Het verhaal | The story

Wij maken een documentaire over journalisten die bedreigd zijn/worden. Mensen die de angst hebben om vermoord te worden en daarnaast in verschillende gevallen fysiek mishandeld of via sociale media bedreigd worden.

Wat is de impact van zulke bedreigingen op hun persoonlijke leven? Hoe gaan zij om met de mogelijke gevaren? En wat weerhoudt hen ervan te stoppen? In de documentaire ‘Wat Is Het Waard?’ vertellen wij de verhalen van journalisten die bedreigd zijn. Journalisten die ondanks alles niet zijn gezwicht voor angst, pijn en verdriet.

English: We are making a documentary about journalists who have been/are being threatened. People who fear being murdered and who are also, in several cases, physically abused or threatened via social media.

What is the impact of such threats on their personal lives? How do they deal with the possible dangers? And what keeps them from quitting? In the documentary 'Wat Is Het Waard?' we tell the stories of journalists who have been threatened. Journalists who, despite everything, have not succumbed to fear, pain and sadness.

Wij zijn wij? | Who are we?

Wij zijn Max Vessies en Gonzalo Ochoa, twee beginnende filmmakers met een doel. Het vertellen van verhalen en het aankaarten van maatschappelijke problemen. Max Vessies studeert journalistiek aan de Hogeschool Utrecht. De Spaanse Gonzalo Ochoa studeert audiovisuele communicatie in Madrid. Samen produceren en regisseren zij deze documentaire. Dit project is ontstaan op de Hogeschool Utrecht binnen de minor CampusDoc.

English: We are Max Vessies and Gonzalo Ochoa, two aspiring filmmakers with a purpose. Telling stories and addressing social problems. Max Vessies studies journalism at Utrecht University. The Spanish Gonzalo Ochoa studies audiovisual communication in Madrid. Together they produce and direct this documentary. This project originated at Utrecht University within the minor CampusDoc.

Wat hebben wij nodig? | What do we need?

Om de documentaire te kunnen maken hebben wij 6500 euro nodig. Dit bedrag is opgebouwd uit camera-, licht-, geluid- en studiohuur. Daarnaast hebben wij een professioneel team voor de opnames van de documentaire, ook zij moeten betaald worden. Alleen met jullie hulp kunnen wij dit probleem onder de aandacht brengen.

English: To make the documentary we need 6,500 euros. This amount consists of camera, light, sound and studio rental. We also have a professional team for the recording of the documentary, they also have to be paid. Only with your help can we bring this problem to your attention.

De première | The premiere

‘Wat Is Het Waard?’ gaat in juni 2024 in première en zal te zien zijn op het CampusDoc filmfestival in het Louis Hartlooper Complex te Utrecht. In navolging van andere succesvolle CampusDoc documentaires is het onze ambitie om de film te vertonen op 2Doc en andere filmfestivals.

English: 'Wat Is Het Waard?' will premiere in June 2024 and will be shown at the CampusDoc film festival in the Louis Hartlooper Complex in Utrecht. Following other successful CampusDoc documentaries, our ambition is to show the film at 2Doc and other film festivals.
