In een voormalige kerk, een culturele plek midden in een woonwijk in Eindhoven, vind je Atelier NL. Wij, Nadine en Lonny, zetten aardse ingrediënten zoals zand en klei in een uniek proces om tot gebruiksmaterialen, waaronder keramiek, verf en glas.

Maar! Na acht jaar dreigen we ‘ONZE kerk’ te moeten verlaten. Huren mag namelijk niet langer en kopen kost veel geld. Help jij ons de Bergmannkerk te behouden?

ATELIER NL
Wie of wat is Atelier NL? Wij zijn Nadine Sterk en Lonny van Ryswyck. In 2006 begonnen we de designstudio, direct na afronding van onze opleiding aan de Design Academy, waar wij nu zelf met veel plezier lesgeven. Het werk van Atelier NL richt zich op passioneel en doorwrocht onderzoek naar en analyse van de aarde, en alles wat deze voortbrengt. Hieruit ontspruiten nieuwe scheppingen, zoals het lokale kleiservies (Clay Service), gemaakt van klei uit verschillende plekken in Nederland, getoond door diverse musea. Dit kleiservies -voorheen geproduceerd door Royal Tichelaar Makkum- wordt binnenkort door de designstudio in eigen huis geproduceerd en geherintroduceerd. Alle projecten van Atelier NL van de afgelopen acht jaar zijn tijdens Dutch Design Week (DDW), van 17 tot en met 25 oktober, voor het eerst gezamenlijk te zien.

VERWONDER JE
De Bergmannkerk vormt het hart van het werk van Atelier NL. In deze voormalige kerk ontstonden niet alleen onze ontwerpen en producten, maar ook sterke samenwerkingsverbanden met de andere gebruikers van de kerk, onder wie fotografen Mike Roelofs, Wouter Kooken en Teun van Beers. Wij stellen onze werkplek open voor designers uit de hele wereld, én voor de buurt om ons heen. De interactie tussen creativiteit en de lokale gemeenschap is essentieel.

Zo rijpte het plan voor Earth Alchemy Factory, waarin design, uitwisseling en productie op organische wijze samensmelten. Een wereld waarin iedereen zich Sjakie in de chocoladefabriek kan wanen. Blikvangers van Earth Alchemy Factory zijn zelfontwikkelde ‘machines’, die het creatieproces van ruw materiaal naar eindproduct van begin tot eind onthullen. Onderga visuele verhalen en exploreer de wereld van pure materialen. Zie hoe je zelf van een homp lokale klei een kopje of bord kunt maken, of hoe een anoniem hoopje zand als bij toverslag in een stuk glas transformeert.

WAT KAN JE VOOR ONS BETEKENEN?
Echter, willen wij op deze prachtige locatie blijven, dan zijn genoodzaakt de Bergmannkerk te kopen. Het is onze hartenwens, maar wij hebben daarvoor niet de middelen. Toch willen we dit gaan proberen. Sowieso willen wij de Earth Alchemy Factory volgend jaar lanceren, uiteraard het liefst op deze fantastische locatie, en het veelgevraagde kleiservies (Clay Service) in eigen huis gaan produceren. Voor dit alles vragen wij jouw warme vertrouwen en broodnodige hulp.

HOE?
In de kerkzaal hangt een tegelwand vol unieke tegels, vervaardigd van stukken klei die we door de jaren heen liefdevol hebben verzameld. Als je een door ons vervaardigde tegel koopt, sta jij niet alleen aan de bron van Earth Alchemy Factory, maar realiseer je samen met ons ook de herintroductie van het Kleiservies van Atelier NL. Bovendien lever je een hoopvolle bijdrage om op deze manier de kerk – ons thuis! – mogelijk te behouden.

Atelier NL is a creative cultural oasis in a residential area of Eindhoven. We, Nadine Sterk and Lonny van Ryswyck, transform raw ingredients - such as sand and clay - into finished products like ceramics, earth paints, and natural glass. For the past eight years, Atelier NL has been rooted in the church that houses our studio. Alas, we may be forced to leave the church and community that we have nurtured for so long. Will you help us to buy the Bergman Church?

What is the story behind Atelier NL? We opened our design studio in 2006 after graduating from the Design Academy, where we now have the pleasure of teaching. Our work is based on the passionate investigative analysis of the earth and all it produces. New creations continuously arise from this process, such as our Clay Service: a set of plates and bowls that showcase clay from different locations throughout the Netherlands. This unique set, which has been featured in museums worldwide, was formerly produced by Tichelaar Makkum. We will soon reintroduce the Clay Service via an entirely new production methodology that merges public participation with process. Come and visit us at Dutch Design Week, from October 17-25, where all of our projects will be viewable together for the first time.

LET US INSPIRE YOU
The Bergman Church lies at the heart of Atelier NL. Our designs and products evolved here - along with close bonds with fellow resident artists, including photographers Mike Roelofs, Wouter Kooken, and Teun van Beers. Our workspace is open to designers from around the world, just as it is open to our neighbors. Our work is community oriented, so creative engagement with our neighborhood is essential.

Over time, our working method has evolved into a system that merges design, exchange, and production. Our upcoming Earth Alchemy Factory will bring this methodology to life in an exciting new way. At the Earth Alchemy Factory, everyone will get a chance to feel like. Charlie in the chocolate factory. Highlights will include self-made ‘machines’ that turn raw materials into finished products and visual stories that reveal what can be made from the earth. We will show our visitors how local clay can be turned into a cup or plate and how a handful of sand can be melted into a beautiful piece of natural glass.

WHAT DO WE NEED?
We now have a limited opportunity to buy the Bergman Church. If we don’t succeed, we will likely lose it altogether. It is our hearts’ desire to make the church our permanent studio home. We cannot pull together the funds in time alone, so we need your support! Your contribution will support the launching of the Earth Alchemy Factory here in the community that has nurtured our practice from the beginning. It will also allow us to begin the first in-house production of our Clay Service. Our work is dear to us and this is a critical time.
