G'day mate!
Let me ask you a question. What do you get when you pit the military against a flock of flightless birds?
The military loses. Let us show you.
In 1932, an operation like no other took place in Australia, where soldiers armed with machine guns went to war against the emus. It was a complete washout for the humans, but I bet the emus were doing a little dance of victory. Whatever, victors are overrated.
Now, ten years later, a new Emu War is around the corner. The stakes are higher, hope is soaring, and the thrill is off the charts. Grab your instant coffee, we're filming round two.
Why were the guns not enough?
Having been unable to interview the defeaters — for obvious reasons — we had to settle with the defeated. After much searching through records, contacts, press releases, we finally found our war stars:
Private Fredrick , who was sent by his therapist on a rematch with the emus.
General Jax , whose service medals couldn't save her husband from the emus; but she's not one to forget.
Finally, Peter , farm boy by day, pushover by night.
Unfortunately Australia is very, very far away from Europe. Did you actually think we would film there? It turns out it's cheaper to bring Australia here than it is to travel there.
So, we decided to stay put. I mean, come on. We're students, our currency is passion . This short movie is our grand project , and when the time comes for movie festival nominations, it will hopefully make the critics proud — and I don't just mean our mommas. Don't worry, it's not our first time holding a camera. We know our way around film production , from scratching up the first ideas, to turning them into full-fledged movies.
And by motion pictures, we mean, of course, a mockumentary. You know, if David Attenborough followed the hobbits with a camera as they prepared to embark for the Mount of Doom.
Why do we want to film this, you may ask?
Because we love mockumentaries. It's that simple.
Now. We tried paying for the equipment in passion, but shockingly it didn't work. Offered to exchange it for props and costumes, doors shut in our face.
Transportation? Grit couldn't get us rolling on the road. Filming requires real money.
This is why we need your support . While we were planning our budget, we came upon the perfect location where it turns out you do find emus in the wild in Europe!
So, money is the only thing holding us back . And the truck. We really need a truck.

See what the director has to say
''In 1932 Australia, a young and brave documentary crew decides to travel to Australia to capture the historical event: The Great Emu War . This mockumentary follows three soldiers with very different goals and stakes who bonded to fight with the enemy. But is it an enemy?
My strategy in life is to use humor to deal with everything. The world is full of stupidity and struggles, so we can use laughter to ease the pain. We need that….we need that to survive. And this part of human history is something we need to laugh about. It's too stupid.
The style of a mockumentary is just fun in itself. The weird reality it creates makes it so entertaining. And the best part is that it's not cinematic at all. Bright scenes, goofy camera movements, and crash zooms make sure the audience doesn't get bored. And the testimonials... They add so much. They're an amazing tool to create a storyline and add different perspectives.
This project is really about learning to laugh at ourselves. We're not perfect, and we do stupid things. Let's face that together! ''
