Als ik er niet meer ben…

wil ik voor altijd herinnerd worden. Dat we eindig leven, maakt ook dat we écht kunnen leven. Vanuit ons hart en onze ziel, soms stil, soms luid, soms hoog, soms laag en liefst ook ergens tussenin. Een leven zo kostbaar en toch fragiel.

‘When I’m Gone’…

is een verhaal over liefde en hoop. Een documentaire over dat ene kostbare leven. Een leven doorspekt met verwachtingen. Een leven waar we alles moeten uithalen in een maatschappij vol druk en prestatiedrang. Maar wat betekent dat allemaal in the end? Hoe kijken we in die laatste momenten terug op de verwachtingen van dat beloftevolle leven? Zien we de zaken op dat moment meer helder dan ooit of worden onze herinneringen gekleurd door spijt? Te veel van dit, te weinig van dat. Kijken we als een vat vol liefde terug op ons leven of waren er toch dingen die we liever eerder hadden geweten? Wat gaf zin aan dat leven en wat deed er écht toe?

‘When I’m Gone’ schetst een prachtige blik op het leven door de ogen van een groep mensen die niet altijd de aandacht krijgen die ze verdienen. Een verhaal van afscheid en herkenbaarheid, als een warm deken om je in te nestelen op moeilijke én mooie dagen. Een unieke documentaire met het leven als schouwspel.

Het Veerhuis…

Het Veerhuis zorgt voor zorg en warmte in die laatste dagen. Een ‘bijna-thuis-huis’ waar mensen een waardig einde krijgen. Een plek waar stilstaan belangrijker is dan vooruitgaan. Een tussenstop op weg naar de overkant waar op een unieke en persoonlijke manier wordt omgegaan met mensen. Waar met hart en ziel en met een grote portie liefde, écht gezorgd wordt voor een ander.

Verhalen vertellen…

van mensen, échte mensen. Zonder het ruwe kantje van het leven uit het oog te verliezen.

Dat is mijn grootste sterkte. Mijn passie.

Al iets meer dan tien jaar werk ik als freelance regisseur en eindredacteur bij productiehuizen, tv-zenders en radiozenders en maak ik zelf documentaires en webreeksen van a-z. Dit wordt een zeer persoonlijke documentaire waarin ik nauw samenwerk met de hospice. Met heel veel respect, met de lichtheid van een veertje en met dezelfde normen en waarden. In deze documentaire kruipt heel veel tijd. Van research tot het opzetten van een mooie samenwerking met de medewerkers van Het Veerhuis, een vertrouwensband creëeren en intense gesprekken voeren met personages en familieleden. Naast al het voorbereidend werk, zal het filmen op het tempo van de personages en Het Veerhuis zelf gebeuren. Met alle respect en ruimte.

Om hiervoor de nodige tijd te kunnen kopen, apparatuur aan te schaffen en reiskosten te dekken, hoop ik jou te kunnen overtuigen om mee deze documentaire waar te maken. Daarnaast wordt het geld ook gebruikt voor de postproductie om tot een prachtig eindresultaat te komen. When I’m Gone…

I want to be remembered forever. The fact that are lives aren’t infinite, means that we can really live. From our hearts and souls, sometimes quiet, loud, high and low but preferably somewhere in between. A life so precious and fragile.

When I’m Gone is a story about love and hope. A documentary about that one precious life. A life filled with expectations, where a performance driven society pressures us into getting the most of out it.

But what does that all mean in the end? How do we look back at those moments? How do we look back at the expectations that each one of us has about that life? Do we see things more clear than ever or are we filled with regret? Too much of this, not enough of this. Do we look back filled with love? Or are there things we kinda wished to have known sooner.
What gave meaning to our lives and what really mattered?

When I’m Gone offers a beautiful take on our lives through the eyes of people that we don’t often hear. It’s a heartwarming and relatable story about goodbyes, a warm blanket for the soul in good days and in bad. A unique documentary with life in its purest form as a topic.

Het Veerhuis…

is the hospice I will be working with. A place that’s all about ‘caring for’ and bringing warmth in those last days. A home where people get the ending they deserve, an 'almost-back-home' home, one last final stop on their way to the other side. Where they’re being cared for in a unique and very personal way. Where people really care for someone else, from their hearts and souls and with a big pile of love.

Telling stories that matter...

Stories about people, real people. That's my biggest skill. My passion.

For over ten years, I’ve been working as a freelance director and editor-in-chief for production companies, tv and radio stations and making documentaries and web series myself. This will be a very personal documentary in which I work closely with the hospice. With the uttermost respect, the lightness of a feather and the same values. Telling the most unique story in the most profound way, that’s what I stand for. I hope my Vimeo, website or LinkedIn will inspire you.

Because your help...

gives me creative space. There’s a lot of time and effort needed for this documentary. From research to talking to and really connecting with everyone at Het Veerhuis.
