceiving these distances physically, and I am interested in how these experiences become stories and documents, through visual and performative media.

Distance as time, 1 - 16 (2016)
I register distances in terms of the time that it takes to reach a certain place in Amsterdam on foot from my home. For each walk, I fill a white page with a drawing for the same amount of time as the walk took.
Then, on a subsequent walk I collect all the words that I encounter while I walk towards my destination, such as displays on the street, names of shops, slogans and graffiti.
Also, separately, I try to reach my destination by following the voice of others having conversations, and I draw a map of the distance between me and those voices.
Cittadellarte - Pistoletto Foundation decided to support my participation to "The Encounter" with a grant that will cover 50% of the tuition. I hope to raise the remaining funds on Voordekunst.
Your support will make it possible for me to participate, by funding my travel expenses to Italy and Albania and the 50% of the tuition that is not covered by the grant.
For each small contribution: thank you, really! I am grateful for your support and sympathy! According to your donation, you can choose to receive a postcard, either hand-drawn or ready-made, or a drawing that I will send to you from the two locations of the residency: Biella and Shkoder; a ticket for two people to attend This Art Fair and a paperback copy of my book "Elsewhere" (2014).
