SHŌKI: the true heart, spirit and consciousness of one's being.

We, Abigail, Lola, Salima and Shakira want to take you on a guided journey into intuitive art. Our intention is to inspire you to connect back to the creator & creative that resides within all of us.

Our first edition will take place on the 5th of February at Sissi’s Expo-Resto, Amsterdam.
It revolves around an intimate 3-course dinner that leads 45 guests into an exploration of tastes and senses.

ABOUT THE EVENT

For our first edition we are focussing on the concept of shedding layers. Together, we are shedding layers - art forms after art forms - dinner courses after dinner courses - to find out what's left at the heart of SHŌKI.

We aim to stir new emotions and dissolve your conditioned senses through art. Do you feel inspired or conflicted? We hope to see you express those feelings. In which way or form, would you birth them into life? What would you do if your inner critic was shut quiet?

We hope to tickle these parts of you.

You will experience art, conceptual fashion, ambient electronic music, poetry and more.
Feeling a coherency of the arts revealing the same storyline.

SHŌKI: het ware hart, ziel en bewustzijn van iemands wezen.

Wij, Abigail, Lola, Salima en Shakira willen jullie meenemen op een begeleide reis van intuïtieve kunst. Onze intentie is om je te inspireren weer terug te komen bij de maker en creatieveling die in ons allemaal zit.

Onze eerste editie zal plaatsvinden op 5 februari bij Sissi’s Expo-Resto, Amsterdam. Het zal gaan om een intiem 3-gangen diner dat 45 gasten zal leiden door een verkenning van smaken en sensaties.

OVER HET EVENEMENT

Voor onze eerste editie richten we ons op het concept van het afwerpen van lagen. Samen werpen we lagen af - kunst vorm na kunst vorm - gerecht na gerecht - om erachter te komen wat er achter het hart van SHŌKI ligt.

Wij willen nieuwe emoties opwekken en je geconditioneerde zintuigen oplossen door middel van kunst. Voel je je geïnspireerd of tegenstrijdig? We willen zien hoe je deze gevoelens wil uiten. Op welke manier zou je het in leven te brengen? Wat zou je doen wanneer jouw innerlijke criticus zich stil hield?

We hopen dit deel van jou te prikkelen.

Je zult kunst ervaren, conceptuele mode, ambient elektronische muziek, poëzie en meer. Zo hopen we een van coherentie van kunsten over te brengen.

Hi all, my name is Sal and I’m a Law student, born & raised in the beautiful city of Amsterdam. Two things that really make my heart beat faster are art and cooking (also just creating in general I’d say!). I quite recently fell in love with cooking; the magic of combining, balancing and experimenting with beautiful ingredients. I want to blur the line between art and cooking; since I consider it to be the same. It’s all about playing, trying new things, being creative and working from instinct and intuition: Something we often forget to do, because we’re too focused on what other might want to see from us. While realizing how expectations and prejudices often shape us, we came up with SHŌKI. With this project, I’m letting go of this and throwing myself in the deep with other people that are deeply passionate about the stuff they create. Showing our true character and leading from instinct and openness is what SHŌKI is all about.

Hi allemaal, mijn naam is Sal en ik ben een student Rechtsgeleerdheid, geboren en getogen in Amsterdam. Twee dingen die mijn hart sneller laten kloppen zijn koken en kunst (creëren in het algemeen eigenlijk!). Ik ben recentelijk verliefd geworden op koken; de magie van prachtige ingrediënten combineren, balanceren en ermee experimenten. Ik wil de grens tussen kunst en koken vervagen, want ik geloof dat het hetzelfde is. Het draait om spelen, nieuwe dingen proberen, creatief zijn en je instinct en intuïtie volgen: iets wat we vaak vergeten omdat we te gefocust zijn op wat anderen van ons willen zien. Terwijl we ons realiseerde hoe we gevormd worden door vooroordelen en verwachtingen, kwamen we op SHŌKI. Met dit project gooi ik mezelf in het diepe met andere mensen die diep gepassioneerd zijn in wat ze maken. Onze ware aard laten zien en ons eigen authentieke licht schijnen is waar SHŌKI om draait.

Hi there, my name is Lola. I was born in France but I've lived in many countries. I fell in love with Amsterdam and I call it home for the past eight years. I came here to study and graduated in both International Business and Fashion Design. During my study, I specialised in marketing & communication, natural dye of fabrics (see picture) and I became a maker for the sustainable brand Atelier Felie. I am now working on developing my own label House of Papaya, which has various creative outlets: events staging, workshops and experiences, and sustainable fashion capsule collections.
In short, I love wearing many hats and using art as a way of expressing myself and sharing with others. SHŌKI presented itself as the perfect platform to dive into costume wear for performances and develop an entire evening-length experience. It brings everything I love and am passionate about together. I hope it will spark inspiration, joy and emotions in its participants - and maybe even entice them to create ;)

Hi daar, mijn naam is Lola. Ik ben geboren in Frankrijk, maar heb in veel landen gewoond. Ik werd verliefd op Amsterdam en noem het de afgelopen 8 jaar mijn thuis. Ik kwam hier om te studeren en ben afgestuurd in beide International Business en Fashion Design. Tijdens mijn studie specialiseerde ik in marketing en communicatie, natuurlijke kleuren van stoffen (zie foto). Ik werd een maker voor het duurzame merk Atelier Felie. Nu werk ik aan de ontwikkeling van mijn eigen label House of Papaya, dat verschillende creatieve mogelijkheden biedt: event staging, workshops en ervaringen, duurzame mode in capsule collecties.
In het kort: Ik houd van veel hoeden dragen en kunst gebruiken als een manier van mijzelf te uiten en te delen met anderen. SHŌKI presenteert zichzelf als het perfecte platform om te duiken in op maat gemaakte kleding voor optredens en het ontwikkelen van een hele avond-lengte ervaring. Het brengt alles samen waarvan ik houd en gepassioneerd over ben. Ik hoop inspiratie los te krijgen, vreugde en emoties van de deelnemers - en misschien hen verleiden iet te creëren ;)

Hi, I am Shakira and I’m half Swiss and half Namibian. I moved to Amsterdam to study Fashion and Textile Design. At first, it was a struggle for me to decide to study Fashion & Textile Design - as the fashion industry can clash with my value system regarding mass production e.t.c. Then, I realised I can also use art as a medium to convey a message that really means something to me. I love creating and diving into a concept to make it a piece of art. This makes my heart come alive. Being able to share this with others, is even more satisfying. Art is like meditation to me. It’s my happy and calm place. After my studies, I started working as a maker at Atelier Felie, which is a sustainable fashion brand in Amsterdam. Thereafter, I started building a fashion brand with Lola called House of Papaya. Now, I'm looking to dive into more conceptual/experimental projects. Starting with SHŌKI.

Hi, Ik ben Shakira en ik ben half Zwitsers en half Namibisch. Ik ben naar Amsterdam verhuisd om Fashion and Textile Design te studeren. De keuze om dit te studeren was eerst een worsteling voor mij, omdat de mode industrie kan botsen met mijn waarde systeem met betrekking tot massaproductie enz. Toen realiseerde ik mij dat ik ook kunst kan gebruiken als medium om de boodschap dat veel voor mij betekent mee te brengen. Ik houd van creëren en om te duiken in een concept om een kunstwerk te maken. Dit ademt leven in mijn hart. Om dit te delen met anderen is nog bevredigender. Kunst is een soort meditatie voor mij. Het is mijn blije en kalme plek.

Na mijn studie ben ik als designer gaan werken bij Atelier Felie, een duurzaam modemerk in Amsterdam. Daarna begon ik samen met Lola een modemerk op te bouwen genaamd House of Papaya. Nu ben ik op zoek naar meer conceptuele/experimentele projecten. Te beginnen met SHŌKI.

Hello, I am Abi. Through my move to Amsterdam last year, I came to a refound trust and ambition within myself that moved me to stop my studies and to completely surrender to my passion. That big passion being melodic and organic deep house - producing electronic music is exactly what I want to do for the rest of my life. Mastering dj'ing and instruments (piano I play and started with bass guitar :) to evolve my music productions to deeper and more complex levels is one of my life missions. Also, writing poetry & stories and spreading any messages of love make my heart burn the most. SHŌKI combines my passions and gifts me a loving environment with 3 other passionate women to triumph our fears together. SHŌKI gifts artists a platform and gifts guests beautiful experiences. In my eyes: a dream!

Hallo, ik ben Abi. Door mijn verhuizing naar Amsterdam vorig jaar kwam ik tot een hervonde vertrouwen en ambitie in mezelf dat mij bewoog te stoppen met mijn studie en mij compleet over te geven aan mijn passie. Die grote passie is melodische en organische deep house - het produceren van elektronische muziek is precies wat ik wil doen voor de rest van mijn leven. Het beheersen van dj'en instrumenten (piano speel ik en net begonnen met basgitaar :) om mijn muziek producties te evolueren naar diepere en complexere niveaus zie ik als één mijn levensmissies. Ook schrijven van poëzie & verhalen en het verspreiden van berichten van liefde laten mijn hart het meest branden. SHŌKI combineert mijn passies en schenkt mij een liefdevolle omgeving met 3 andere gepassioneerde vrouwen om samen onze angsten te overwinnen. SHŌKI schenkt kunstenaars een platform en schenkt gasten een mooie ervaring. In mijn ogen: een droom!

In our imagination, SHŌKI is a flourishing platform for artists to combine their forces and share the loving message of creativity. We need your help to physically bring SHŌKI to life!

Through funds, we will be able to cover the costs of our first event:
-The organic ingredients for the 3-course dinner
-Promotion plan including posters and more
-Material costs for the arts (shipping and production costs, fabric for garments, dinner props)
-Location costs (deposit, appliances rent, cleaning)
-Costs for the staff
-We will also be able to establish SHŌKI as a brand using various marketing materials & tools.
-Last but not least, the money will be used to provide participating artists with a fee.

The funds are a first kick-off to launch our project. In the next editions, we aim to be a self-sufficient project that takes place in various creative spaces.
