DEBUUT-CD SUCCES

**In 2008 bracht ik mijn eerste CD uit. Deze CD werd in Limburg met open armen ontvangen. Ik won de Prijs voor het Limburgse Lied. Tot op heden ben ik de enige vrouw die deze prijs ooit gewonnen heeft. Ik trad veel op in theaters en andere gelegenheden. Het was heerlijk!

**KOMST VAN ARJE

**Toen Arje in 2009 geboren werd, ging het allemaal niet zoals we gedacht hadden. Hij huilde veel en we moesten steeds naar het ziekenhuis. Na een half jaar werd hij gediagnosticeerd met het Williams-Beuren Syndroom, een chromosomenafwijking die zorgt voor een verstandelijke beperking. Er moest vooral in de eerste drie jaar van zijn leven intensieve zorg geleverd worden. Ik stond ook nog voor de klas, en optreden.... dat ging niet meer. 

Maar, kleine jongens worden groter. Arje groeide, kon eerder gitaar spelen dan lopen, en zijn broertje Loek werd geboren. Arje genoot zo van de gitaar en mijn liedjes... Zou ik dan toch van muziek mijn beroep maken?

**KRACHT VAN MUZIEK

**Ik zei mijn baan als docent Engels op, om mij volledig op muziek maken te storten: Ik schrijf ter plekke of van tevoren liedjes tijdens zorg, onderwijs en andere congressen, bijeenkomsten en symposia. Op het eind heb je een actueel en uniek lied dat ik ook nog voor je opneem.

In een lied kun je beren op de weg bloot leggen zonder af te doen aan gedachten of gevoelens die er zijn. Door muziek kijk je anders, luister je anders en sta je meer open voor de ander.  Net als Arje eigenlijk, die zich door muziek dagelijkse dingen en sociale aspecten eigen maakt.

**INCLUSIE (MEEDOEN)

**Naast muziek is de omgeving waarin Arje zich bevindt ook heel belangrijk voor zijn ontwikkeling. Hij is een begenadigd imitator en kopieert iedereen met veel plezier.

We kozen daarom heel bewust voor de (nog steeds) weinig bewandelde weg van het regulier onderwijs. Zijn klasgenoten spelen met hem, en hij speelt met hen. En daar leert iedereen weer van.

Arje mag er zijn.

Net als alle andere kinderen die door hun beperking niet vanzelfsprekend mee kunnen doen op school, in een vereniging of bij het spelen in de buurt.

**OVER DE CD

**Op de CD zing ik in het Nederlands met een knipoog naar het Limburgs en het Engels. Het zijn luisterliedjes die zorgen voor kippenvel, ontroering en inspiratie.

**ENGLISH VERSION

The world is more beautiful if we’re able to express what makes each and every one of us exceptional. This is the message my new CD will be about. Will you help me make this possible?

When Arje was born in 2009, being his mom wasn’t very easy. I spent a lot of time in the hospital: he cried a lot and never seemed to sleep. After 6 months, he was diagnosed with Williams Syndrome. In the first three years of his life, he needed intensive care. I was working as a teacher at the time and with Arje at home, I didn’t have any energy left for my biggest hobby: singing and performing.

As Arje grew up, he could play the guitar earlier than he could walk, and then his little brother Loek was born. Arje enjoyed the guitar and my songs... Would it be possible to pick up singing again, and make it a real job?

I quit teaching and threw myself into making music. I began writing songs during gatherings about education, care and other social topics. Yes... during... so at the end the audience always has a unique song! In a song I can mention issues without ignoring thoughts or feelings.

Music makes people listen differently.

Music helps people to be more open to others.

Just as Arje, actually, who learns to do daily tasks and social aspects through music.

In the Netherlands, where we live, it’s not very common for children with a disability to get to go to the regular schools. Arje has a gift for imitating others and we hoped that the regular school system would help him learn faster, rather than a special school for children with disabilities. It took us a year to find a regular school that was up for this challenge. And now... his classmates play with him and he plays with them. And the best part is: everybody learns!

I’m very proud that the Dutch organization SENA funded part of this CD. But I still need 4000 euros to be able to bring this CD to life. The CD will contain songs in Dutch and English, depending on which language fits each song best!

I started my crowdfunding project on a Dutch website, similar to Kickstarter. I’d never thought about the idea that people from outside the Netherlands would be interested in donating too.  Then a very good (American) friend asked me to write this message in English, so she could ask her family and friends to donate as well. It is possible to put in a donation from abroad on this Dutch website. It’s the most frequently used crowdfunding website in the Netherlands and it has a secure payment system.
