Ik wil met mijn band Timbazo een nieuw album opnemen in Rotterdam.

Was het eerste album nog een uitgebreide hommage aan salsa-grootheid Joe Cuba, bracht het tweede album een combinatie van originele composities en versies van ‘Cuban Classics’ à la Timbazo.

Op het nieuwe album zullen alleen nieuwe composities en arrangementen te horen zijn, die nooit eerder zijn uitgekomen! Deze campagne is bedoeld om de kosten van de studio opnames, de mix en mastering te dekken.

Waar gaat het project over?
Latin bands buiten Cuba, Colombia, Puerto Rico, Venezuela nemen vaak bewerkingen van reeds bekend materiaal op. Timbazo is ooit ook zo begonnen en het was superleuk om te doen - maar wij slaan nu een andere weg in met een album dat 100% nieuwe muziek bevat, gearrangeerd en gecomponeerd à la Timbazo! Het is een Rotterdamse productie - waar ook de opnames plaats vinden - met wat extra sessies door gastmusici in Havana en Liechtenstein ;)

Hoe kwam het allemaal?
Ik werkte al zo vele jaren in uiteenlopende orkesten en projecten, dat het op gegeven moment tijd was voor mijn eigen project: Timbazo!

Wat is Timbazo?
Deze wervelende latin-band staat garant voor een uitbundig salsa feest en heerlijke muziek, gespeeld door top musici. De internationale groep verenigt de intensiteit van de Cubaanse timba met jazz en ‘salsa dura’. Timbazo’s eerste album ¡Gracias Joe Cuba! deed de salsa wereld schudden op haar grondvesten: het werd gekozen tot beste salsa-album van het jaar door de internationale pers.

Na talrijke concerten op onder meer North Sea Jazz, main stage na Herbie Hancock en zomerfestivals presenteerde de band het tweede album Rumberos a Montón. De première van het nieuwe album was op De Wereld Draait Door [prime time TV] en er volgde weer een tour door het hele land, op festivals en in venues zoals het Bimhuis en diverse theaters. De 12 koppige band speelde tevens op het Sunfest in Canada. Een ander hoogtepunt was een video shoot door het team van de fameuze video channel Congahead.com, New York.

Presentatie
De band heeft vaak in de thuisbasis Rotterdam opgetreden; op North Sea Jazz in Ahoy, meerdere keren in De Doelen, Podium Grounds en op de Zomercarnaval [Coolsingel]. Tijdens onze release tour heeft Rotterdam dan ook de primeur, omdat ik over de jaren goed contact met deze podia heb kunnen opbouwen.

I want to record a new album with my band Timbazo in Rotterdam.

While the first album was an extended homage to salsa great Joe Cuba, the second album brought a combination of original compositions and versions of 'Cuban Classics' à la Timbazo.

The new album will feature only new compositions and arrangements that have never been released before! This campaign is intended to cover the costs of the studio recordings, the mix and mastering.

What is the project about?
Latin bands outside Cuba, Colombia, Puerto Rico, Venezuela often record adaptations of already known material. Timbazo once started doing that too and it was super fun to do - but we are now taking a different path with an album that contains 100% new music, arranged and composed à la Timbazo! It's a Rotterdam based production - with some extra sessions by guest musicians in Havana and Liechtenstein ;)

How did it all come about?
I had been working for so many years in various orchestras and projects, that at some point it was time for my own project: Timbazo!

What is Timbazo?
This dazzling Latin band guarantees an exuberant salsa party and great music, played by top musicians. The international group unites the intensity of Cuban timba with jazz and 'salsa dura'. Timbazo's first album ¡Gracias Joe Cuba! shook the salsa world: it was chosen as the best salsa album of the year by the international press.

After numerous concerts at North Sea Jazz - main stage after Herbie Hancock and summer festivals, among others, the band presented the second album Rumberos a Montón. The premiere of the new album was on De Wereld Draait Door [prime time TV] and another tour followed throughout the country, at festivals and in venues such as the Bimhuis and various theaters. The 12-piece band also played at Sunfest in Canada. Another highlight was a video shoot by the team of the famous video channel Congahead.com New York.

Presentation
The band has often performed in Rotterdam; at North Sea Jazz in Ahoy, several times at De Doelen, Podium Grounds and at the Zomercarnaval [Coolsingel]. During our release tour Rotterdam has the premiere, because over the years I have been able to build up good contacts with our home town venues.
