Als portretfotograaf ben ik al jarenlang gefascineerd door roodharige kinderen. In 2007 heb ik mijn eerste portretten gemaakt in de serie Flaming Grace. Later heb ik ze niet alleen in Nederland, maar ook in Amerika en Ierland gevonden en geportretteerd. Waarom? Gewoonweg omdat ik ze adembenemend mooi vind. Ik vind ze mystiek en sprookjesachtig en ze laten mijn creativiteit op volle toeren draaien. De kinderen zijn onvervalst puur en ze zijn zich (nog) niet bewust van de buitenwereld. Heerlijk om mee te werken! Inmiddels heb ik zelfs enkele kinderen voor de tweede keer opgezocht en geportretteerd. Gaandeweg leerde ik meer over het roodharige MCR1-gen en heb ik vele verhalen en mythes gehoord. Er zijn tegenwoordig zelfs roodharige festivals. Ik ben dus niet de enige bewonderaar van deze unieke groep die hun haarkleur wil vieren.

Het boek

Nu ben ik klaar om al mijn portretten met de wereld te delen in de vorm van een mooi, exclusief boek. Het boek is prachtig ontworpen door Teun van der Heijden van Heijdens Karwei. Het begin is verrassend! Al bladerend door de rode tinten komt u bij de portretten, die in een mooi ritme zijn weergegeven. Het wordt een hardcover boek met een bedrukte linnen omslag en 104 pagina's. De afmeting is 28 x 24,5 cm er zal slechts een oplage zijn van 500 stuks. Elk exemplaar heeft dus zijn eigen unieke nummer.

Wie ben ik?

In 2009 ben ik succesvol afgestudeerd als portretfotograaf aan de Fotoacademie Amsterdam. Een jaar later ben ik met mijn gezin verhuisd naar Colorado (USA) en heb daar drie jaar gewoond. Ik heb in die tijd veel geleerd, gezien en ervaren, rondom het vak fotografie, maar vooral rondom mezelf. Doordat ik weinig afleiding van buiten had, heb ik leren varen op eigen intuïtie en zienswijze. In de afgelopen jaren zijn de door mij gemaakte portretten internationaal gepubliceerd, tentoongesteld en in de prijzen gevallen. De portretten uit de serie Flaming Grace zijn onder andere te zien geweest in het Argentijnse Festival de la Luz XVIII, het Ogden Museum in New Orleans en in The Art of Photography Show in San Diego. Sommige portretten zijn inmiddels opgenomen in collecties.

Wat ga ik doen met de donaties?

Het maken van een boek is prijzig. Denk alleen maar al aan het ontwerpen, drukken, binden, verpakken en verzenden. Met behulp van jullie donaties weet ik dat ik de drukker straks kan betalen. Het is slechts een deel van de totale productiekosten. Het andere deel investeer ik zelf met de hoop dat ik het straks terugverdien. Als dank komt iedere donateur, die voorintekent op Flaming Grace, met zijn/haar naam in het boek te staan en worden jullie allemaal uitgenodigd voor de boekpresentatie tijdens de Kunstroute in Leiden op 24 september as. Alleen met jullie hulp kan dit boek tot stand komen en mijn wens werkelijkheid worden!

Meer informatie tegenprestaties

Ik heb mooie tegenprestaties bedacht! Ik nodig u graag uit om ze eens rustig te bestuderen. Wat betreft de afdrukken: mijn portretten hebben een oplage van maximaal 13 (+ 2 artist proofs), ongeacht de afmeting. Een aantal portretten maken al deel uit van een collectie. De afdrukken krijgen dus een editienummer en worden gesigneerd.

Kijkt u ook vooral eens naar de tegenprestatie met de handgemaakte doos (inclusief een afdruk naar keuze). Deze doos wordt gemaakt door Jonna Cohen van Cohen Boekrestauratie in Rotterdam. Het wordt prachtig en ligt daardoor extra mooi op uw tafel.

For years now I've been fascinated by red headed children. In 2007 I made the first portraits in the series Flaming Grace. I've not only photographed them in The Netherlands, but also in the US and Ireland. Why? Simply because I think they're breathtaking beautiful! I find these children mystical and magical and they push my creativity to the max. Children are still authentic and not aware of their environment en that makes them wonderful to work with. I've even photographed a few kids from these series for the second time. Along the way I learned a lot about the red hair MCR1-gene and heard many stories and myths. There're even redhead festivals around the world. So I'm not the only admirer of this unique group who wants to celebrate their hair color.

The book
I'm ready to share all of my portraits with the world in a beautiful, exclusive book. Well known book designer Teun van der Heijden made a wonderful design for my red head book. The beginning is surprising! You page through the shades of red and then you view the portraits in a pleasant rhythm. It will be a hardcover linen (printed) book with 104 pages. The size will be 28 x 24,5 cm (11 x 9,65 inches) and there'll only be 500 copies available. Each book will have his own unique number.

Who am I?
I was born and raised in the Netherlands and successfully graduated as a portrait photographer at the Photo Academy in Ámsterdam in 2009. One year later I moved to Colorado (USA) with my family and lived there for 3 years. During this period of time I learned a lot about photography as art and I learned even more about myself. The last few years my portraits have been published, exhibited and rewarded internationally. The portraits from the series Flaming Grace were shown in the Argentina Festival de la Luz XVIII, the Ogden Museum in New Orleans and in the Art of Photography Show in San Diego among other things. Donations
Making a book is very expensive. There is the design, printing, bookbinding, shipping and handling. With the help of your donations I know I'll be able to pay my printer. The money I hope to raise with this crowdfunding is only part of the total costs. The other part I invest myself and hope to earn it back later after the book is printed. When you decide to crowdfund my book your name will be printed in the book and you will get a signed and numbered copy. Only with this crowdfunding my book can come alive, so I hope you're as excited as I am and you're willing to support me.

I chose to work with the Dutch crowdfunding website, because I live in The Netherlands again and there were other advantages in it for me. Not to worry though, it's really easy to support this book from overseas as well. As a supporter you will receive something beautiful in return. Unfortunately I can't reward the portrait session or the picnic with our Unimog to overseas supporters, unless you're willing to pay the costs of my plane ticket of course, but there are many other interesting rewards for you.
