Janela di Samudra, is a musical project that brings together sounds of different cultures located around the same ocean, the Indian Ocean. Janela in Portuguese means window, and Samudra in Sanskrit or Bahasa Indonesia means ocean.
With this project, they open the window of imagination, an imagination enhanced by sound resonances. As earthlings, we think of solid ground and fixed boundaries, but in the water these boundaries are washed away by sand and waves. Janela di Samudra invites you to leave the solid ground behind and dip your feet into the waves, and join the journey around the sound of the Indian Ocean connection.
In early 2023, Leonard Batuki Gaab and Bintang Manira Manik formed the duo Janela di Samudra, and have already been able to perform a number of concerts. Now they have been invited to the Festival Raiz artist residency in Maputo where they will have the opportunity to re-contextualize traditional music and co-create new music - amid great artists from Mozambique, Eswatini, South Africa and others. For this project they need support, and hope with the crowdfunding platform on voordekunst they can take their project outside their own circles. But also to be able to take other people along on their physical journey, for which afterwards they can bring it back to the Netherlands to offer an even richer experience to listeners.

By donating you can receive your ticket for Mozambique Voyage Story Concert on the 28th of July in the Sun Studio in Rotterdam.
