Begin 2023 willen we ons album Akh, nit gut! uitbrengen: Jiddische (volks)liederen van Sjostakovitsj, Ullmann en Engel geheel in het Jiddisch en bewerkt voor ons ensemble. Help je ons?

Over Akh, nit gut!

We zijn vijf klassiek geschoolde musici - vier zangers en een pianist - met een passie voor Jiddische muziek. We hebben de afgelopen vier jaar gewerkt aan ons project van Jiddische volksliedbewerkingen door "klassieke" componisten en we zijn klaar om het album op te nemen.

Uitgangspunt is Dmitri Sjostakovitsj' liederencyclus voor sopraan, mezzo en tenor - maar er zit een twist aan: We zingen de liederen met de originele Jiddische teksten! Het album bestaat verder uit Viktor Ullmann's Brezulinka: Drie Jiddische liederen, gecomponeerd in het concentratiekamp Theresienstadt, en liederen van de vader van de Neue Jüdische Schule: Yoel Engel. Engel's liederen zijn voor onze stemmen gearrangeerd door de Britse componist/zanger Tyrone Landau die ook de tenorpartijen zingt.

Over de musici

Mijn naam is Sára Gutvill en ik ben de initiatiefneemster van dit project. Geboren en getogen in een Joodse familie in Boedapest, ben ik klassiek zangeres geworden. Jiddische liederen zijn mijn erfgoed, kunstlied is mijn beroep, vocale kamermuziek is mijn passie - in Akh, nit gut! kan ik deze allemaal met elkaar combineren. Ik ben bevoorrecht dat ik vier voortreffelijke musici heb gevonden om me bij dit project te vergezellen, zodat we recht kunnen doen aan de muziek die we uitvoeren:

- Noors-Russische sopraanElizaveta Agrafenina met een passie voor 20ste eeuwse repertoire;
- Britse tenor en componist Tyrone Landau die voor Akh, nit gut! diverse stukken voor ons ensemble heeft bewerkt;
- befaamde Nederlandse bariton Pierre Mak, die niet alleen als voortreffelijke liedzanger bekend is maar ook als zangpedagoog;
- en de steun en toeverlaat van ons ensemble, onze onvermoeibare pianist Jaap Kooi.

Financiering Akh, nit gut!

We hebben 5000 euro nodig om de directe kosten van de opname en productie te betalen: studiohuur, geluidstechnicus, CD productiekosten, grafisch ontwerp, etc. Dit bedrag dekt geen honoraria voor de musici - als we meer geld ontvangen dan nodig is voor de productie, zal dit extra geld worden verdeeld onder de uitvoerenden.

We hopen dat je - als je dit allemaal hebt gelezen - net zo enthousiast bent over Akh, nit gut! als wij, en we hopen dat je wilt bijdragen aan onze financiering - elk bedrag helpt! Vanzelfsprekend hebben we mooie tegenprestaties als dank voor je steun. We are ready to record and release Akh, nit gut! - our album of Yiddish (folk) songs by D. Shostakovich, V. Ullmann and Y. Engel for four voices. Will you help us?

About Akh, nit gut!

We are five classically trained musicians - four singers and a pianist - with a passion for Yiddish music. We spent the past four years on our project of Yiddish folk song arrangements by "classical" composers and we are ready to record the album.

Point of departure is Dmitri Shostakovich's song cycle "From Jewish folk poetry" for soprano, mezzo and tenor - but there is a twist to it: We sing the songs with the original Yiddish texts! The album further consists of Viktor Ullmann's Brezulinka: Three Yiddish songs composed in the Theresienstadt concentration camp as well as songs by the father of the New Jewish School: Yoel Engel. Engel's songs have been arranged for our voices by British composer / singer Tyrone Landau who also sings the tenor parts.

About the musicians

My name is Sára (Sore) Gutvill and I am the initiator of this project. Born and raised in a Jewish family in Budapest, I became a classical singer and I live in Amsterdam. Yiddish songs are my heritage, art song is my profession, vocal chamber music is my passion - in Akh, nit gut! I can combine all of these. I am privileged to have found four exquisite musicians to join me for this project so that we can do justice to the music we are performing:

- our wonderful Norwegian-Russian soprano Elizaveta Agrafenina with a passion for 20st century repertoire;
- British tenor and composer Tyrone Landau who arranged several of the songs for our ensemble;
- Dutch bariton Pierre Mak, well-known as lied singer as well as vocal pedagogue;
- and our ever reliable and tireless pianist Jaap Kooi.

Funding Akh, nit gut!

We need 5,000 Euros for the actual costs of the recording and production: studio rent, sound engineer, CD production costs, graphic design ... This amount does no cover any fees for the musicians - if we can raise more money than needed for the production, this extra funds will be distributed amongst the performers.
