Dag lieve mensen, wij zijn ARJA HOP en PETER SVENSON, sinds 2015 werken wij als kunstenaarsduo samen aan analoog fotografische onderszoeksprojecten waarin we de natuur en met name de plantenwereld een stem willen geven. In het voorjaar van 2015 begonnen we aan het Felwa project wat wij nu willen samenbundelen in een boek!

HET PROJECT
Het fotoboek Felwa is een kroniek van overgangen die een essentiële paradox van de natuur onderzoekt, namelijk dat verandering de enige constante is. Gestructureerd als rimpelingen in een poel begint het boek met een terugblik op het verleden kijkend naar onze emotionele relatie met de wereld en eindigt het met het verleden vanuit een wetenschappelijk of natuurlijk historisch oogpunt, daar tussen bevinden zich registraties van het heden en een vraag aan de toekomst.
Het boek bevat een analoog fotografisch verslag in delen waar een specifieke omgeving zoals het erf in relatie tot een mensenleven, het grasland in een re-wildingproces van agrarisch land naar natuurgebied, de beek als oerader, het bos waar nog oude verhalen ronddwalen, de grafheuvels die verwijzen naar millenia menselijke acrtiviteit en de eeuwenoude habitat van de vegetatie. in beeld en taal samenkomen.
Als leidmotief door de publicatie heen staan geëxtraheerde plantenkleurstoffen ofwel Florachromes, en hun namen, ontleend aan planten die groeien in betreffende locaties en die een link leggen tussen de verschillende tijdzones.
Het poëtische karakter wordt benadrukt door de zes essays van schrijvers: Lucette ter Borg, schrijver, essayist, Thomas Schirmböck, kunsthistoricus, curator fotografie en gerelateerde kunst, Nina Svenson, kunsthistoricus gespecialiseerd in fotografie, Bill Barnes, Professor of Photonics, Norbert Peeters, botanist, filosoof, onderzoeker, Robert van Altena: kunstkriticus, oprichter Springvossen. Voorwoord Alexander Ramselaar, eigenaar Backing Grounds.

De grafisch vormgever is Edwin van Gelder / Mainstudio, de uitgeverij Jap Sam Books en de drukkerij Wilco Art Books.

DOEL DONATIE
Het bedrag dat wij via Voordekunst hopen op te halen zal gebruikt worden om een deel van de lithografie en drukkosten van het boek te dekken en vier van de schrijvers te bekostigen, (voor het andere deel van de kosten onvingen wij een bijdrage van het Mondriaanfonds, Jaap Hartenfonds en Stichting Stokroos).

BOEKPRESENTATIES
Het boek Felwa zal eind september 2023 gelanceerd worden in combinatie met een compacte presentatie met randprogramma in Huis Marseille Museum voor Fotografie in Amsterdam en daarna op nog nader te bepalen locaties!

Hello dear people, we are ARJA HOP and PETER SVENSON who since 2015 have been working together as an artist duo on analogue photographic research projects through which we want to give a voice to nature and especially the plant world. In spring 2015, we started working on the Felwa project which we now want to compile in book form!

Felwa (*), faded, pale yellow, similar to the colour of the earth.

THE PROJECT
The photo-book Felwa is a chronicle of transitions that explore an essential paradox of nature, namely that change is the only constant. Structured like ripples in a pool, the book begins with references to the past examining our ancient emotional relationship with the world in terms of mythology and belief and ends with the scientific data based view we have today. Within these parameters we explore relationships to place ranging from the 10,000 years of human habitation to one summer during which everything changed

The book contains an analogue photographic record in sections where a specific environment such as the farmyard in relation to a human life, the grassland in a re-wilding process from agricultural land to nature reserve, the brook as a primal vein, the forest where old stories still wander, the burial mounds that refer to millennia of human activity and the age-old habitat of vegetation. come together in image and language.
As a leitmotif throughout the publication are extracted plant dyes, or Florachromes, and their names, taken from plants growing in relevant locations and linking different time zones.
The poetic nature is emphasised by the six essays, the essayists are : Lucette ter Borg, writer,Thomas Schirmböck, art historian, Nina Svenson, art historian, Bill Barnes, Professor of Photonics, Norbert Peeters, botanist, philosopher, Robert van Altena: art critic, Foreword Alexander Ramselaar, art-collector.

The graphic designer is Edwin van Gelder / Mainstudio, the publisher Jap Sam Books and the printer Wilco Art Books.

PURPOSE DONATION
The amount we hope to raise through Voordekunst will be used to cover part of the lithography and printing costs of the book and to pay for four of the authors, (for the other part of the costs, we received a contribution from the Mondriaan Fund, Jaap Harten Fund and Stokroos Foundation).
