Ik ben Seppe Vancraywinkel en mijn project “Within the bubble of Surroundings” is hier in Hoegaarden, een klein dorpje in Vlaanderen, ontstaan.

Zo’n zeven jaar geleden begon ik mijn vrienden te fotograferen tijdens onze alledaagse avonturen, geïnspireerd door de natuurlijke omgeving en intimiteit die we met elkaar deelden. Dit werk is door de jaren heen uitgegroeid tot een grote collectie aan beeldmateriaal waarin je ons ziet opgroeien en volwassen worden, maar op een eigenwijze, speelse manier.

“Within the bubble of surroundings” is een gevoelsmatig project, dat een unieke vriendschap portretteert waarin maatschappelijke verwachtingen en polariteiten aan diggelen worden geslagen - of geknuffeld, dat ook soms.

Ik fotografeer alles analoog in zwart wit.
Het geeft de vluchtigheid en snelheid van de momentopnames een permanentie en tijdloosheid, waardoor ze gekoesterd kunnen worden.
Bovendien herbeleef en herontdek ik mijn beelden tijdens het ontwikkelen en vergroten in de donkere kamer, wat vaak voor nieuwe en interessante inzichten zorgt bij het maken van selecties.

Al dit werk van de afgelopen 7 jaar wil ik nu laten samen komen in een fotoboek.

En hiervoor heb ik jouw hulp nodig!

I am Seppe Vancraywinkel and my project "Within the bubble of Surroundings" was born here in Hoegaarden, a small village in Flanders.

About seven years ago, I started photographing my friends during our everyday adventures, inspired by the natural surroundings and intimacy we shared with each other.
This work has grown over the years into a large collection of footage in which you see us growing up and coming of age, but in a quirky, playful way.

"Within the bubble of surroundings" is an emotive project, portraying a unique friendship in which societal expectations and polarities are shattered - or hugged, sometimes that too.

I shoot everything analogue in black and white.
It gives the fleetingness and speed of snapshots a permanence and timelessness, allowing them to be cherished.
Moreover, I relive and rediscover my images while developing and enlarging them in the darkroom, which often provides new and interesting insights when making selections.
All this work of the past seven years I now want to bring together in a photo book.

And for this, I need your help!

Publisher The Eriskay Connection and I have arrived at a very nice book design and cannot wait to share it with the rest of the world in September.

Book launch

The book launch will take place at PONTI Space, Antwerp on September 21.
You have the option to pick up your copy there until October 14.
