BOEKIE WOEKIE & FRIENDS
Manifestation in Arti et Amicitae, Amsterdam
Ever wondered what artists' books are about and what fun and joy they are to the inquisitive mind? Please support us in realizing the unique manifestation ‘Boekie Woekie and Friends ’in Arti et Amicitiae. Artist books, installations, readings & performances!
Why this event?
Boekie Woekie, the internationally acclaimed iconic artists' bookstore, nestled in Amsterdam's popular area ‘De Negen Straatjes’ (‘Nine Small Streets’), faces relocation due to soaring retail rents.
As the familiar door of Boekie Woekie closes, its treasures find a new home in the grand exhibition space of Arti et Amicitiae, an artist’s society founded in 1839.
From Jan. 12 until Feb. 23 in 2024 Arti et Amicitiae
transforms into a mega Boekie Woekie show and a haven of creativity; an art manifestation featuring the renowned Boekie Woekie collection, the Boekiewoekies themselves and members of its vibrant community.

Throughout the exhibition’s period, anticipate a plethora of intriguing events, including a grand opening, performances, lectures and a memorable Bookieball Finissage.
Step into the VR time capsule and immerse yourself in this miraculous artistic legacy. It will be a fantastic ride into the Great Wide Open of Artist’s Books – whatever it is you wouldn’t have dared to imagine, you’ll find at Boekie Woekie & Friends.
The collective will be present during the whole period and the young artist Krtistján Thorlacius. Finnsson will produce a book a day (in-situ with guests and visitors).
Financial support needed!
Though generously supported by the Amsterdam Fund for the Arts, the overwhelming response from international artists- performers for participation in the Fringe Program, and more technical support and transport cost required as calculated, necessitates additional financial support.
Why support us?
Boekie Woekie is not just a bookstore; it is a cultural hub, for local and Icelandic artists. They nurtured local artists and creativity for years. By supporting this exhibition, you’ll help inspire and support future generations of artists and provide art and book lovers with new and stimulating insights. Your donation enables the organizers to host these events, giving artists a platform to showcase their talents and ideas to a wider audience and to make it work technically.
We invite you to play a pivotal role in shaping our program and extend a warm invitation to witness the wonders hidden within Boekie Woekie's living sculpture.
Your participation will make this celebration complete. Stay tuned for updates!
