Uncommon Ground Festival

We are the third year students of Musician 3.0.
After three years of learning and exploring, we are ready to organize Uncommon Ground, a festival to showcase our art and connect with the community around us.

What is Uncommon Ground?

Uncommon Ground is a yearly interdisciplinary music, performance, and art festival.
At this festival, you will experience seventeen unique performances and expositions, ranging from small and intimate to larger than life and absurdist, from poetry to metal, from oil paintings to multimedia installations: let us take you on a journey full of surprises and inspiration.
Of course, this will not be the only activity at Uncommon Ground: there will be opportunities to sample the local (vegan) cuisine, to connect with other creatives, go on an artistic speed date, relax with ambient sounds in the chill area, and buy unique art from local artists.

This year Uncommon Ground will be hosted at De Vrijstaat in Utrecht, an old farm turned into a local community center for art and culture.

Who are we?

In Musician 3.0, a course at the HKU where the main subject is ‘creating’, we learn to look beyond the boundaries of disciplines, and are encouraged to think and create outside the box. Our focus lies on performance, experimentation, and improvisation, with a basis in music. We want to break the boundaries between audience and artist, between artist and art. During this process, we work together with students from many other departments and disciplines, and are encouraged to be connectors and leaders.

What happens to the money?

But of course, to make this dream come true, we need your help.
The crowdfunded money will be used for:
- Backline rental (for sound systems and amplifiers, etc.)
- Catering
- Decoration
- Marketing
- Staff, such as sound/light engineers
- Transportation

We aim to make Uncommon Ground as accessible as possible. We will provide clear directions on wheelchair accessibility, create low-stimuli spaces to calm down and rest, and provide gender neutral bathrooms. We will also have an awareness team walking around to make sure the space is safe and comfortable for everyone.

Wij zijn de derdejaarsstudenten van Musician 3.0.
Na drie jaren vol leren en ontdekken zijn we klaar voor het organiseren van Uncommon Ground, een festival waar we onze kunst tonen en ons met de gemeenschap om ons heen verbinden.

Wat is Uncommon Ground?

Uncommon Ground is een jaarlijks interdisciplinair muziek-, performance- en kunstfestival.
Op dit festival zul je zeventien unieke optredens en exposities ervaren, van intiem en kleinschalig tot groots en absurdistisch, van poëzie tot metal, van olieverfschilderijen tot multimedia-installaties: laat je meenemen op een verrassende en inspirerende reis.
Maar Uncommon Ground biedt nog veel meer: proef van de lokale (veganistische) keuken, maak verbinding met andere creatievelingen, ga op een artistieke speeddate, ontspan met ambientgeluiden in de chill area en koop unieke kunstwerken van lokale artiesten.

Dit jaar vindt Uncommon Ground plaats bij De Vrijstaat in Utrecht, een oude boerderij die is omgetoverd tot een lokaal gemeenschapscentrum voor kunst en cultuur.

Wie zijn wij?

Binnen Musician 3.0, een opleiding aan de HKU waar 'creëren' centraal staat, leren we verder te kijken dan de grenzen van disciplines en worden we gestimuleerd om buiten de gebaande paden te denken en te creëren. Onze focus ligt op performance, experimenteren en improvisatie, met muziek als basis. We willen de grenzen tussen publiek en artiest, tussen artiest en kunst doorbreken. Tijdens dit proces werken we samen met studenten van verschillende afdelingen en disciplines en worden we gestimuleerd om verbinders en leiders te zijn.

Waar gaat het geld naartoe?

Maar natuurlijk hebben we jouw hulp nodig om deze droom werkelijkheid te maken.
Het geld dat we via de crowdfunding ophalen, wordt gebruikt voor:
- Het huren van backline (PA, versterkers, etc.)
- Catering
- Decoratie
- Marketing
- Personeel, zoals geluids- en lichttechnici
- Vervoer

We streven ernaar om Uncommon Ground zo toegankelijk mogelijk te maken. We zorgen voor duidelijke aanwijzingen voor rolstoeltoegankelijkheid, bieden rustige ruimtes om te ontspannen en tot rust te komen, en hebben genderneutrale toiletten. Daarnaast is er een team aanwezig om ervoor te zorgen dat iedereen zich veilig en comfortabel voelt.
